Your a pisser, Chuck!!

we used to make fun of a school on long island that people said were for gay people. I cant remember the name of the school but the slogan was "the school with no stairs" which meant that the students were "fairies" and they flew from floor to floor!

This is an interesting debate. While I don't agree with segregation as a whole, I think the Harvey Milk school is intended to be a safe haven for kids who might be harrassed in their regular school. It's a means to keep those kids IN school as opposed to them dropping out of school because they are afraid to step through the doors of their local school. There are so many gay teens out there these days and I think that the education is the key, no matter where they get it from. I'm sure that no student would be turned away, regardless of their orientation, so it would be inclusive. I mean, look at it this way, there are already schools for the blind, schools for the deaf, Catholic Schools, Yeshivas, Lutheran schools, etc., this is just one more, but this one would be INCLUSIVE of all types, not only gay teens.

I could clearly see why a homosexual 14, 15, 16, or 17 year old would prefer to go to a "gay" high school. Why deal with the name calling and all that shit that goes on in an ordinary high school? Why go through so much shit day in and day out being called a "f****t" "homo", or even a lesbian? And why don't the teachers or the administration do anything about it?

Shit like that gets in the way, especially when you're trying to focus on school. No one should have to go through that. I dealt with that immature crap in high school and if I had the choice to go to school in the Village, right on. I so would. Props to the kids that are going there in the Fall.

How is this "school" going to be funded?

Do the taxpayers of NYC have to pay for this? Does the state pay?

I would imagine that it's funded just like any other NYC public school. I don't see why it would need any special funding. The taxpayers of NYC pay for all public schooling and all the programs included in that, such as D.A.R.E., and special education programs.
