The Night started off with Lidell singing " YOLANDA" which was a very good performance. THEN OF COURSE OUR VERY OWN JOHNNY O..WOW WHAT A PERFORMANCE..Johnny tor up the CLUB he did SOOOOO GOOD and that MAN IS SO FULL OF ENERGY I was like '''GO Johnny "Go Johnny" he did an excellent perfomance..LOVE HIM...he also performed his new stuff and it is OOFF THE HOOK so be sure to go get it" I KNOW I WILL after hearing it!
THEN DREAM GIRL CYNTHIA-the CROWD WAS GOING CRAZY as SHE walk on to the stage...everyone cheering for her, she had a EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
as she sang "Changed on Me" Thief of Hearts all here hits....
Cynthia looked Beautiful as EVER and really good for having her 2nd little baby on the way,..Good luck Cynthia!
Then as Cynthia finishes up one of her hits...we hear the voice of JOHNNY singing "Dream girl" THE CROWD STARTED GOING NUTS.they closed up the show with their hit Dreamgirl/Dreamboy.....The Show at the Rivera in Chicago SOLD OUT it was a crowd of more then 3,000 freestyle fans!

Is this the twilight zone? I have friends and family in Chicago that are always up on what's going on and I was visiting a couple weeks ago. They said they never saw one flyer or heard anything about it. I could believe there could still be a show, but 3,000 people? I used to stay out in Chicago and something like that would've been a long shot even 5 years ago. How they get 3,000 people to come out to a freestyle show that absolutely no one knew anything about? There has to be something to the story i'm missing. Unless it was a b96 concert where the freestyle acts were only a few and there was other non-freestyle acts. Still, 3,000 people in Chicago for Cynthia? Freestyle is totally dead out there. Where were the flyers and posters like back in the day? They used to promote freestyle concerts like crazy out there that wouldn't even have 1,000 people. I know there has to be more to the story.

Patty! I'm glad you enjoyed the show! I know I did when I saw him back in December! 😀

hey pattycakes...thanx for "havin' my back" girl...i owe 😉 😉 ya one!

as for FREESTYLEHEAD....well, no posters or flyers like the old dayz bro..it's this simple really...freestyle was such a huge success here for quite a long time and made up most of the daily rotation that b96 had back then, then like most places it was doormant here for soooo many years. a couple years ago a station called ENERGY RADIO 92.7&5 out here made it's mark. it had a weak signal in comparison to b96 but it had a very similar format that b96 did back then. it took the club goers away cuz b96 was all hip-hop and once it became apparent that it was not going to change, b96 ever so slowly started playing 1 "old skool" track every morning at 8:30 a.m. to see what would happen...the response was so good they made these promo "flashback" cd's they gave away on air and thru the website. with the promo cd's getting so much damn demand they decided to throw the first flashback party featuring george lamond, tka and k7...which had to be moved to 2 shows becuz of the overwhelming demand. both were sell-outs without one flyer or poster...all thru just the radio promo's. after that they immediately put the ball in motion for party #2, again, all thru the station promotion...this time it featured cynthia, johnny O and lydell townsell, he of "NU-NU" fame....party #3 is now in the worx and after the first show they renamed their station back to "the new killer b" (it was called "the killer b" back then) and have since been playing old skool hits more and more...

there you have it...sometimes when you are without something you really loved for awhile and get the chance to have it again, it is just as good, if not better, than when it left you....we will see how long it lasts but it is great to see!!

HELLO KRYSTAL...HOW YOU BEEN GIRL?? 😉

I WAS RIGHT! It was a b96 concert with other non-freestyle acts. Much props to Cynthia. I'm happy to see her still getting some pub. However, an event such as this one could hardly be called a "freestyle concert". A freestyle concert would feature other non-radio freestyle artists and be promoted on the streets to at least some extent. A freestyle concert in Chicago would unfortunately not have as good of a turn out as a radio flashback concert would. For an artist such as "Ashley" to make it out to Chicago for a show, it would have to be a true freestyle show (something not thrown by a pop radio station).

As for b96 being hip hop, that is not or never was the case. B96 is a top 40 radio station which plays chart radio hits. Right now cheezy hip hop is being charted in the top 40 so CHR stations are playing it. The only reason why freestyle ever got played on big stations in some markets back in the day was because at the time pop music was very weak and "street dance music" was hot. Ten or twelve years ago, freestyle songs that were NOT charted in the top 40 were being played because young people were more into underground music back then.

Freestyle in Chicago.

I have not heard about a "Freestyle concert" in Chicago in a WHILE...BUT I have been hearing ALOT lately of FREESTYLE SHOWS...starting with Chromium night club in Chicago they have freestyle acts...such as George Lamond, TKA,Cynthia Johnny O,Judy Torres, and more...but lately in CHICAGO you hear more & more freestyle and now with B96 playing a little more flashbacks/freestyle they are bringing acts to Chicago (which the first 2 sold out),I personally think it is good for freestyle because now that b96 is playing it a little more it introduces FREESTYLE TO A MUCH younger crowd that brings in more FREESTYLE SUPPORTERS...Freestyle will live forever!
I listen to b96 here and there BUT when I hear about any KIND of Freestyle act coming to town on right on top of it....

Freestyle head-tell your family and friends to go to Chromium night club were they have freestyle acts...Ashely and Naya hope to come see you perform soon in CHICAGO!

AS LONG AS ANY KIND OF RADIO STATION IS GIVING FREESTYLE AIRPLAY..I'M HAPPY!

:stevieb :switch :mdance :shakinboo

FREESTYLEHEAD....well, although lydell townsell was not a freestyle act, that made up only 1/3 of the acts that night...the first concert was 100% freestyle..k7 did do a few freestyle trax and of course is part of tka anyways so out of the 6 acts that have taken the stage at the 2 events so far, 5 are freestyle or have freestyle trax in their repetuire. now b96 never said these were "freestyle shows" but did acknowledge at the very beginning that to them, "flashback" is synonomus with freestyle music and when they play these flashbacks, MOST are freestyle acts/songs.

as for b96, i never said they were a hip-hop station, rather, their format has been long-since dominated by hip-hop acts/songs or hip-hop influenced songs..hence my statement of them being mostly "all hip-hop" by and large since pulling freestyle from their rotation...you can listen to them, WGCI AND POWER 102 and they might as well be one in the same...

b96 would never call any of their shows "freestyle shows" now or at any other time. in it's heyday when freestyle dominated their rotation, all their shows featured almost all freestyle acts but they always called them the "b96 summer jams", "killer b show", or "b96's killer b bash 1, 2, 3", etc. as well as other titles, but even then, never just "b96 freestyle show". as much as i love ashley and and much talent i feel she has, it may not happen where b96 once again plays new artists like her, new image or even new tka material...not saying they wont cuz i will not say never cuz i hold out hope, ya never know...but for her or any other new skool artist not associated with their past format and playists of freestyle, the odds of getting on a b96 show are not good.

the chromium in the city or the cove in waukegan are their best hope to get the chicago audience. so far the only acts to take the stage at chromium have been old skool artists only cuz in the end, it is a business and they hafta be sure they will pack the house. as much as dino loves freestyle and supports it, if the audience does not have a good familiarity with the act, it can be risky for them (that is my opinion on why it is hard to get a gig there for new skoolers and i am not at all speaking for dino)....that is the catch 22 for new skoolers trying to get on the chromium stage or any other stage for that matter, always has been. if they do not really have access to the main airwaves here to get a following to bring in the crowd, they get stuck..it sux, but thats the way it is.

my suggestion to new skoolers is to look at it this way. there is no major radio outlet here for NEW freestyle songs/artists...get harv roman your stuff, as most of you do, as well as d.j. ace groove at WCRX in the city. angle yourself to get a paying gig at THE COVE first and at the same time when you see a freestyle show coming up at THE CHROMIUM. if you have to, offer your show for free to the chromium to open up for the main act...that might work, i cannot promise you but it may since they will probably get a packed house already and it takes that pressure off of them to rely on the unknown with a new skooler. without radio support here, that might be your best and only shot....just a suggestion.

They should do another song together. Although I guess they'd have to constantly live up to and be compared to "Dream.."
