Hmm... I must have a little different view when it comes to new school as opposed to most of you on the east coast. I think here on the wets coast most of the east coast new school pretty much sounds like an old school song that I just maybe never heard before. When I think new school I think more like songs like these (I know some of them are a few years old):
Rosalinda- Give Me All Your Love, Goodbye
Angelina-(All of her songs)
Jocelyn Enriquez- Do You Miss Me, A Little Bit Of Ecstasy and many off her 2nd album
Spanish Fly- Running, Vissions
Timmy T- The One I Adore
Jossette- In A Dream
Stephanie Fastro- When I hear the Laughter
Damia- Do Your Thang
Sharyn Maceren- They Put Me On The Mix
Julissa- I must go On
Adrianna- Until Tomorrow
I think all these songs sound new.
But there are some east coast songs that I also think sound new:
Paradigm/Stefanie Bennnett-Back 4 My Love
Cynthia- If I had the chance (has old school elements but sounds like a new song), Thinking About You (rmx)
Wiseguy Orchestra- Can U Show Me
Caprice- There Goes Your Heart
Rockell- Tears (again has old school elements but sounds like a new song)
Again, a lot of the other stuff I'm hearing just sounds like an old school song that I never heard before. Just my opinion.

Well, the songs you listed are late 90's / 2000 new school. Like I said before, there are "chapters" in the ongoing new school era. I think that "sound" you're speaking of is the mid 90's stuff. Again, the Tazmania stuff uis a great example. It's new school, yet it still contains an old school sound. That is obviously because it hasn't had all the years to transition, as the newest stuff has. I see the new school as being divided by two: 92/93 - 95...Then 96- present...I think 96 is an approximate year in which frestyle took another transition, as to it's overall sound. The sound became "digital" in a sense...sort of techno/euro like....Not all of them sounded like that in 96'.....but some started on that path around that year....That's when that Angelina sound started to become commonplace in the new freestyle coming out....Just my opinion of course...It's not necessarily meant to be a knock on the new school (although you know what I think about new school!!)...just a friendly observation..😛

well just like Anthony, im an "old school fool" too! new school artists cant get the attention or quality production that old school artists got back in the 80's and early 90's. i can count the number of new school artists that i like on one hand! that's sad!

also...most new school artists are only on compilations. and i dont bother with most of those. if im being introduced to a new artist, i want a full length album or some singles so i hear THAT artist only! so i can see what they truly have to offer. and i normally hate most of the new school comps. anywayz so i dont even bother to buy em!

Dam i thought there would be more support here if your old school die hards or new school fans only 20 somthing replies and 141 veiws that not even half.. quit veiwing and and be heard for once..i honstley belive u could care less about this music over 2000 members and they dont have an opionion on shiik we post here
It freaking sad!!!

well ..now u know if freestyle never grows u have know one to blame but yourselfs !!
Laterz 😀

Hey Vinnie, I agree with you there. However, keep in mind that alot of people have responded to similiar posts not too long ago. There is always an "old school v.s. new school" comparison once in awhile. Not everyone likes to rediscuss the issue. I, for one, obviously do!! There are always different points of view. It is a bit sad though. Some people, it seems, would rather put up posts or answer posts that have nothing to even do with music!! 😛

how many times is this gonna be debated............

old school is not dead...actually its the only thing that has kept freestyle alive(if ya wanna call it alive) i mean what new school do u hear on the radio, or what new school is recognized as "freestyle".....so thats just ridiculous to say old school is dead.....don't hate on what made ya.....

new school needs a chance.......

but
it also needs quality...........not a lot of new school has that.....

Old School Is NOT DEAD!!!!

😀 Well I prefer old school, but I am willing to listen to new school. I just buy a cd, and hope I like it lol. I listen to it afew times and after awhile I'm like, hey, I like this song! Now don't get me wrong, there's some new school that I don't like, and will NEVER like. Some new freestyle I can't even find, like the West Coast stuff, but I've listened to Delicious D's radio show. I like some of the West Coast freestyle.

If the song has a classic beat, even alittle bit of a classic beat lol, isn't House/Techno, and has a slower tempo to the song, I'm pretty accepting. I like DJ mixing in a song as long as the DJ doesn't get carried away and ruin the song lol. I love a Latin beat. I like when the singer talks in part of the song (even in Spanish). I especially love guy/girl combo songs like the ones by Cynthia/Johnny O, Denine/Collage (Adam Marano), Dr. Tony Garcia/Lil Suzy. I have to look at my comps for more.

I really enjoyed Willie Valentin's Artistik's "Freestyle Parade 2K1" Part 1 & 2 cd set. I also like Flipzides new cd "Enter Da Flipzide", I LOVE Tazmania comps, I'm glad I bought "Metropolitan presents Viper MegaMix Volume 3" , I am a big Collage/Adam Marano, Denine, Stephanie Marano, DMX (no not the rap group lol) fan. I also have "Viper Millennium Freestyle Dance Party Volume One" produced by Adam Marano for jellybean recordings and I like that comp too. I recently got to hear "Metropolitan Ladies Of Freestyle" Volume 1, and I'm enjoying that one alot.

What I like MOST of all is when I get a comp that has alittle bit of both, some old school, and some new school. My fave comp like that is "This Is Freestyle 3" (1996) by Quality Music (Canada).

So I am a hardcore old school freestyle fan who's become more accepting now of new school, and I'm glad that I gave at least some of the new school music a chance. I hate to miss out on anything lol.

My town is going through a freestyle revival right now with all my fave old school artists coming to my town. I tell ya I am one happy camper! I feel like I'm in Freestyle Heaven (old school freestyle heaven that is lol). Sooooo, I'm alittle bit old, alittle bit new!🙂

just buy a cd and hope u like it???

not me...lol...for me to buy a cd its got to be damn good!!!!

i own very little new school to say the least 🙄

Well those songs i listed are considered old school over in my neck of the woods. Anything 94 and up is considered New School which does include Tazmania. All i'm saying is that over here, there are a lot of songs that came out back in 90, 91, & 92 with planet rock samples and a lot of stuff from back in the 80's has a lot of samples from old school Break Beats and Poppin Beats that i listen to. Drum and Bass samples are used all the time coming from other sources and not just Planet Rock.

Yeah i may listen to Old school 80's and early 90's stuff but i'm for New School all the way. That's just me. i'm tired of hearing the same tracks that are being played by everyone else to the point where i am sick of the song. That's what happened to Freestyle out here in Boston. You listen to a song so much that the song is no longer standable. It becomes played out and everyone hates it after a while. New School is giving Freestyle a second chance at surviving. Like my cousin said, if all we listen to is the Old School without giving New School a chance, then we'll all just be a bunch of reminiscing fools thinking about what ONCE WAS, and what is NOT BEING.

good point djmongo...

Old skool is indeed ALL that, but ya can't listen to that shiznit 4-ever!

Do U realize how many old-skool freestyle compilations are out there, recycling the same 'ol stuff over & over again?!?!? There is some old-skool I can't stand to listen to anymore for this reason...IT'S EVERYWHERE & STILL on the radio CONSTANTLY! (Ex. Stevie B's "Spring Love")

I luv givin' the new stuff a chance, espcially from artists that have "pleazured my latin-pop pang" in the past!

Bottom line.....give it a chance & vary your freestyle up! U might like it!

I like both styles, but i prefer New School...

As one posted before, many songs from Overseas, especially from Germany include the Planetrockbeat.....

Peronally, I find the songs good as well which use some Electro elements...like Al Naafish, Looking for the Perfect Beat, Siberian Nights (Twillight 22) ........

When i hear the new song from the little Girl who is 10 Years old i feel back like the days when Take me in your arms comes out.....

Peter

Hey .. can you people stop using my NAME so much in this THREAD !!!

I am the ORIGINAL 'OLD SCHOOL FOOL' ... see ? LOL!

The Old School will RULE forever !!!

Also, Vinnie ... that comment about the 2000 members. I think that's a fabricated number - there's probably only a few hundred ACTIVE users. Plus, I imagine the posting is down here because of all the DRAMA that has taken place lately - and you'll notice more and more activity on other sites too!

Good point Old School Fool !!! Not too many people are posting often and consistantly. I just have a throw-in point about old school that is often overlooked...It SEEMS that there are only the same old school songs to listen too, however there are many that people are not aware of or dont give a chance. Just a few quick examples...when you think of Voice in Fashion, what pops in your head?? Only in the Night does, right?? Well, what about Give Me Your Love?? That is a slammin song!! Another example..non other than TKA..you know what you think of...but how about Dont Be Afraid?? Thats a bad a@# song too. Here is another..D'Zyre..you think of Forever Amor...how about Games of Love by them?? Great song!! Or Joey Kid...I think Broken Promises gets a back seat, but its a great song as well...I can throw out so many examples, but I think ya get the point..I'm not even gonna go into the artists you never heard of that were really underground...So, only a small portion of quality old school is played...simply because that is all we see or know.....😛

Anthony, the same point you brought up there can be used for the new school. i've heard of Voice in Fashion's songs that no one harldy knows about as well as some artists that no one thought of playin from back in the day because they were underground but you gotta realize the same thing goes on now with the new stuff. So y don't you act like that towards the new stuff. It really ain't bad. You just gotta give it chance.

Ok djmongo1one...Give me some SPECIFIC (cause I'm not wasting money on new school anymore) new school songs, with the artists, that you think are truly worth while...that are passionate, original and wont get played out quickly. I'll do my best to get a listen to them....I DO like Willie's stuff, so you dont have to name any of that....of course LAW and VLA!!....I'll give a few that I actually do like...."Give more one more chance" by JEN...."I'll go on my way" by VYSHALI...."Hold Back the tears" by J. ALAMS..."Where does that leave us" by DE FELLAZ (although I got bored with that one quickly)..."Where were you" by Olga Rivera..."In and out of love" by Trinere....and "You were the one" by TEE...See, I like some!!
😛 .....So, throw out some good suggestions....thanks!
