Who do you choose as GodParents? my family always keeps it in the family, like my cousin is the god mother to my 17 year old, and my sister is the godmother to my 7 year old...some peeps aren't close to thier families like that so they choose friends over family...what is your take on this? who would you trust with the welfare of your chile, should pass away or can't take care of them anymore because of whatever reason?
 
hmmmm i guess its time for me to sit and ponder this huh. my kids don't have any, not really anyone out there I trust w/ this task.....damn we assed out :crap
 
I think it should go to family OR a very close friend. My cousins are the Godmothers of my boys, but their godfathers are 2 Uncles & a very close friend of their father. I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes you have a friend that is just like family & that can be considered but fr the most part if you are close to family, I feel the Godparents should be family members.
 
Hmmm good question. I would say it's got to be a family member but then again if you have a good friend that's close with the family as well as with yourself and you feel they would do best for the child then I see nothing wrong with that.

My godchild is one of my best friend's daughter. So there's an example. LOL! We've known each other since the 3rd grade and she as well as her family are like part of my family. Her girls call my mom and dad mawmaw and pawpaw. 🙂

I dont have God Paretns for my son but its because I am not Catholic and neither is his Father I was raised penticostal so we do a sort of ceremnoy where we present the children to the lord and it doesnt require god Parents just the parents but if I were catholic I would say a family memeber or a a good friend someone you consider family if I am not mistaken you can have two God parents referred to as the Padrinos de Agua at least thats what my cousin had so it helps make choosing a lil easier u can have a fam member and frined I guess. I think you shoudl just go with your heart God forbid soemthign was to happen who would take and love yuor child just as much thats bottom line for me who ever would love My Tavi as if he were theres.
 
My oldest son has my sister and Brother in law... My daughter is the only one I picked friends to be her godparents and they weren't a couple.. her Godfather barely sees her or calls, but her godmother is my best friend and she lives right downstairs.. she and I will be friends for life and she and my daughter have a great relationship.. but my Gay best friend Ronnie and one of my other girlfriends baptized her "de Agua" and so my daughter considers him her godfather.. as for my youngest.. his aunt and uncle (brother and sister) on his father's side baptized him..
But if something were to happen to me.. my kids would go to my family.. I would certainly expect for their godparents to help guide them and visit them and tell them stories about me and things that happened in the past.. but the only people who would raise them would be my family or their father's.

I for one have One Godchild my niece Bianca, my sisters daughter, and one de Agua like Angie said..which is Erica the daughter of my junior high school friend, her family and my family are great frienda sicne we moved to ny in 79" and our mothers ae best friends. But i feel the same way about being a Godmother, I have my niece and that is good enough for me. I can love a child with all my heart, but not sure if I can take on anymore kids in my household..lololol
 
I guess it is like heartbreak said when it comes down to it the childs father or family memebers like sister, brother or grandparents take your children God Parents are more so to eb there to give that added measure of protection. Somone you trust with your babie/babies to teach them and love them. It is an honor to be named someones god parent so when choosing said person I think you follow your heart who would you want to always be a part of your childs life. I always thought it didnt make sense to make sisters or brothers god parents casue they the auntie and uncle regardless lol but thats just me. I knwo if something were to happen to me his daddy would raise him with my mom and sis being active parts of his life 🙂
 
Well I am the Godmother to my cousin's daughter and my best friend's son...usually like everyone has mentioned before it's a family member or a very close friend..

yeah cause friendships can end, but family will always be there.

But Nessa you're right, family can mess up too.... my son's uncle who happens to be his godfather doesn't even call and hasn't seen him for years....
