Re: Nothing But The Truth

I applaud the grit of 'true' freestyle fans. Fans who long for the Glory Days of yester-year to simply reappear in an age where a record of any genre, done just 2 years ago, gets titled old school!
We here at CF must be realistic. Don't get it twisted, I post here mainly because I am the mouthpiece of TKA,etc. But I have grown to LOVE most of the members here at this site. We actually have developed friendships here that transcend the music. So as your friend I have to be totally honest with you. Freestyle as you know it, is dead. Not dead in the sense of it doesn't exist. No. But dead in pop culture terms. We can't even pack a club to make sure our own artist eat, period. So as artist, what are we left to do? We can't live a freestyle lifestyle and still pay the rent, so your best artist won't be recording this music. Sure as an underground circuit, as long as many of you are alive. This form of music will always exist(hence, there's hope). :realsad

Ty Bless I couldn't have said it any better myself (I made similar comments in my "Is Freestyle Officially Dead?" thread). I think you hit the nail on the head...BUT: I think change/evolution has done more to hurt Freestyle than to help it. The Old School sound is what a lot of the fans crave - that is where most of the quality exists in Freestyle - Before the Planet Rock & New School/Progressive eras. Look at the Santana Twins - They are producing quality new Freestyle while remaining faithful to the Old School sound. Their songs are incredible and should be the standard that the new artists and producers should strvie to achieve. They may call their music "The New Old School", I call it "Freestyle - The way it should be!"

WE HAVE TO CHANGE IN ORDER TO SURVIVE. FACTS IS FACTS. ROCK AND RAP DID IT, WHY CANT FREESTYLE? LETS NOT BE SELFISH AND LET IT GROW, NOT "DIE" BY FORCING IT TO KEEP ITS DATED SOUND.

If we dont change, were going to find our favorite artists playing at BAZAARS and BINGO games like the idols of the 50's and 60's. they didnt change thier sound and look at them now!

Well, at least they won't have their lives threatened by the elderly who are in the hall playing bingo!

And like I said - at least they won't have their live threatened by the elderly, unless of course you go off in a fit of rage because TKA forget to sing "DON'T BE AFRAID" due to the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease...LOL!

IT TOOK TWO AND A HALF YEARS FOR YOU TO AGREE WITH MY EVOLUTION CONCEPT .PUT THE ROSARY BEADS IN THE CASKET AND LETS GO ..THEIR IS A WORLD OUT THERE THAT AWAITS OUR TALENTS FAN OR PERFORMER. THE SOUND PEOPLE CRAVE IS THE SOUND OF A WINNER .WE HAVE BEEN LOSING FOR FAR TOO LONG ITS TIME TO WIN ......
CHICAGO MADE HISTORY WITH JORDAN BUT THATS JUST A MEMORY NOW, DESTROY AND REBUILD.THOSE TIMES CAN NEVER COME BACK. LETS LIVE FOR TODAY ....

Very good points. Now is the time to move forward with new concepts in this genre. Being diverse and not sticking with the same content. I think artists should dare to explore. K7, are you saying it's time to go where no freestyle artists have gone before. Great words brotha, and most commendable. Lead the way!!!

I dont understand why it is so hard for people to accept that freestyle needs to evolve in order to reach a new generation of fans. The past is over and freestyle needs a "makeover" a fresh new sound to attract attention and recognition. People are saying freestyle needs a new sound etc. but when artists like TKA change there sound and style in order to reach more fans people jump down their throats and criticize them for not staying true to the "freestyle sound". I am in complete support of an evolution of freestyle. You either continue to move forward or get left behind, there is no middle ground. I say move forward, if the artists are willing to change their sound the fans should be just as willing to accept the change.

you cant evolve it!!! if u change it it will be a diffrent form of music...not freestyle any more...lets just accept the it...and keep our cds

I just had to post after reading Tybless`s post.I agree with him so much its scary.I also have to say that I dont agree with Rhoq`s post about the Santana Twins.(much respect to Rhoq and The Twins)Although they make Great retro/freestyle music...thats just what it is..already been done, nothing new, same old subject matter same familar chord progressions and breaks. They do a fantastic job at it though. But seriously the only way u can do something old is to use those elements to create something new.Its the same reason why Chevy dosent make the 57 chevy or the 72 nova anymore.Much love to all u folks.

But it all goes back to the old sentiment that Freestyle can only go through minimal changes before it isn't Freestyle any longer...

in order to maintain the sound, we have to sacfrice something!

Kenny - although your statement is a contradiction, I think I understand what you are trying to say...

well, sound can mean different things. the beat, the lyrics or the style (love theme) are some things that need to be changed. we can change all of it or just change one or 2 things in order to still help identify it with "freestyle".
