Tough issue.
Sometimes people forget what it costs to make a song and how much it costs to protect it legally. Singles are usually to promote an artist and also promote an album. Singles cost the same amount in duplication and marketing costs as album would. Singles don't make much money. Albums do. As I mentioned also, Albums are a compilation of their work within a period of time. It is like a book. Does anyone buy a chapter of a book?
Downloading that can be used properly if the artist chooses to have their music to be downloaded. If you don't have permission and download it, it is taking without asking, which is stealing. What ever excuses you use to the tool, pls. be honest about it.
As well, if people understand the copyright laws, the owner has rights to how ever they choose to have their product in the publics eye whether to sell it or have it for downloads for a price or free. What ever excuses you have, bottom line, legally it is taking w/o asking.
If people want to hear what an album sounds like, write to record company ask for a sampler CD or tape which has edited songs. Or better yet, go to record store and ask them to play it. And if there are no copies of that song in your area, make your voice heard by telling the stores, many of them can order for you and also contact record companies.
I don't download music. I am like Enigma for I will spend what is necessary for my music or video.
People who are complaining about US prices, pls. visit Japan. CD;s are near 30 bucks, dvd around 60.
If people need reasons to buy music, pls. use the pen and paper or a call or type by email. That is the only way your voice will be heard and respected.
Also, what if the artist says pls. don't download my music, how many would honor their wish? Madonna had done so, and for that she gets a web site hacked. How Spiteful is that?
