Let's think about this question...I don't mean is Freestyle dead in the literal sense, because if it was you wouldn't be here right now reading this thread. The question is meant more along the lines of Freestyle gaining support on mainstream radio and undoing the damage done to our music over the last decade by a slew of god awful, wanna be Freestyle recordings (the reason why radio shunned us in the first place). Most of the new Freestyle being released today may be good enough to satisfy the Freestyle fans who crave new music, but it is still being overlooked by radio and major labels...

I honestly don't see Freestyle undoing it's stigma of being the "bastard child of dance" music. I know I will get blasted by some of the members that have a hard on for me - that's ok. It is expected...

Let's face it - Freestyle will never get back up off of it's feet. It is destined to remain underground for the remainder of it's life...

I said this so many times...but I'm saying it AGAIN lol...Freestyle is a SUB genre...rap, rock, etc are genres.....Freestyle is a SUB genre, just like trance and house...it cannot be tweaked too much without becoming something else. Many fans do not want it to become something else...that's the reason for "the hold up"! LOL...

Anthony is correct...I have said it a countless number of time in the past as well...There is only so much evolution Freestyle music can go through before it isn't Freestykle any longer!!!

Don't blame the fans, because from what I have seen, most fans enjoy the Old School sounds and wish the music still sounded that way!

I hope you are wrong when you said F/S will never get off the ground.

I would hate to think so. But, Baby, I won't rag on you...you speak from the heart and share your knowledge. And for that you should not be knocked down.

Rhoq,

I will say "NO". Freestyle music just became an underground music since around the beginning of the 90's (1992/1993). Too bad, but it's a fact.

It was already underground in the 80's. in 92-93.....it just faded away. not even underground because NO CLUB WOULD TOUCH IT ANYMORE.

perhaps if somehting of good quality was released it MIGHT have a chance...but even then i doubt it because to have a major hit u usually need a major label to back a song up..and no major label is gonna distribute freestyle.

I think Robins is a very good label that does a great job promoting its talent. So I look forward to teh enxt single from tehm..being that they dont put out trash like other labels are doing.

It can, BUT IT NEEDS A MAJOR FACE LIFT!!

RAP changed, why cant "freestyle"?

because "fans" are holding it back from progressing!

ya i agree, honestly I really dont like new school freestyle its not all bad but its not really my favorite. I think freestyle was better with the old school touch.Freestyle is real 80's and that was 20 years ago. but times change and freestyle is so old. So many times I tell people I like freestyle and they say "I hate freestyle, its to old."I really dont think new school freestyle doesent do too much for people, sorry, but, it really dosent do much for me either.I geuss I'd say I'm stuck in the eightes.:crap

As long as radio stations keep playing it, freestyle will never die..and there is a lot of freestyle songs that i have that never get and play on the radio, but if they did, freestyle would be as strong as it was in the 80's. Also, we need a whole bunch of freestyle artists to put out stuff at the same time in order to let people know they mean business...case in point: Cynthia came back with a vengeance in the spring of 98 with "If I Had The Chance", then Collage/Rockell with "Can't We Try", but after that...nothing else until "I Never Said" in the fall of 99. There was nothing consistent after those hits, unfortunately, and that gives off the idea that they're not serious. While i give props to KTU for bringing it back, they need to take a chance and dip into the unreleased freestyle tracks instead of just regulating it to when Judy Torres is on. "I'll Be Loving You" by Collage made it big in 96, but was released in 93!!! So the radio stations need to show some more cojones and give us what we want

FREESTYLE NEVER DIED, IT JUST GOT PUSHED UNDER THE CARPET, AND I WILL BE THE FIRST TO ADMITT THERE WAS A LOT OF GARBAGE THAT CAME OUT AFTER 92, BUT THERE WERE ALSO A LOT OF POTENTIAL SINGLES THAT RADIO COULD OF PLAYED..IT CAN COME BACK BIG IF, IT WAS DONE THE WAY IT WAS YEARS AGO...WITH PASSION

You cant update freestyle these days. change is good for freestyle. thing is, the change im seeing in it so far....im not really liking it. I feel it is going to end up beaing some house/trance music and we are the only one s that are gonna praise it as freestyle music. Also, im not with the whole "keeping it real" crap, this is a new generation so we should be looking forward to different things. Plus, no ones going to be digging early 80's 90's music but us, so where are independent labels gonna get the dough to produce stuff that wont sell? Im afraid we are faced with a big problem here.

in order for freestyle to make a full impact..it needs new artist with original tracks and lyrics.no more remakes..remixes..and definetly no more freestyle songs with the planet rock back beat!!!if N sync and Britany spears can succeed then I dont see how a new freestyle act cant capture the current "poP" audience to freestyle!!

That will take a miracle my man! God knows freestyle has seen many god-awful acts (about 99.9%) to come out within the last decade! All these new acts who can't sing for shyt, aren't creative or different in any way, make it hard for good, trained, talented singers (Cynthia, Safire, G.L., etc.) to get the shine they deserve.
