right... well i gre up listening to freestyle and i amassed a collection of freestyle records an became the locaal freestyle dj back in maybe 97 or so. when buffy came out with give me a reason, and smaller freestyle labels were coming up (classified, velocity) in the bay area. as good, new freestyle music became harder and harder to find and i went to more and more raves i got into the funky breaks and uk breaks (lee coombs, rennie p, blim, pmt, etc...) with all i know about freestyle and all that i know about breaks i find it hard to believe they are so unrelated (with breaks coming from james brown and disco loops, while freestyle sprouted off kraftwerk and afrikaa bumbaata/planet patrol). yet an older raver i know tells me they used to play freestyle at raves... can anyone vouch for this? i'm really curious to know how freestyle fits into the scene and i think someone older than me an my 19 years of wisdom might help. thanks

I still use freestyle accapellas over house tracks as well as other samples remix on the fly

i'm no DJ, but i used to rave a lot... and i know i used to hear a lot of old school tracks over house beats.... plus most the new-skool freestyle is all over house beats.... but its real tyte hearing Angelina or NBK, and Safire hit up with some hardcore techno.... i wouldn't want to sit and listen to it in my room.... i like the originals for that.... but in clubs or at raves... its real nice.

yeah, its interesting that you mention that because looking at a lot of oder freestyle vinyls, they have house mixes (generally pretty boring and uncreative) but i guess thats just somethin else that makes me wonder. thanks for your input

after Freestyle was considered dead in 93, i got into the east coast rave scene, and even became assistant to rave dj superstar dj Keoki for a few years...i traveled the world and went to some of the best rave parties ever. At these parties i always made dj Keoki play freestyle acapella's over breakbeat & trance records. i'll never forget the ZEN rave in florida in 1997, Keoki threw in the acapella of one of Fascination's songs and thousands of kids where singing along! it was so funny to see all these ecstacy feeling kids jamming to it LOL.
i also remember attending a few rave afterhours in NY and miami where they would throw in classic hits by johnny 0, shannon, Angelina, Cover girls,Coro,Lil' suzy, and more....the kids always went crazy for it since most of them grew up with it...
