DJ SONIK, thanks for clearing that up because it sounded in your last post that you were going to bootleg it if you didnt get it at the price you wanted it for.

Well, I right away went through my rolladex and called a friend from RIAA to discuss it with them.

One thing about me is I hate bootleegers. I see my music everywhere. At the Italian Feasts, In stores at clubs , In the streets .... Everywhere and I walk up and buy a copy and get a recept while a friend is video taping so we can have the proff in court. Then RIAA comes and makes the arrest. They dont play and I love it.

Here ya go again... www.riaa.com

If you are not stealing, Then we can be friends.

Mickey, I understand your anger and frustration to see your intellectual property contained on someone's mix, but in all due respect DJing is an art and a DJ's mix is his/her own itellectual property, it is their craft. If you look at it from another perspective, I think artists and labels should be flattered that the DJ finds their music good enough to be featured in the mix...

I think thats overkill.

If Freestyle was as in demand as it once was, then I can see your point. But the demand is low and radio play even lower. You should be grateful people still include Mic Mac tracks in Mix Tapes. It helps Freestyle by keeping it out there. By attacking these DJ's who add a track or two , you hurt the industry itself. Freestyle is not in the state where tracks should be paid for to be included in Mix Tapes. I enjoy Mix Tape Buzz, it's a great way to promote. I want to see anyone say it WOULD NOT help a new artist create attention for themselves, the track, and the industry itself. I remeber going to Beat Street in Fordham Rd once and buying 3 Freestyle Mix Tapes. That got me to Purchase Cynthia's first album and her second. It serves a purpose, and should be embraced.

I need to get more information about - what else is considered bootleging. so far I have noticed that some lables have problems with the following.

Compilations featuring songs used without permission.
Mix CDs and Tapes featuring songs used without permission.
and
intenet downloading (which is somewhat different).

I have wanted to do a compilation for years but never attempted it. cause I mainly wanted to help promote what I thought were some of the best songs that never got real exposure

What I would like to know is, what else is considered bootlegging or piracy

Is it basically making money off someone elses product without thier permission? What if its something like a promotional givaway and all music credits are listed?

what about TV?

I know if its a main theme song permission is needed, but what if its just background music for something thats not for sale.

Ive seen videos with clips of people in Night clubs and theres dance music blasting in the background. how does that work?

Im a radio DJ so im mainly allowed to to play them on the air, for personal use and if by any chance i dicide to mix at a club or party, or festival or convention. Hey I need some new stuff man LOL.

but serously, what do I need to make a givaway promotional CD (non-profit)

Here is the many ways that BOOTLEGGING has been KILLING the BUSINESS….

1. DJ’s selling their mix to retail stores for mass re production which the label and artist loose profits from and only the DJ supplying the MIX profits.

2. The Internet DOWNLOADING business. If they just made the mp3 start at the beginning of the first verse of the songs and end after or in the break, (Which I think is cool) That would STOP PEOPLE FROM BURNING IT TO CD’s. And I would consider that being PROMOTION!!!

It’s not about the one copy that a DJ sells at the DJ booth to someone drunk even though that is in a sense stealing also but it’s about those guys out there that SELL MILLIONS OF BOOTLEGG CD’s in Flee Markets, Carnivals, Fairs, and like Jack mentioned Street Corners..

I am not going after the DJ’s…

I am going after the BOOTLEGGERS. And so is everyone else. The business is changing and we need Bootlegging to stop..

I figure I warn you before it’s to late. You can be arrested by a rep of Warner Bros, Sony, Arista before you even hear from me but I am the one talking here and they are not.

I was just trying to make a point and warn the bootleggers..

You know who you are and so do we..

You might as well come to my face and take the money right out of my pockets..

Do you think I would let anyone do that???

Would you let anyone do that to YOU???

I rest my case…

Have a wonderful day.

Fire ball, If you want to do a Compilation CD and need advice, Feel free to call me at my office anytime to discuss it.

I have respect for someone like you who ask on how to do a compilation the legal way rather than some people who think they know it all and do it without the labels permission.

About background music on Movies, TV etc. The music has to be licensed from the prospected administrators to cover the master and the Publishing.

Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss it in detail.

Have a wonderful day...

I just wanted to mention that it was a pleasure meeting all of the CF peeps that showed up at the CF Coney Island Beach get together.

Jack, That was really nice of you to set that up and I will be looking forward to the next one.

Nyasia, You look great and like I always said and will continue to say, You were always my favorite artist on MicMac!!!

Maybe I will bring some FREE good with me for the next CF bash but I do not have any MicMac product at this time... Not even returns of old stuff..

I would have to bring some 21st. Century Records product which is all House, Trance and Dance stuff.

Anyway, I had a great time and then Edwin Ramos, his best friend and I all went to White Castle on 4th. ave. and threw down on some of my favorite burgers... LOL

You Freestylers missed out on the ENCORE at White Castles..
We had a blast!!!!

Much love and respect to everyone. hope to meet up with you all again real soon......

Have a wonderful day!!!
