I have to disagree...its NOTHING like KTU 9 years ago. Not by a long shot.

James what I meant is that they play alot of dance music, oldies, freestyle..

and KTU is alllllllll playing top 40.....

so um yeah they are... all the songs I heard on KTU 9 years ago are being played on Mix102.7

SOme are the mixes on saturday nite on wnew are some of the best mixes i heard on the radio in years.

No disresprect to James Anthony....but Mix 102.7 is better. James...you are about one of the only good things about KTU anymore, so I mean that as a compliment, but unfortunately, the rest of the time you and Judy are not on, they are playing crap on KTU.

I just hope Mix 102.7 keeps with this format

I agree, lately KTU sounds like crap (more than usual). Especially the classic showcase. I thought Al Bandero would be good but he's boring and they play all the wrong records. This week he played "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder and a few weeks ago I heard "Makin' It" by the guy from the Dr. Pepper commercial in the 70's! LOL! During the day, all you hear are the same records over and over with a few scraps thrown in for those of us who want to hear the classics. And did Prince die or something? They play his records as if "Purple Rain" just hit theaters yesterday. Mix 102.7 plays great music. Especially the Saturday night mix show. I think they are going to crush KTU.

I respect everyone's opinion here, and I'm not trying to put anyone's thoughts down, I just find it incredibly hypocritical how some people (and NOBODY SPECIFIC, just people in general) talk and talk and talk on these boards how "KTU sucks, they play the same freestyle songs over and over and don't do this and don't play that"...then they have an orgasm because down the radio dial they're playing Lisa Lisa and Expose and OH MY GOD "Silent Morning"!. Hate to break it to everyone, but its the SAME MUSIC. The only difference Mix is going after the older part of KTU's demograph by playing 70% classics and the rest as pop/AC recurrents and currents (Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, Madonna, etc..). There is no element of new dance music, r&b or anything of the sort- nor is there intended to be. If you want the official difference between Mix and KTU, from an industry standpoint from somebody who works in radio- there it is.

And none of what I say is said out of defense for my station affiliation and what I do for the dance music industry. As far as I'm concerned there could be 20 other Mix-type stations and it wouldn't affect A) the quality of the work I put forth on the air and B) the incredible listener response I receive in my mailbox on a daily basis from listeners.

Whatever you are listening to, enjoy the music.

James ;

Keep doing your thing , You have my support no matter what station u spin @ whether It be KTU or Tim Buck too.... I wish I had a commercial Dance station in My area Kiss 95.7fm is gradually going in the other direction. On Ocassion I Hear Johhny Budz on Friday and Saturday Night Dance Party.

Its tuff getting my Music on But I keep trying trying..... LOL

Ok here is my take on KTU and Mix 102.7. I listen to both stations although I have been listening to Mix 102.7 more these days. I love the fact that they play a lot of the classics and no rap. And Im also glad that there is now another station in NYC playing freestyle. James, I think you are great but I have to disagree with you on one thing you said...102.7 has been playing new R&B..they have been playing I Dont Wanna Know by Mario Winans, Confessions by Usher, and Baby It's You by Jojo. To me, the main difference btwn the 2 stations is that so far 102.7 doesnt play new dance music like songs by Kim Sozzi, Reina, and Lucas Prata which KTU does. As for the freestyle, I feel that both stations play the same classics such as the ones James mentioned. KTU only plays some of the rare freestyle during the Sunday night Free-For-All. And who knows, maybe 102.7 will add some of those rare classics in time. Listen, both stations get somewhat reptitive...that's the nature of the radio business. I listen to Z100 too (to hear some songs I like that I cannot hear on either kTU or Mix 102.7) and they also get repetitive. But I do think the New Mix 102.7 is a welcome addition to NYC radio. However, I havent given up on KTU either because of the fact that they play freestyle and new dance music. And James...keep doing your thing!

Same Old Same Old

MIX 102.7 is program by Frankie Blue who program KTU till he left last year Now He's Coming After KTU(which he program and created)and he said he ain't i don't buy it.plus he hire Some jocks Who DJ on KTU.Come on it's just the same Old same Old.....plus i listen to XM Satelite, which Don't have NO Freestyle ,But Plays Better Stuff than Both Combine and No Commicals...and i've been listening to NY Radio since Early 70's,and in NO Way it is anyway near Where it was back in the 70's/80's....too much Talk, and commicals..and when they Play there mixes it's 25 mins then 10 mins of Commicals...back then it was 60 min mix a few Commicals and back to the mix.......But thats Why we Have Internet Radio and Satelite..some u have to payed but its worth it.
But no matter what ...Nothing gonna Change....its big time bussiness in CONTROL F-UP All

And there lies the problem. Now here's a non-professional view. Unfortunately no one in the radio business ever takes into account the listener. It's always their "professional view". I find it odd that even the most loyal fan of KTU will tell you that there biggest problem is that they play the same songs over and over again yet their opinions are cast aside as "uninformed". From what I've read, KTU actively courts the adult audience because that's what advertisers want. I've seen KTU employees post things like that on several message boards as an excuse as to why they don't play more new dance music. Fine. Then why not play a bigger variety of classics and play the newer songs less? This is the formula they use at Kiss and at Lite-FM and they are number one and number two in the ratings. KTU is like #13. They are behind Lite, Kiss, Hot 97, Power 105, WCBS, WBLS, Mega, and Z100. And now Mix 102.7 is catching up. That ought to tell you something. But you radio professionals know better. The problem with KTU is that they play the same 5 new dance songs a billion times and the same classics like "Night Fever" a billion times. There's a huge collection of classics out there that you never hear on KTU. When I listen to KTU, it won't be five minutes before I hear the same Deborah Cox record or the latest release from Robbins or Ultra that sounds just like the last release from Robbins or Ultra. I can turn off KTU for a year, and when I come back, it would sound exactly as I left it. You don't feel like you are missing anything so you change the dial. At Mix 102.7, you can listen to it for hours and not hear the same record twice. You can keep it on in the office all day long. You hear a wider selection of classics, which as an adult, I want to hear. Yesterday Mix 102.7 played the 16 minute version of "Romeo & Juliet" at 4pm in the afternoon! That's what I'm talking about! I could care less about the latest trance record that's breaking in some Jersey club or the latest rap hit that KTU is usually late in playing anyway. Play that garbage at night when the kiddies are listening.

Nice response- youre right!!

KTU is trying to be 3 different formats- theyre TRYING to cater to dance fans but never add the right records that are making noise all over the world amongst the dance community. Theyre also trying to be urban by adding rap records and now theyre trying to hold on to the older demographic that Frankie Blue/ WNEW is taking away...

Pick a damn format and master it! Notice how many 'dance classics' KTU plays now a days during an hour? Mix 102.7 got them shook.

Before WNEW, KTU was adding alot of new dance songs. But now that WNEW is here, its back the same old Donna Summer records...

What I would like WNEW to do is add more 80's/90's dance records..even some classic House vocals... Theyd cover the classics well then... They do so in their mix it up weekends...

KTU should go new dance - Give new dance/freestyle music a chance already... not a dance remix of a Christina Milian record

I MISS HOT 103!! =(

First of all Ktu is never going to be a pure dance station. Jeff Z the program director and sky told me that directly a a buunch of times the times i have spoken and met with them. If you want real dance music you music go to Sirious Satellite Radio. They Have a dance hits channel called The Beat playing the latest dance hits from the US and around the world and some classic freestyle. You also got the Remix 62 Playing nothing but remixings from DJS like Mike Courdes, Mickey Garcia, Pete TOng, Norty COrtto,Ray Roc, Louie Devito and they do play freestyle in there cause they have an open dance format. They got a disco station called Strobe that occassionally throws in a early freestyle song like Shannon and they have to other dance stations as well. All commercial free.
