New Singer? Tamia, New Song Stranger in my House-

Hey Freestylers,

Has anyone up there/around the globe heard the Artist named TAMIA?

Her song "Stranger in My House" is being played here (in Miami) on the radio station Y-100. Just today Power96 played a VERY SMALL portion on the 5 o'clock mix.

You know POWER96, always procrastinators when it comes to FreeStyle....I guess this song can be considered FreeStyle..

Anyway, check it out.

Tamia is far from being a new artist...Quincy Jones broke her debut about 6 years ago...

"STRANGER IN MY HOUSE" is an R&B slow jam, unless you heard a Freestyleish remix...But damn you just gotta love her video!!!

Nothin like looking at a wet, scantily-clad beautiful woman for about 4 minutes!!!🙂

Well, well, well. Dude I had no Idea she's been around...goes to show how you DO learn something new every day.

The CD has about 4 versions. #1 is slow, then there are other club mixes, radio mixes, and hiphop mix.

I have not seen the video.

Tamia's been around for a while. When KTU first started to play the song, I posted here that I was sure it would be a big hit. In this week's Billboard magazine, the song's at #11 on the Hot 100. It was #10 last week. 😎

This song is already HUGE in NY and will be HUGE throughout the US. This will be a big summer jam.

What freestyle versions are you guys talking about !? My boy Mike Rizzo did a remix (the version KTU plays) and Thunderpuss (my favorite version of this song) and Hex Hextor did remixes. There's also the original R&B version...but i haven't heard a freestyle version.

I heard the song on the radio here in Buffalo, It def is R&B....I don't really care for it though. She sounds like a spinoff of Toni Braxton, thats who I thought it was when I first heard it.

This song is not Freestyle. I have the Hex Hector and Thunderpuss mixes as well as the R&B. It's a great song, but a far far cry from Freestyle, unless there is a bootleg mix out there, then I would love to hear it.
They are playing it here on Energy 92.7/5 in Chicago as well as the new Fragma single "Everytime you need me", Let me love you-Dabuzz, etc etc, unfortunately no Freestyle.

Maybe IT'S NOT FREESTYLE,,,but you gotta admit, the song rocks.

Anyway, my brother heard it here in Miami on the radio station Y-100. He purchased the CD Single at Specs Music. The cover; it's her wearing like a dark brown skimpy alfit and she looks as if she's sweaty. There are 9 songs on the CD.

From my memory I can tell you this.....
The first one is slow.
The second is a club mix or something
There is a hiphop mix in one of them
#6 is almost acapella, #9 for sure is acapella....THAT'S WHERE HER VOCALS HIT MAJORLY HIGH AND LONG.

I personally thought it was Nayobe or far out country Lyanne Rhymes...Nevertheless, I GOT GOOSEBUMPS WHEN I HEARD THE LYRICS.

Then I called Jammin Johnny and mentioned it to him (left vmail message on Thursday, 4/12).

Needless to say, just yesterday Wednesday, April 18th I heard a 3 minute mix on the 5 o'clock mix and then today on the 12 noon mix they played a club mix or something.

Also, AGAIN, POWER96 WAS NOT IN LINK WITH THE NEW MUSIC/SONG.....whatever you want to call it.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING MR. CURY change is outlook towards playing new/music that WILL PLEASE THE LISTENERS.

Freestyle vet....you really can't kill Kidd Curry for not playing new dance music. Throughout the years, he has played so much dance music that other stations either wouldn't touch, or they would play it 4 months later. He's got more 'balls' than most Program directors when it comes to breaking new music and he's one of the most successful PD's in the biz.

Also, just curious, what new freestyle songs do you think Power 96 should be playing right now ?

Hey Johnny:

The last time Power96 mixed a NEW freestyle song was on a Saturday Mid-day mix (by Jammin Johnny- KING OF FREESTYLE) as we call him here.

The song was by a male performer, can't even recall the name. Needless to say, that was the 1 and only time.

However, Cynthia (If I had the Chance) is played frequently, as well as my girl Judy, Noel -Silent Morning, The question.

Johnny's method/style is about 15 minutes of Freestyle, then 20 of trance, sometimes even 45 minutes.

Although, he does play the recent Trance, it's starting to get old.

The thing is that, whatever you hear during the regular hours, he plays it during the mix....which leaves no room for enjoying the mix....

My believe, and I'm sure of many others, is that "A MIX" is exclusively for songs not played often. However, Kid's RULE is "YOU PLAY WHAT THE LISTENERS ARE ASKING FOR"...bull-****.

Well, I hardly believe a/the listener wants to hear the SAME SONG EVERY 1:15 MINUTES.

As for someone who works in an office, who has a radio next to their ear (practically), THIS GETS BORINGGGGGGGG.

So, I end up changing the dial after 1:00 pm when the mix is over, and return at 2:00 pm to listen to DJ Laz...He cracks up with people's issues/calls...he is a trip.

Again, NEW SONG? PLLLLLLLLEEEASE!*&@#$@?

Hey Vet, hope u had a great weekend also. I'm very familiar with the format at Power 96 and the mixshows. I use to live down there,plus I listen to them on the internet nowadays, and I talk to some of the dj's and friends of mine that live down there.

Well, radio mixshows aren't meant for unknown songs to be played. We still have to play the radio friendly songs...but a mixshow does give ya the oppurtunity to bust out a new unknown song, or a lesser known/not as played out song. But if I play a brand new song that nobody has heard yet, alot of people will turn the dial. Believe me they do. Thats why I'll follow it up with a popular song, so I don't lose alot of peoples interest.

But ya still gotta play the hits. Radio is about playing the hits. Especially a noon mixshow. What I do alot during my mixshows, is play different versions of a 'hit'. For instance, last week I played "Spring Love' but I played the rarely heard Dub version.

A saturday night 3am mixshow is different. Different format. But the afternoon mixshows still gotta be friendly.

But i definitely hear what you're saying, nor do i disagree with your points. But I'm just trying to explain how radio works...especially from the mixshow side, since thats what i do hear on KTU in NYC 😀
