USA Today did a story of Timika Hudson, a woman in Fla who has been missing for 2 years. Hudson is black. A reported brought this to the attention of why her dissapearance and the three girls in Kansas who was also missing and turned up dead and was also black did not get the big media search and find coverage that The Runaway bride and the missing girl in Aruba and Laci peterson was getting.

Do you guys think that the race card should have been brought into this or is there a point that needs to be taken with this and addressed?

sorry man

was the ball roles. if your white and fine like that chick in aruba the whole world is gonna stop. and lidsay petterson was a bit of a looker to so the whole world stopped a bit too.

wed have to see what that black chick looks like?

its not that looks have anything to do with it. its that aurba girl and pettrson girl are poeple.

who you would end up dealing with at the middle and upper levels of society. in work

in events. in universites. and upper to middle society. where lets face it? the world lives and breathes.

wed have to see the black chick? if she looks like someone. youd be dealing with? or someone that reminds you of other important people in society.

like if she venessa white. or if she looked like oprah whimpfry or looked like some of the black news casters etc,. society would be shaken up. but the person whos missing.

has gotta remind you or hit close to home. to catch your attention.

In my opinion, this has absolutely nothing to do with race. It is a fact of life, that there are hundreds and hundreds of missing people out there, but only some get media coverage, while most do not. I also believe that sometimes it's the circumstances behind how they went missing that captivate the public. With Laci peterson, you had a 27 yr old, 8-month pregnant, beautiful married woman, whose smile captivated the nation. When you saw pics of her and Scott, they looked like the perfect couple. As time went on and suspicion surrounding Scott grew, that captivated people even more. Plus, her family constantly went on TV to talk about her because thy wanted to get out as much info as possible. Same thing with Natalee Holloway..it's the story that captivated people..an 18 yr old girl from Alabama who went on a senior class trip with classmates to Aruba and never came home. There are hundreds of other missing people out there of EVERY race, who we dont hear about. I do believe that we should know about every single one of them so that the public could be aware and assist in tips and leads. I just dont know if that's possible.

The news is like a tv show. They go with a story that will get ratings, and not repeat similar stories.

How many kids go missing each year? But we only heard about Jon Bonay Ramsey. How many wives get killed by husbands? we only heard about Laci.

They won't repeat a similar story, so they need to find another newer headline.

Give me a break rbonuc..it's not about her being "fine" . It's about the fact that she went missing in Aruba, a place where crime is very unusual, and she went missing wihout a trace.

Totally racist in my opinion. What makes one missing person more important than another missing person? NOTHING! Don't get me wrong, I was just as into the Laci Peterson case as the next person, but had Laci and Scott been black, do you really think we would've even heard about the case, let alone seen it on the news every night? I think not.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally did not follow the Laci Peterson story and am not really following the Natalee Holloway story cuz I'm sorry but it has no bearing on what's going on in my life.

The media does this to get ratings and there are people that THRIVE on this kind of stuff. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

I don't think it has anything to do with race, i think it has to do with how hard and publicly the families make it. They call they own news conferences, they are loud and make sure they are heard.

we live in a soceity where it is impolite..immoral.. on the surface to be racist or make racist remarks..we are "all created equal" and we dont accept social labels anymore weve "progressed"

now reality check... racsim prejudice..discrimination..hate.. all are alive and well and thriving!!!!! its just not as out in the open as before

as far as an event involving a missing woman..i cant remeber the last time if ever..that a case gained national attention..where the missing woman was latin or black (and these are some of the most beautiful women on the planet) so the answer to the topic of the thread is YES!! and now a movie/show on her horrible ordeal??? (the runaway bride)

how about a movie about a young latin woman who has to dodge bullets on a weekly basis while walking her child home from school..because her neighborhood is ruled by street thugs who deal drugs out in the open ..now thats horrible!!

I agree with Tae what about the Black woman who was 8 months pregnant and was murdered her boyfriend/father of the child was suspect just as in the Laci peterson case yet he is walking free. No major headlines there. Looks have nothing to do with the fact the media will put one headline over another. Race to me does play a role it wont ever be admitted to oin the media but it is and has been for ages in corporaet america shit like this goes on all the time.

they just had in the paper yesterday in the daily news a new york city cop who wasnt even legally an american citizen but still a trinidad national who shot the mother of his children point blank in the head back in 2001 for asking more money for child support juliet alexander a who ironically enough was a hispanic federal imigration officer ..the case went cold for four years and only was broken when the sargent was busted for other imigration and housing fraud charges and a witness came foward on the killing..now thats a giant scandal but was just a little article in the paper not even talikng up a quater of a page right before the classifieds the "killer cop" martin peters was so openly suspected by his peers of the murder..the squad nick name for him was
"marty the murderer"

guess she wasnt "white" enough for the front page

I agree. 🙂

I think it's sad that everything has to be made into a racist issue. No offense, but there are plenty of missing white people who dont get coverage. The bottom line is that some cases just get more coverage than others.

It's because we live in a racist country, as sad as it is. Unfortunately, regarding missing persons, I think, and this is just my own belief, so don't shoot me, that when a black person goes missing or is murdered, law enforcement and the media don't find it shocking or appalling. However, when someone white turns up missing or runs away from her fiancee, suddenly it's on the evening news and people are writing books about it. The value of human life is not equal across the races and that's totally f-ed up. (And I'm considered white).

There is no wrong answer here. But it is appropiate for the issue to be brought up. The article also mentions the problem of this being that still the majority of News Directors for news networks are white and many of the directors only think to over cover stories that only certain groups are interested in.
