Progressive house??? Trance is what house music has evolved to not Freestyle. Freestyle has evolved to more of a Breakbeat sound in the past few years. House is house, whether it be trance, euro, disco house. Freestyle is the same, whether it be Miami style or NY style from the late 80s, planet rock beats, trip-hop, electro, or Breakbeat.

rogerem - props, this is what i'm tryin to say... that and i'm not tryin to steal anyone's name, so thanks for realizing there are 2 of us posting on here.

THE EAST COAST HAS NOT PROGRESSED

first off progressive house or any house for that matter is not freestyle in any way imagineable.
second, the east coast, mostly New York, has missed out on so much of the progression of dance music, or at least some people have.
freestyle is always being talked about in here. people talk about the new sound. but you have all gone about it in the wrong way. you are looking towards trance or house. the fact is that freestyle has progressed long ago on the west coast. even texas has. and florida has the closest dance music to freestyle (breakbeat) and even some true freestyle. you guys have heard songs like "I Don't Need Your Love" and "Without Your Love" by Angelina right? Or "Do You Miss Me" by Jocelyn Enriquez? No one from the east coast has tried a sound like that. that is the next step for the east coast in terms of progression of freestyle.
then even with house, you call progressive house Amber, and Da Buzz? that is pop house here on the west coast. i don't know if you have your dance terminology right. i would simply call Amber house, really mainstream house. you should hear some of the progressive house house that gets played in parts of the west coast. it is SO MUCH deeper than music by Amber or Da Buzz. for many people progressive house as we know it out here would give many people headaches (including me) with its hard hitting beats. i agree more with RogerM that breakbeat is much closer, although west coast freestyle often sounds more progressive and even newer than lots of the breakbeat out there, even the west coast freestyle from 6 years ago sounds newer than some of the breakbeats out there.
its sad to see that most of the NYC/northeast area doesn't seem to embrace the TRUE new sound of freestyle that has come out of the west.

The east coast is where it's at buddy! we got all the legends reppin' over here yo!

West Coast:

Jocelyn Enriquez
hey...she's the only artist you got worth mentioning!

East Coast:

Cynthia
Safire
Lisette Melendez
George LaMond
Tony Moran
Nayobe
Lil' Suzy
Johnny O
Lisa Lisa
Cover Girls (Angel)
TKA
plus many more!

that's great and all, but again, that old school sound. how many of those artists have had a NEW song get airplay on radio in the last few years?
Safire
Cynthia
Rockell
Lil Suzy, not much else.

on the west coast, these artists have had airplay in the last few years (I'm talking songs in the last several years, not songs from 1988)-
Angelina
Jocelyn Enriquez (when she was here)
Jossette
Buffy
Spanish Fly
Christina Marie (currently getting airplay in San Diego and central California coast)
Natalise
Malyssa
Once Voice
Damia
Stephanie Fastro
Kenny Freestyle
Action Girls
Daisey
Sharyn Maceren
Timmy T
Alvendia
Carolina
Julissa
Rosalinda
Linda Low
Serrani
Michelle Diaz
Selena
M:G
Adriana
SLK
damn, I could go on.

the only east coast artists that have really had any new or recent music get play in the west is
George Lamond
Safire
Cynthia
Rockell
Lil Suzy
Wiseguy Orchestra
Stephanie Bennett

the artists you mentioned are legends but with the exception of a rare song are stuck on the old school sound, and not as many are getting airplay. my main problem is new york's unwillingness to embrace the progressive sound which already exists. i had a discussion with Johnny Budz on another messageboard about freestyle and KTU playing it, and he said, and i agree that some music doesn't work in NY like it does in the west and much of that is because many of you haven't embraced the west coast sound.

cfreestyler and rogerem, propers. the sound that everyone is talking about pop house, not trance/prog akin to chris lawrence and deep dish. and what you've said about the bay area freestyle scene is right on... in new orleans funky breaks are also very freestyle-ish, but i honestly dont see how anyone can equate house to freestyle

i like the old school sounding freestyle better than new school freestyle and house
