Not to date myself but when I first went into the military back in January of '87, I was first stationed in Monterey, CA and thanks to KDON (Salinas) I first got exposed to Freestyle in a big way minus Shannon's Let the music play, Nice N wild's Diamond Girl and Lisa Lisa's "I wonder if I take you home". The first songs played on the station were Nancy Martinez' "For Tonight",
Cyre's "Last Chance",
Expose's "Come Go with me",
Sweet Sensation's "Hooked on you",
Company B's "Fascinated",
and the Cover Girls' "Show Me".
Unfortunately nothing by Stevie B., TKA, Cynthia, Judy, Brenda K. Starr, Safire or Cynthia at the time. However, the jams kept continuing on through the year when I was there with
Noel's "Silent Morning"
Trinere's "They're playing our song"
Nocera's "Summertime Summertime"
Expose's "Point of no return"
Sweet Sensation's "Victim of love"
Trinere's "Can't get enough"
Company B's "Perfect Lover"
The Cover Girls' "Because of You"
Expose's "Let me be the one"
Madonna's "Who's that girl" ---I am sure I will get some slack on this one
Taylor Dayne's "Tell it to my heart"
Will To Power's "Dreamin'"
Pretty Poison's "Catch me I'm Falling"
Giggles' "Love Letter"
Samantha Fox's "Naughty Girls"
Taylor Dayne's "Prove your love"
I was lucky to hear so much Freestyle on the radio and in the clubs, even though I was underage at the time, but when I got to England in the Summer of '88 it was like this dance genre didn't exist other than The Pet Shop Boys "Domino Dancing" and Samantha Fox's "Naughty Girls". Thanks to the radio station KDON, I have been into Freestyle ever since.
