damnn as much as we all want the old freestyle sound back, its not going to happen...radio wont play it...times have changed...i like the new style, cynthia's "thinking about you" has to be one of the best albums ever, the remake of can you stand the rain was insanely hot..this new one is hot, i dont think its right that an established artist in freestyle like cynthia release a new song for fans and have people trash it..its a good song..I can understand why people are upset that its not the old school sound just like we were upset that TKA forever was not old school either, first time i heard forever iI was pissed but after hearing 2 or 3 times and opening my mind i feel it was one of the best albums of the year probably the last 5 years...dont knocklit completely im sure it will grow on most of us..i think the song is hot and cant wait for a new album!!!

Problem is...it's NOT a new song. For her it is but it's a REMAKE.

After all the hyping of the NEW sound...they do a song that's been done already.

Besides...I'm not trashin the song...just the idea that they chose to REDO a song that's been done already.

Alll these guys have old influences. So pretty much they lose creativity. They live in the past. And quite frankly, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks."
 
For those of us who don't live in NYC and haven't yet had a chance to hear the song, can someone please explain the difference between freestyle and "urban dance" (which is what I've heard the new song described as)?

Like I said, I have yet to hear the song, but it's Cynthia, how bad can it be? Everything she has ever done has been fabulous!
 
Urban dance = freestyle/hip hop or something like that.

I don't think the track is freestyle although I will say that I have not heard the whole thing. I did listen to the clip that was posted up and the sound is a bit intriguing.

Grrrr...I'm gonna leave this one alone. Only because I have a few compilations titled, respectively, "Latin Hip-Hop" with tracks from Noel, Lisette Melendez, Shannon, Cyre, Sandee, Lisa Lisa & a few others and THAT'S where the confusion is.......cus it's Freestyle. Krystal, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about! :nah

Ok, I didn't hear the song, so I can't comment on whether or not it's better/worse than the original.

I can say that I have the Freestyle Parade 2k1 cds, and LOVE Marisol's version.

What will be interesting will be KTU's support of this song.......

KTU did play "If I Had The Chance" back when it was released.

Cynthia's last song on KTU was "Can You Stand The Rain" with Safire. That song got mad support, and by coincidence (yeah, right) KTU was throwing a show where both Safire and Cynthia were performing. After the show, KTU dropped that song from their playlist.

Beatstock is on the way, and Cynthia is a performer at the show. Are they gonna hype this song, and drop it after the Beastock shows???? We'll see.


As for it being a remake/sample......oh well. It happens all the time. Look at how many covers Rockell did. Even Marisol, with her song "Begining Of The End" has a sample of "IOU" by Freeze.

I dont have the real answer for this one, But from what I gather its not freestyle. Its a New music with freestyle elements mixed with other flavors like hip hop and r&b. I could be wrong but thats what I think. It Could help freestyle, then again it could hurt in too, but the truth is , if its freestyle..it should be called freestyle. We already have enough confusion with freestyle as it is, and finally ....its starting to become reconized as dance music So to change the name now would be devistating. Im curiouse too, and really want to hear this "new sound". But I'LL tell you one thing: if its not aimed (targrted) for todays youth.....This music will die as fast as it was born.

The same goes with freestyle.....Any one trying to impress the 1st generation of freestyle fans can forget about it. There to hard to please and cant except change. Todays youth is the only chance for freestyle to flourish. They should be the focus of future freestyle releases, cause the past will show you....New school is simply taboo to most old schoolers. FACT NOT OPPINION.

I agree, everyone does sample or redo other songs, since music was invented!LOL, I love CYNTHIA and I hope the radio does keep pumping her song after BEATSTOCK.
 
I think the whole concept of urban dance if being taken out of context. The Name Freestyle has given main stream radio a bad taste, so the industry avoids it like the plague. So if giving it a chance under a new name with a slightly different sound will help it get back to main stream what is the harm. JMO..!!
