First of all, I'd like to thank JackG for upgrading my status to "writer" here at Clubfreestyle.com. It's a great opportunity to let others know what I'm doing here in Chicago to promote the Freestyle movement. I'd also like to thank The Santana Twins, Ashley, Willie Valentin, Andrea Martin and the other artists and producers who have expressed interest in getting me their material and/or be interviewed for the program.

"Wake Up Dancing" is broadcast live from Chicago on WLUW (88.7 FM) from 6am-9am CST Friday mornings. The program is webcast on www.wluw.org and wwwshoutcast.com. If you go to shoutcast.com, conduct a search for WLUW, then click on the "tune in live" icon. I also take calls at 1-312-591-8870 and requests here at Clubfreestyle.com or my personal e-mail address. Here's this week's recap...

At 6:00am, I played the second half of Kid Heartbreak's "Bronx Tale" CD. The nice thing about this CD is that it showcases both new and old school Freestyle cuts. For the old school lovers, I'll go back to Tony "Boom Boom" Badea's classic Freestyle mixes this coming Friday.

At 6:30am, I went into Joey Kidd with "One and Only' off of the Dance Trip 2000 compilation, Shana..."I Want You" ( for Rookie in Philly), "Cosita Linda" by the MP Boyz (Georgie Porgie & Tony "Boom Boom" Badea), and India..."Dancing On the Fire".

The 7am hour started off with Cynthia's Medley. Afterwards I commented on the Mic Mac situations in which Cynthia and Johnny O wound up leaving the label due to differences with the label. I also spoke of how the label continued to make money off of the artists with remix CDs, etc. without giving the artists proper compensation. The information I used was gathered from previous Johnny O and Cynthia interviews.

After the medley, I played Safire's "Don't Break My Heart" and spoke of the upcoming duet with Cynthia which I found out about here. I promised listeners that I would do what I could to get my hands on the new Safire material (I'm going to need help). After Safire, it was Elissa..."Back To Me", George Lamond..."Lately", and a cut off of the GL CD..."Como Loco". Brenda K. Starr's salsa version of "I Still Believe" followed along with The Force..."Promise Me", First Class..."My Sweet Rose" and Willie Creso with "Where Have You Gone To".

At 8am, it was time for "Words and Music" with Alez Zuniga of Latin Nation speaking of the state of Freestyle, his future plans and his early Chicago connections. We also talked about the goofball promoter who ripped everyone off this past summer with a phantom freestyle event. I expect to post a transcript of my interviews here...soon.
During the interview I played: "No Puedes Mas"..."Nunca"...Eres Mi Vida" and "Time Has Shown" by Latin Nation.

The final half hour featured Rockell..."What U Did 2 Me", Marisa Lopez..."I Can't Promise You Love", Cynthia..."Save Your Love For Me" and Angel Clivilles with "Show Me-2000".

The show was a nice interactive effort thanks to Paresh, Freestylegoddes, Bassy555, Makeyadance, FreestyleKitty, exgroove, Law2k1, GregK, rookie, er the FS child, Andrea, JackG, and lilitaliana, who I heard from through the phones, e-mail and postings here Clubfreestyle.com.

This Friday, I expect to air an interview with actor John Leguizamo to mark the release of his latest film with Martin Lawrence and Danny Devito. Post your requests, comments and criticisims here, or in the "Shoutouts, etc." page.

Thanks again to JackG for the upgrade.

Respectfully,
Harv Roman

Yo Harv, I just finished talking to my cousin Jeannie & we are in the middle of cutting a deal. I want to re-release her song "Runaway" on 12" vinyl along with possibly 3 other artist. I want to do a 4 song E.P.. I have 1 song already mastered & ready to be pressed so I just need 3 more. Jeannie's is ready also since it was previously released, so now I would just need to buy 2 more songs. Any artist out there have a song that is already mastered & ready to be sold??? Harv, I will send you a copy of it as soon as I get the other 2 songs. I still get emails for Jeannie's "Runaway" 12".

OH DAYUM Harv............................

WOW! You big time now!! CONGRATS! I'm hoping things go right for once this Friday and maybe I'll finally hear your entire show. I look forward to the John Leguizamo interview. Did anyone go see his show that he did a couple years back? Anyways I like this guy only the movie PEST gets on my nerves. I've seen it a million times. The kitties love that corny @ss movie. Corina will find this very interesting. It's funny cause I see her talk to her lil friends about Harv's show, the freestyle songs you've played per her request and they look at her like she's crazy cause they have no idea what freestyle is. Cori's request for this Friday is "I'll be loving you" Collage. She'll be singing at the top of her lungs. HAHAHA she's such a cutey. Oh and it's been a while since we've heard some hip house. How about some Twin Hype? Thank You Harv.

I've seen Leguizamo perform live at least three times here in Chicago. First it was at the Briar Street Theatre to see "Spic-O-Rama" right before I was scheduled to meet and interview him at the Third Coast coffee shop. The second time I saw him was again at "Spic-O-Rama" but this time with a group of about 15 from my Boys and Girs Club. He invited us to go, asked us to stay, and afterwards, he stuck around for Q & A and pictures with the teens.

A few years later I saw him at the Schubert-or was it the Goodman Theatre to see him in "Freak". This was before he did the show in New York. He previewd it here, then did some re-writing before Broadway. The cool thing was, as I was waiting for my date to come back from the washroom, he entered the lobby (on the sneak), recognized me, said hello and went back to his room. it was strange because by this time, he was rather "big" and he really didn't have to stop and say hello.

This was also the show in which he bared his bottom-to the delight of my date. Was this the show that you saw? Did you see Mr. Leguizamo's "bums"? My date remarked "He has skin like a baby!"

LMAO@ Harv (date remark). Nah I didn't catch any of his shows. I know he came to town and I wanted to see him but never worked out.
