AND REQUEST FREESTYLE MUSIC.

CALL YOUR LOCAL HOTTEST CLUBS..AND REQUEST YOUR FAVORITE FREESTYLE ARTIST TO PERFORM THERE.

CALL YOUR LOCAL TV STATIONS...WHEN THERE'S A MAJOR SHOW IN YOUR TOWN..AND ADVISE THEM ITS AN EVENT THEY SHOULD COVER.

CALL YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPERS...WHEN THERE'S A MAJOR SHOW IN YOUR TOWN..AND ADVISE THEM ITS AN EVENT THEY SHOULD COVER.

WRITE TO POPULAR KNOWN MAGAZINES WORLDWIDE..AND REQUEST THEM TO DO A STORY ON FREESTYLE AND THE ARTIST THAT SING FREESTYLE.

GET THE WORD OUT...! GIVE THE MEDIA SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT...!

heidee well said, call stations, email stations, write stations, request songs give the title and artist.

hear about a freestyle cd, go to store and go to desk and make these guys know u know it's out and that you would buy it if that had it in your store.

buy the freestyle product you like and make NOISE.

I dont know

to be honest I dont know what it will take or what we need to do to make our music survive. Its really hard cause radio play is so important and we aren't really getting too much of it. I don't understand the thinking of the radio stations... Can You Stand The Rain was a big radio hit... so why don't they think to add another new freestyle song to the playlist? The new TKA song for example...there are alot of new songs but they dont give it a chance even when they see a freestyle song being popular and getting request? I don't get it. and I honestly think the only way that Freestyle will grow is with radio airplay. Thats what makes people go out and buy the albums... then record labels will actually consider investing a little more money in freestyle and making quality freestyle and more innovative freestyle. Thats just what I think.:wave

exactly!

Exactly, Mike..

Your right! If the Record Labels would take a chance and invest more when bringing out a new album or single release..
we would have it made! But they don't ...that's why its upto the fans to hype it up..one way or another!

If the Record Labels would put more MONEY into it..then you would see FREESTYLE albums out on the BIG SHELF TITLED NEW RELEASES...you know the one staring you in DA FACE when you walk into a RECORD STORE?

But no..we have to go TO THE BACK OF THE STORE and SEARCH for our
MUSIC? That's what TYBLESS and I did not to long ago, here in
CHICAGO..and when we asked for TKA FOREVER ALBUM...they told us
IT PROBABLY ISN'T OUT YET! We then pulled a FAST ONE on her and SHOWED HER MY COPY OF FOREVER...! Wanna know what she said?
WHY DON'T U GO BACK TO WHERE U GOT THAT ONE CUZ WE DON'T HAVE IT!

Tybless and our crew were in DISBELIEF! More Pissed Off than Ever!

Wow Heidee!!

The new TKA cd was prominently displayed at Tower records in NE Philly, but the extra copies, and the rest of the freestyle was in the back of the store. Latif's new Ladies of Freestyle cds were there, so was Johnny Budz's new cd, some more East Coast freestyle cds, some West Coast stuff, and some artists cds like Lil Suzy (old cds the new one wasn't out yet) and Cynthia.

I agree with all that everyone said in their posts. The artists need radio airplay, supportive record companys, financial support from their record companies AND from us, their fans, and they need us to ask record stores to carry their cds. Touring the clubs helps in my opinion, coming out with new material does too. Collaborating with each other is a positive step.

And with that my mind just went blank lol!

Peace, love & FREESTYLE,

Let's start at a particular point...

Alright. I think we need more Freestyle on the air. I haven't been keeping up with the new Freestyle at all. I've heard a couple of good songs recently. But, in the mid 90's when Freestyle left the airwaves, I was mostly disappointed with Tazmania and Metropolitan, and others like that. There were a few killer songs - sure.. But for the most part, it wasn't what I wanted to hear.

Now.. I think mid to late 80s and early 90s Freestyle is killer. Some of the early 90s Freestyle could even pass in today's music environment (tempo and everything). But, the quality is in those types of songs. Request those songs when calling local radio stations. Those songs are proven - they work. We all love them. It's unquestionable..

From that point, maybe people will see enough interest in Freestyle songs to produce some new good music.. What we really need is atleast one radio station to play lots of Freestyle and a bit less of everything else. Hot 103 and Hot 97 were perfect back in the day. We need another station with personalities as energetic as theirs were.

We could start by producing a list of numbers and/or email addresses to make our requests. If we can put this on a seperate webpage accessible from the front page of clubfreestyle.com - then we're set. We can say, "Request your favorite Freestyle right here". Maybe even create a form or something.

These requests need to be made to any and every radio station that will play Freestyle in the area. Hopefully, this will create enough noise and interest to spark an idea...

Does anyone agree? Could somebody start posting some emails and phone numbers?

Radio!!!
Also by making some good freestyle and getting it to the club dj's because all that's getting played in the clubs now is sh*t!

Hey. Another thing to keep in mind.. If I remember correctly, Freestyle died out in the mid 90's because most songs being made were too close subject-wise to other songs. There wasn't much originality.

Another thing to keep in mind.. You need youth. You need young kids in clubs to like the music. So... What I'm thinking is...

Stop feeling you need to reinvent the wheel. To those people making new Freestyle music. Don't be afraid to write a song that's already been written 15 years ago. It'll be new to youth now.. It can be close to another song that was already a hit and work out just fine.

I think everybody is worried about making completely new ideas for songs - new scenarios - etcetera.. Do what's already worked. The subjects that sold before will sell now..

If you really want Freestyle to make a serious comeback - let's start working on it instead of just wishing it would happen..

Any more ideas, people?

My solution to this dilema...

I suggest that everyone go to their local lotto machine and bet a dollar. And with that dollar have a dream to start a freestyle label.........Yeah right.....

The reason I say this is this:

People buy what they hear on the radio.
Radio stations play what Major Labels PAY them to play.
Major labels spend alot of money on Payola

Music stores stock what gets played on the radio.
Major labels pay chains to position there product up front.
This marketing tactic is called Price and Positioning.
Major labels spend alot of money on Positioning

If anyone ever has the hope of hearing more freestyle on the radio then there will have to be an INDI Label with deep pockets who is willing to take a chance on freestyle.

No one can tell me, that in the past few years, there haven't been freestyle records that didn't deserve to get radio play or be picked up by major chains. It's a simple matter of having the money to make the money. The day that a Major Label decides to push freestyle and the other Majors follow, you will hear freestyle in every Top 10 count-down across the country.

And since this is highly unlikely............I'll take my chances on Lotto....cause God knows I have a dream.

You know SantanTwins, that is actually a great idea... now all we need is someone to actually win the lottery. LOL I know if I won I would definetly do it. I think we either need the major radio stations to add new freestyle songs on their regular playlist or some how get some slammin new freestyle songs to get played in the clubs since stupid KTU adds clubs songs to their regular playlist like 6 months after they are big in the clubs LOL and on top of that they have the nerve to say "NEW MUSIC FILE" HA!they are too lame. but at least Freestyle would work its way from the club scene to the radio waves along with the regular club songs.

This is my part (Your on it) - Hopefully peeps will make
those calls - tell their friends, etc.

The sound - Change it Just a little (not overboard).

Artists - Rec Lables - Get out on the dam street.
hustle. Give the raido a reason to get Fstyle airplay.

The secret to a sucessful Freestyle future!

Freestyle needs to get to stop wishing to be part of the pop scene and dedicate English and Spanish material for Latino music stations that support Freestyle because it's a Latin genre.it needs to push their records in the dance market and to dance radio, they need to become underground anti pop like bachata, merengue and alternative rock were, not wanting to be part of Nsync's world makes a music popular look at what Nirvana did for the underground low record selling seattle rock scene, look at what Anthony Santos,Oro Solido and Marc Anthony did with Latin salsa, merengue and bachata when those genre were selling low, look at Regional Mexican and Christian music they aren't part of the mainstream and they have developed their huge artists like Selena,Alejandro Fernandez,Limite,Kumbia Kings in regional mexican and look at Christian music's Jaci Velasquez,Vico C,DC Talk,Newsboys and Yolanda Adams selling platinum in Christian music,Freestyle needs to find their own audience and find support in the Christian market like Christian freestyle, find support in the Latin market with Spanish freestyle and english freestyle designed for Latin radio,Freestyle also must find support in the dance music market like techno, euro and house have, freestyle needs to aim to get club djs and the billboard dance chart, freestle needs to try to go international in almost every record store worldwide on outside of America the only way to get any freestyle is almost always as an overpriced import! So only the true die hard fans get to hear the music!Freestyle should aim at airplay on La Mega and Latino fm,as an underground form on HOT 97 and if KTU wants to support it it's ok if not it's ok,look bahata, seatle rock, gangsta rap, merengue, salsa, jazz, reggae,Christian and gospel all sell well without getting any support from mainstream, sure there is a huge Latin explosion in America however years before Chayanne,Luis Miguel,Shakira,Marc Anthony,Ricky Martin and Selena were still going platinum in the Latin market right here in America before the US mainstream ever embraced them! That is when the mainstream embraces you is when you are overly popular and they know you can sell well that is what happened with Latin music, gangsta rap, altenative rock,Christian and gospel and even rock & roll was once an underground music that America's mainstream did not want to support, also Freestyle came from the underground and made noise with America's youth that is why Feestyle once was mainstream!Freestyle needs to target at the youth, old school artists need to try to attract both old and new school fans, freestyle needs to give young artists a chance, instead of compilations with a million no name freestyle artists, freestyle record labels need to try to always sign top acts like Spanish Fly,Voyce,Diamante,Tony Moran,Coro, the artists need to takke a record deal for less money and keeo their music fresh while performing at clubs, freestyle needs to make music videos even cheap ones and if they can afford expensive ones make them and get them on tv not just MTV but go after Univision,Telemundo,Telefutura,Galavision,HBO Latino,BET,VH1,VH1 germany,MTV asia,MTV euriope,HTV.LTV Latin music television and freestyle artists need to be willing to perform in a church one night,at a small club the next,at a huge stadium the next,at a festival the next,in a parking lot,tv studio or wherever they get a chance, let the egos go and do it for the music!Freestyle has to forget mainstream pop and survive like jazz, blues and even polka, heck i bet freestyle outsells polka but it's polka that gets a grammy nomination so frestyle needs to have it's award like merengue did until the Grammy's add a freestyle category!Freestyle has to become a Latino style,an Italian style,an Asian music,a white music,a black American music,Christian music,Canadien music, caribbean music but it needs different types of fresh new artists that give it energy from different backgrounds that keep it real but not too many of them they need to keep the competetion low for stars like George Lamond,Lil Suzy,Latin Nation,Diamantte,Johhny O,TKA and Safire and when these artists start selling alot of records then sign more acts, finally east coast freestyle has to support west coast,Spanish Fly has to become as popular in New York as they are in San Fransico,TKA has to be as big in California as they are in the north east then it can unite, thump, upstairs records, globe starr, timber, fever all need to join forces or they will go out of buisness. That is the only way Freestyle will suceed and overcome!GOD Bless,Omar 🙂

It is surviving in a sense. It has become a classic just as Garage music, Disco and Funk. Disco never died it was regurgitated into house. Commercial/Progressive house if you've listened to the lyrics also is a regurgitated form of freestyle. Sure we have to adapt to take it to the next level. Each generation takes from a past one. Our's is up next. I'm still not excited withthe new stuff coming up there are few that make me want to join my own circle on the floor. Of course it's because it's done by the people who can do it right! (Cynthia /Safire) But some one will do what we did with the early Arther Baker era, liked what we heard and made it ours. Someone has got to get something from freestlye and make it thiers. (This is the part where all the Disney creatures would start singing circle of life)

People buy what they hear on the radio.
Very true! I'll use one example that you'll recognize Enrnesto... we played Susan Santiago "No One Knows" and I got countless calls about where to get the song/album, and I went to music stores on more than one occasion and heard people in the background ask the workers, "Hey do you have that new Susan Santiago song?" (even though the song was a few YEARS old already).

Radio stations play what Major Labels PAY them to play. Major labels spend alot of money on Payola
Since I worked in radio, I can tell you...very true.

Music stores stock what gets played on the radio. Major labels pay chains to position there product up front. This marketing tactic is called Price and Positioning. Major labels spend alot of money on Positioning
True, true.

No one can tell me, that in the past few years, there haven't been freestyle records
that didn't deserve to get radio play or be picked up by major chains.
You're right, I can count many that are more deserving of a lot of the trance and house and other stuff.

Hopefully peeps will make those calls - tell their friends, etc.
The sound - Change it Just a little (not overboard).
Artists - Rec Lables - Get out on the dam street.

Yup, without the money or huge label backing, the people have to make the difference for now. The sound should definitely change, but not into something like straight up trance. And artists, labels, yes promote as much as you can.

Hey I have an idea to add. I've been thinking about doing something like this in California. It won't lead to the resurgence of freestyle alone, but it would be fun...
We talk a lot about exposure. Well radio isn't giving it to the people. Most club DJ's aren't giving it to the people (it's much worse outside of New York). So why don't we force at least some people to listen to it? Some music has started from the streets and the underground. Back when I was going to college at Cal, I saw something...these guys on a busy street corner with a boombox playing music some old hip hop and dance music and dancing to it. A big crowd gathers around. Even the hippies and punks gathered around to watch, even though they didn't listen to the music on a normal basis, but they got exposed to it.
Why don't we do this except we have a mighty big boombox or something bigger and play FREESTYLE. We can have some people who can breakdance or something. Since there are so many of you in New York and you always hang out, how about trying this? You could have enough people alone from CF to make it look big. But then other people will gather around to see it. Go to a BUSY street corner or somewhere busy and MAKE A SCENE. Go freakin' nuts! What do you think?

OK how's this for sh@%s and giggles, a new dance form that sweeps the clubs and athe schools that is danced to only freestyle and you have to dress with this cool new gear to go with it🙄
