Who was the first Freestyle singer to make it to the radio and what was the song? :freek

"LET THE MUSIC PLAY" by Shannon - the 1st Freestyle song ever recorded and te first Freestyle song to chart. 😉

Did she set the trend for Freestyle? I mean, when I listen to her, I think she was just doing a dance song and not really targeting a "Freestyle" movement. I'm not saying she's not Freestyle, but when I hear "FREESTYLE", Shannon is not the first to mind.

FROM WHAT I CAN REMEMBER ... pARTY YOUR BODY- sTEVIE b

Although Shannon only had a handful of Freestyle songs, she does have the honor and distinction of recording the very first Freestyle song, ever. When I think of Shannon, I think of Freestyle and Chris Barbosa. Without him, Freestyle wouldn't have been created. Without Shannon, "LET THE MUSIC PLAY" would have been a rap song named "FIRE AND ICE". 😉

I agree with Dave....I don't really see any freestyle in Let the Music Play!

Just out of curiosity...if you guys don't consider "LET THE MUSIC PLAY" by Shannon to be the first ever Freestyle song, what do you think is?

Keep in mind that no other song came close in sounding like that prior to the realease of "LET THE MUSIC PLAY", but yet just about every Freestyle song that came after it either sounded like it or contained elements of it, time and time again. Even to this day, many Freestyle songs still borrow from the "LET THE MUSIC PLAY" formula 😉

i also agree on let the music play 🙂
also there was another one by cover girls and expose

Welll......it depends.....some people call it freestyle....some call it electro funk.....whateva.

lol

I have heard some people say that the first freestyle song was "Please Don't Go" by Nayobe.

"Let The Music Play" is from which year???

Freddy

1983

One year before "PLEASE DON'T GO" by Nayobe and 2 years before "I WONDER IF I TAKE YOU HOME" by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - both of which I hear many people consider the first ever freestyle song.

yup, its a toss up.

Sal and I were discussin thuis today. Nayobe is the first LATIN HIP HIP song and LISA LISA fell into the R&B genre. Shannon is pretty much close to being the first but many classify her under "ELECTRONICA".

You know what i think its "second Chance for love" by Nayobe... i have the kings & queends Freestyle DVD & i think i remember them mentioning that..im gonna watch it again to be sure...:confused
