Just curious what you guys think about the new Ciara record 1,2 Step?
It's freestyle inspired and was just curious on your feedback with the record.

love it. The entire album is great. After listening to
the tune a few times I said "wow, this IS a freestyle tune"!
Good ears. It's the kick drum that really makes it sing....

Hot!

It's R&B meets old school electro Freestyle. I think it's too hot. And it's rushing it's way up the charts. It's number 24 on the Billboard Top 40 this week and was number 42 last week. I teach dance and all the kids love it and have no idea where the influence of that beat comes from. I don't think anyone would say that it was strictly Freestyle but it goes to show that our genre of music can be updated and make its way into 2004. Even if it is through the back door, in a sense. I love the song and Eminem's "Just Lose It" too. Both songs have been discussed on these boards for their influence.

yup, the track is so hot that there's already been previous threads about it here. im lovin it & hope to hear it more on mainstream radio stations. its awesome that people are getting hooked on that sort of sound even if they dont realize its freestyle-inspired.

actually it's a form of "CRUNK R&B" that's wut they're calling it now. there' should be so "CRUNK FREESTYLE" records out...but that Ciara record is hot been jammin to it for about 2 months now!!! HOT HOT HOT!!

the record to me emphasizes generally on early 80's electro/be bop records. you get like this Shannon meets Afrika sound. now why can't more freestyle records be this this one....omigoodness i actually can hear a producer sampling off of this record soon! :nono

Its hot! It has that freestyle appeal ot it! Real Good Stuff ......PROGRESSIVE, Out with the old and in with the new! I think I hear a movement.................

mmmmm, have to disagree, i dont like the fact that they are incorperating on a sound weve been doing for decades and getting no credit for. The same with M&M and his new track, hes gonna diss MOBY and say no one listens to tecno and then do a song that contradicts himself.

If we were given credit for our stuff, I wouldnt mind. But its like the unpopular kid in school who has a great idea and no one listens, then the popular kid says the same thing and every one listens. OMO.

although the song is hot....your statement is true and unfortunate. i mean missy's name is on it so that helps a lot. you get somebody like cynthia to release that...i bet it would go nowhere... maybe rockell...

I agree and disagree with some of the previous statements. I do not think people are associating the sound with Freestyle or any of the achievements of our community's artists and producers. I disagree though that if Rockell or Cynthia released something that hot that it would go nowhere. Let 'em give it a shot! I haven't heard anything all THAT innovative in our community in awhile and part of me likes it that way. There's that old school sound that I love in Freestyle. At the same time, progress and growth are not unwelcome. What this song may be doing is opening a back door to our community again. We need some hot songs of our own that are innovative and somewhat relevant to the mainstream to help bring it all about. I've read it in previous threads but it's true... THE TIME IS NOW!!!! We got to take advantage. I'm working on my stuff now and I'm hoping to ride a wave in. 🙂 Let's get this started!

it's funnny the statement of records liek this opening up doors again and that is certainly true....i finally heard the song on the radio for the first time and power 105.1 played it. i must say it was nice to finally hear it on tha radio and exciting. the songs is hot and the production is amazing. jazze pha did a good job on that one. so freestyle has a chance no matter what but honestly more than anything is that i've been trying to emphasize on the fact that we need more fresh sounds records. and for some reason it's like producers in the freestyle scene are more worried in catering to "freestyle" fans...whcih isn't a bad thing but there's a whole new audience out there. i mean r&B has progressed so much and it still keepin strong i mean it's crazy. i always knew reggae would be big someday and it's boomin i mmean look reggaeton is blastin although its been around for years! i just think progression is the key and attracting a whole new audience is something Freestye definitely needs!

....it's time for some fresh and new sound....SO WHERE IS IT? :dj

I totally feel where your coming from...I think Freestyle production should always remain a part of freestyle, and the original freestyle sound and vibe should never be left behind and never forgotten yet maintained, but at the same time it should ALSO evolve beyond its means, because from what I see today... The popular trend of music for the majority of the music fans (which mostly are the youth) consist of R&B, Hip Hop and so forth... So you mix some old school elements of freestyle with a sprinkle of R&B flava to the freestyle sound, mix it up and what do you got? You'll get what's playing in the radio today, we cannot point our fingers at these R&B/Hip Hop artists and blame them for thier recognition with incorporating freestyle elements, I think the producers must take action and take part of the new world. Time have changed, and freestyle use to have its innocence, but most listeners moved on, and the ones that stay true to freestyle are disappointed at the new school freestyle because it seems that the new schoolers are trying to remake something that was once golden but now silent and shut! Bottom Line, Freestyle is Freestyle, but we should ALSO incorporate new styles as well. The old way is not working, and there are literally a numerous of hungry ears that will catch on to our love of this genre!
