It wouldn't work if people rapped over freestyle music because then it would become booty bass and booty bass is dying much faster than freestyle and 2-step. I always mix dirty south hip hop or regular hip hop with freestyle, booty bass, and house - of course the hip hop or r&b song must go half the speed of the faster song and I guess that's the best way to introduce it. A lot of people complain that they only like certain types of music or hate some form of music but since I've learned to be open minded and accept different types of music, I can mix anything and d.j. almost anywhere and feel comfortable in at almost any place or atmophere, and I use this asset to find a way to throw in a freestyle song everytime no matter what the situation. I've d.j.'ed rap/hip hop contests and found a way to throw in freestyle. I even played Natalise, S.F.Spanish Fly, and Adriana back to back in such a way I was told that it sounds cool. They even had to rap over a freestyle beat for a moment because I snuck it in on them. Maybe Outkast could make a freestyle song, but nobody else would become succesful at it. Maybe l.l. cool j, because he did going back to cali. Maybe bone thugs & harmony could make more bass remixes of their songs just like they did with "thuggush ruggish bone"(bass mix), "thug mentallity"(kaylie's west coast bass mix), and "it's all good" remixes. The most efficient way to make a popular freestyle song is to make it sound trancey, or use the beat of "i'll fly with you" like Natalise, Malyssa, and sx4 did, or most of all you will have to make the song half fast and half slow so it could cross over into the R&B category. Madonna is the one that should do a freestyle song. Britney, Kylie Minogue, and Sammy should too. They will become succesful. There is already a song I have by ja rule that sounds very close to freestyle but the vocals are too much. It has the "strange love" by Depeche mode rhythm and starts out like a freestyle song would with a house beat, but that intro is shorter than usual. -- by the way, I'm back at clubfreestyle.com so hello again!

terrible idea, if it was successful then these freestyle artists would try and become rnb singers to cash in on the music that is being played on the radio.....good for them, bad for freetyle

I think u guys are looking too deep into it........ I think ant's original point was it's still a freestyle song by a freestyle artist, but with a quick appearance by a known mainstream rapper thrown in to reach the youngins....... 🙂

I've noticed that Southern R&B sounds like New school freestyle....

I noticed that also. A lot of the down south rappers are using the 808 beats for their records w/electro sounds. OutKast has a lot on their last album."The Way You Move" is a more smoothed out bass track, "Ghettomuzik" is a straight up bass/techno track, it's wild! Both disc's for that album are off the hook!

-Oh I forgot, I've noticed that reggae/dancehall wasn't recieving a lot of airplay. Then Sean Paul came out and opened the door to all these other reggae artists that suddenly became popular in places they weren't even heard. Same thing Ricky Martin did with latin artists. Forget R&B. All we need is a popular artist Like J-lo or Madonna to make a freestyle hit and I'm sure if it's done correctly, others will get in on it. Corina had potential with "summertime summertime", but the problem was that it could not be found anywhere except one compilation that almost nobody knew about even though it was produced by Jermaine Dupri - if you know who he is. So So def didn't do enough to promote it...

I am not so sure about that? Most of Madonnas recent singles recently have sounded sort of like freestyle........anyone remember music........120 bpms........and very very much like freestyle, and die another day..........also very freestyle sounding........

Now, the best way to make a bass/freestyle track is to slow it down because these days it sounds like anyone that wants to make a popular dance track that doesn't have a house beat makes a slowed bass or breakbeat version - for example "where's your head at" by Nappy Roots, "pull over(that ass is to phat)" - Trina, "The way you move" - Outkast "die another day" - Madonna, "like I love you" - Justin timberlake --- even Mikaila's "so in love with two" back in the year 2000. Sarai made an uptempo hit "ladiez" but her trick was to make it half fast half slow like Jordan Knight and Sammie did, but making it sound more cool with a dirty south rap sound - almost booty bass but kind of electro break freestyle. I've also noticed Missy Elliot did something similar (to the slowed down dance breaks) - I just forgot the name of that song and don't feel like going to find the c.d. case my sister has. Just like Hex hector and thunderpuss is famous for making house remixes, we need someone famous for making bass & breakbeat remixes, and cibola doesn't seem to be doing it anymore. Don't call it "freestyle remix" anymore because nobody calls it freestyle anymore - it's like we're in denial about the name and find something else to call it - like breakbeat, techno, rave, bass... etc. To make it even worse, people that don't know freestyle will never fully understand it because when it was popular, it wasn't called freestyle. It was called latin hip hop, pop, or hi energy dance and now that we call it freestyle it's no longer popular so people hear these new (freestyle) songs and know it's not house so they get confused and try to categories it as techno or breakbeat, then when you go to the dirty south (where I once lived for 6 years) they want to call it booty bass unless it's to a point that it obviously isn't a booty bass track or artist so they don't care too much for it. (by the way, booty bass died because now what they do is cut it down to half the speed of it calling it dirty south music.) I would like to hear a freestyle track with sounds similar to that of Angelina's first album put to a dirty south beat - I'm just waiting to see who will be the first to do it and create this new type of music. I think the last real freestyle hit was "masquerade" by Science, and the last freestyle song to really be popular was "I do both jay & jane" by La Rissa. Ever since then I haven't really heard anything new become a hit. I don't consider "I'll fly with you" by Gigi d' agostino, or "Simply being loved" by BT a freestyle hit because I'm sure they weren't thinking of freestyle when creating those songs. I'm not really sure about Sonique though, but the best thing to do when songs like that come out is to release a freestyle track because a lot of radio stations will play house or trance when they mix, then when they hit a breakbeat song, it kind of encourages/makes them want to play another breakbeat sounding track to mix in with it, and I noticed that when Daniel Beddingfield release his 2STEP (not freestyle) track "gotta get through this", it would usually be mixed into the Paul okenfold remix (breakbeat) of "days go by" by Dirty Vegas. A few people tried copying the sounds of other artists songs and just making it to their own rhythm, but I've noticed it doesn't really work in freestyle as it does in other types of music. Yes, at one point it did, but I think that ended with "a little bit of ecstacy" and "in a dream". But after sonique made her hit, I noticed that China Dolls made "I'll know how to love you" sounding very much like Sonique's "it feels so good", then La Rissa's "someone to love me" original version also had that sound. It kind of worked for China Dolls, but Natalise, Malyssa, SX4, and all these people trying to have the "i'll fly with you" beat... it's not really working because all I hear on the radio still is "i'll fly with you"! I got Bad Boy Joe's new generation freestyle and the last freestyle song on there, she tried the same thing! The "i'll fly with you" beat, just changing the rhythm. Yes, maybe Eiffil 65 made "blue" and when people tried to imitate the sound (you and me baby ain't nothin but mammal so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel) and (Kim Lucas "all I really want), they became succesful. Maybe "do you think you're better off alone" was followed by a whole lot of similar sounding songs (for example "higher & higher"), and ATB "9pm - till I come" was also imitated (for example; "sun si shining") and that became succesful, but with freestyle it doesn't seem to be getting the same effect. I've already heard other people (on compilations) trying to copy "gotta get thru this" sounds (kim esty is one of them, and those of you that have freestyle heaven 5 and had payed attention to each one of the songs on there know what I want to say next...). I'm not sure how well Dana Rayne is doing, but must be doing O.K. because it is recieving some airplay here in Arizona (Energy 92.7/101.1).

-That Bad Boy Joe c.d. I was talking about was megamix vol. 4. I'm just waiting to see who's first at trying to make a similar sound to Ferry Corsten "digital punk". I don't think there is anything wrong with trying something similar to what originally became successful in the beginning because after all, isn't that part of what life has been all about? (Mc Donalds; burger king, wendy's, arby's,...etc./MTV, VH1, MUCH MUSIC/Mad T.V.,SNL/rick dees weekly top 40; casey casem top 40(don't know how to spell it) hollywood hamilton's rhythm countdown/wal-mart;k-mart, target.../walgreens; eckerd, osco, cvs, savon.../sprite; 7up, squirt, lemon lime,/Candid Camera; Jamie Kennedy, Lentes Loco's... ok let me stop now!

-Oh and when I said Natalise, Malyssa, and SX4... etc. were imitating the beat of "I'll fly with you", I meant one song on each album, not the entire albums - and each one of those songs were a song they decided to release. Maybe you haven't heard of SX4 - don't worry. I found out about it kind of early - you should probably hear them in your town sometime in the near future.

I DON'T THINK THEY MISSED THE POINT !!!!!!!
IF THE HISTORY WAS WRITTEN, YOU WOULD SEE THAT WHEN FREESTYLE WAS MAINSTREAM YOU WOULD HEAR RAPPERS DO THEIR THING TO OUR MUSIC AND IT WAS ACCEPTED INTO OUR MUSIC BACK THEN BUT, I DON'T SEE THEM ACCEPTING FREESTYLE IN THEIR MUSIC RIGHT NOW.....
AND ULTIMIX MADE A GOOD POINT ABOUT THE BPM'S.....
FREESTYLE IN IT'S TRUEST FORM IS BETWEEN 117 BPM'S AND 124 BPM'S....AFTERTHAT YOU HAVE SOMETHING ELSE SO IF ITS FREESTYLE, KEEP IT WERE IT NEEDS TO BE RESPECTIVELY :spin
