Pull out you soap boxes...Knuckle-up 'cause here we go again!!!!

I THINK IT'S ABOUT TIME TO TRY TO START UP ANOTHER CONTRAVERSIAL THREAD!!!
(ALA TONY MONACO/FREESTYLE FRENZY CONTRAVERSY OF 2001!)

I'm posting this in the Canada forum since many of our tastes overlap the 2 genres of our beloved freestyle and Euro Dance! I wanna post this in the Freestyle Music Talk section later to get a more "American" perspective after we've established ours up her in the Great White North...........

So here we go!!!!

With the resurgence of freestyle coming from Canadian Artists and the popularity of Euro Dance and the influence of radio stations like Z103.5
Would you consider "break beat" versions of Euro Dance songs to be now Freestyle? (Now that they sport the common 128 bpm/"Planet Rock" Beat that old skool freestyle is known for!

After all, So many Dance artists make a song into 2 versions, Euro and Freestyle "remixes"

I.e.: Joee - "Angel"
Elissa - "Back 2 Me" & "Bilando"
Diana Fox - "Running on Empty"
Tamara - "Never Gonna Let You Go"
DJ Sammy - "Heaven"
First Base - "Follow Me"
Robin Fox - "It's Gonna Be OK"
Prima Donna - "Lucky Star"
Last but not least...Here's a good one....
Lasago - "Something"

Now with all do respect to the various tastes and preferences to our entire CF Dot members/Artists...All of these songs are great and I love them all. (Both versions)

But what I want to know is where do we draw the line?
Euro vs. Freestyle
"Remix" vs. "Original"
Do YOU know the difference?
Many of the Euro Dance "originals" use lyrics similar to "freestyle" lyrics!

I.e.: "I met you...we fell in love...you left me....how could you hurt me this way...I'm missing you" and so on and so forth....

What do you think? Gimmie your opinion! How "Sacred" is the true genre of Freestyle. How do we define it now here in Canada!

All of you are welcome and encouraged to take part in this thread....

EXCEPT FOR ONE PERSON........

.........................Rhoq.........................................

I know your opinion on Euro Dance.....I wanna know what everybody else thinks first...then check back...and
WE'LL BOTH SUBMIT OUR OPINIONS...AFTER A FEW REPLIES!!!!

If we get some different opinions/replies this could be interesting!

Tony Monaco....If you're still out there....I wanna hear your take on this topic!!! You are probably the greatest influence in Canada that forms listeners’ opinions as to what is Euro Dance and what is Freestyle music!

The "Wok" is callin' you out "Jabroni!!!" J/K😉

So let's hear it!
I'll shut up now!:nahnah

that was too long to read buddy! lol

k... um.. this is hard to explain... i know what u mean about the break beat... but freestyle got that little beat on the background... hahaha i know u are probably like HUH? but that's something EURO doesn't have... plus lyrics are not meaning full in EURO... yes he/she left, yes he/she fell in love.... but it's not detailed like in freestyle and it's very repetative.

lmfao.. i now i just did a crappy (F worthy) job on this hahaha.

I think that "break beat" is just like Freestyle. It is just a Freestyle remix. I am not the biggest Euro fan, but I have to say when I hear a Freestyle remix it drives me nuts and for it gives a song a whole new feeling. Down here in Louisiana all they play in the clubs is Breakbeat remixes. Even in Hip Hop songs and it sounds amazing.

I do not consider a break beat mix of a Euro song to be Freestyle. They're definitely seperate genres, and to be honest, I usually prefer the Euro mix of a song over the break beat/freestyle mix. I think Euro just sounds better as Euro and Freestyle as Freestyle, get my drift? 😉 The original mix-genre is generally best! I love both genres, and they both get me pumped though. Gimme a little Freestyle All Stars with some Aurora on the side and I'm going nuts! Pure bliss, I'm in heaven.

PS: The whole reason I found out about this site was because of the original debate! Monaco mentioned it on the show, and I joined to discuss the issue. 😀

eluder is right. freestyle is freestyle.euro is euro.
i personally like them left alone, but sometimes u will come accross of a good remix.like impulse - hold me forever.

ummmm...and its also true what sxy said: euro has less meaningful lyrics than freestyle. Euro tends to draw its attention to the beats rather than the lyrics, making it more...for....ummm....."glowstix action"...rather than emotional purposes.

Rhoq............If you've been following..........I want your input to the topic!!!!I'm gonna throw something from the past thet is....i guess.....some would consider it the "corner stone" of freestyle as we know it!!!

Remember....the whole 128 bpm/planet rock quote from my original post.
well where do songs like...
"planet rock"
"look out weekend"
and "party your body" fit in?
they're all considered freestyle....but they're not of the "meaningful lyrics" section of freestyle

.........ARE WE STILL SHAKING OUR GLOWSTICKS????..........

LOVIN' ALL MY CANADIAN CF BROTHER'S AND SISTERS!

KEEP THIS GOIN! I'D LOVE TO HEAR MORE OF YOUR PERSPECTIVES B4 I SEND THIS THREAD OUT TO THE GENERAL FREESTYLE TALK SECTION, OUR AMREICAN FRIENDS MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE THAN OURS!!!
THERO SPEAK OUT ON THIS ONE...
YOU GOTTA KNACK FOR SPICING THESE THREADS UP!!

consider this...how many euro songs can u name that are really meaningful??? not many. Yes, there are a few 'shake ur booty' freestyle trax, but can u honestly say that euro is a true form of 'love song' productions??? now, can you compared to freestyle? I can't.😀

MOST (not all) freestyle lyrics are soooo powerful, they hit you like a bullet - but EURO make u run to the dancefloor most of the time! 😉

This was from a different forum but it may work here!!!!

ok gina - ceres is impossible to understand....
sxy - which line do u need?

Gurlz....now is "real freestyle" always understandable.....
how can "real freestyle" be deep/powerful if you can't understand what the hell they're saying?

Gina....how long have you been searching for your one line?
Still looking.....Poor Thing!!!!
Maybe Ceres really isn't freestyle.....

Just a thought.....

PINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
its just one line that is being misunderstood - the song makes sense!
just because we miss a line here and there, doesn't mean that its not real freestyle. it is because it speaks to us on a deeper level. The songs overall make sense and are right from the heart - im not saying euro songs r not from the heart, but they're not exactly made so sucessfully that they touch us every time we hear them!

pino.. u did NOT go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CERES is mos def FREESTYLE! lmfao!

i cna't understand pop sometimes... or rap... all the time... does thst mean that they're not what we think they are? lol

you're right that's stuff iz definately not real music...(FREESTYLE LOVER IN ME TALKIN')

is it the beat that makes freestyle?
or iz it the lyrics.....that we may not understand sometimes....
anybody have luck with gina's Ceres line yet?
itz not freestyle until you do....

cause some "funky" freestyle songs are truly based on the 128 bpm syncapated rhythim that were so familliar with.

planet rock doesn't hit me deep, nor does look out weekend.

what about joee's died in your arms originally performed as a euro track, or angel (another euro track) which ended up on a freestyle frenzy comp?
Most recently Lasgo's freestyle break "beat" version on freestyle heaven (one of my fav's on the CD)?

They've been classified as freestyle by your leading authority in Canada...Mr. Monaco....I'm sure Mr. Monaco is aware of what is freestyle....or is he?.....TIME TO OPEN UP THE M!@#$R FU!@#N FLOODGATES!!!

TONY WHERE ARE YOU? WE NEED SOME OF YOUR WISDOM HERE!
RHOQ...COME AND VISIT US UP IN CANADA SO WE COULD HAVE YOUR INPUT!!!
ARTISTS....I'D LOVE TO HAVE AN INSIDER'S OPINION!!!

NEED MORE VIEWS TO COME TO A CONCLUSION!😉

it's the beat... i heard freestyle remixes that had NO WORDS .. AT ALL!!... its all in a beat my love 😉

i never said that when u make a remix a song is not concidered freestyle.. it does... it's called a FREESTYLE REMIX! lol ... am I convincing u?

Actually pino i don't think Tony's been on the site in a while, so you can keep saying his name but he ain responding for now!

As for keeping my mouth shut, for those that know me, you know i can't!!!!

as for the freestyle Euro debate well (here it goes)

Freestyle has a totally diffrent beat/feel to it. When i think of freestyle i think of the older stuff, the glory days of freestyle, which i'm sad to say is over. (i'll get back to this in a sec). Now the Euro is alot like dance, it has a diffrent beat 128, 140 150 it doesn't matter it's the rythem the style of the music not how many beats per second they have. If you could hear me sing i would sing so you can hear what i hear in my hear (which by the way may be a scary thing!) anyways back on topic.

Freestyle has been and will be specific to the area from which it came from, each with a destinct yet similar sound to it. If you notice freestyle out of NY has mroe of the planet rock/let the musci play beats to it a little more influenced from disco and early Hip Hop Muisc. Where as freestyle from Miami had mroe of a Latin feel to it. Toronto which is more european had/has more of a euro/dance feel to it. (yes i know this is a history lesson, i'm going somewhere with this).

Now apply this to modern Freestyle, songs from 2000 to present and future. Freestyle has changed but they are still influenced from the roots of the music, artists that liked the miami/NY style still play that style and product those types of songs. So you asked whats the diffrence, their influences.

Now ask yourself is So Excited considered Freestyle in toronto most will say yes won't they? Going to the club/music industry side if your playing tracks to the public what will they want to hear so excited to i wonder if i take you home? Toronto likes it's Euro/Dance and that plays alot on the freestyle here and most people can't tell the diffrence and they like it like that they want to hear faster beats, more EUROISH style then the harder/underground new releases out. SO it adapted here, ask Tony who because of him there is freestyle on the radio, most people request the more dancish music, the i wish, the prema donna, the luca, 2AM style of music to the george lamond, TKA etc. It's an overlap, thats the best way to put it, supply and demand. Bottem line is it's a business and like all others money is needed to survive and unfortunetly there (in my eyes) is a HUGE decline in Euro and Freestyle in toronto, evey DJ i've worked with, evey club i've worked for (ask Dj Constantine) they want to hear two things HOUSE and R&B and R&B wins every time with the ladies here.

as for Remix's there is always remakes of songs, some better then the original some jsut as good or some that suck... nuff said!

OK I WARNED YOU, DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!
