Greetings from Chicago! Before I begin, I'd like to express my sorrow for those who have been personally effected by the Tragedy on Tuesday...you all continue to be in our thoughts here in Chicago. I know a few people who have lost loved ones and nothing I can say will diminish what you are going through...just know that you are all in my prayers.

Back on September the 7th, I began the show with a Freestyle Mix at Six courtesy of Kool Kutt Chaos -AKA- Make Ya Dance. I met him just the night before he was in town hooking up with FreestyleKitty and Felix the Cat. Chaos provided me and my listeners with a nice mix of mostly new and some classic Freestyle cuts. Nicely done.

After the mix, I played the dance remxed version of "The One I Gave My Heart To" by the late Aaliyah. This was the morning after her wake so I provided some coverage...After Aaliyah, I played...

Robin Fox..."I See Stars"
April..."Someone To Hold"
Nicole Daniels..."Forever"

At 7am, the playlist included...
Georgie Porgie..."Life Goes On" (from the Music Plant's "House Sessions" compilation)
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games"
Luis Damon..."Time and Time Again" (by request for Vero)
Legends of Style..."We Are The Ones" (by request for Paresh)
Safire and Cynthia..."Can You Stand The Rain" (picking up steam)
GiGi D'Agostino..."I'll Fly Away" (by request for Tim)
Legacy..."Girls Do It Just For Fun" (by request for Paresh)
Solid..."Lovin' You" (by request for Sexyangel329, who requests, but doesn't listen!?)

Can you imagine that? Five requests out of six songs, can you dig it? I don't even remember what I was talking about. I was too busy running from the phones to the computer and back!

At 8am, I went into the Freestyle Flashback File for a "Words and Music" interview segment with De La Mor. The half-hour segment with Madeline Martinez and Sandy Canales shed some light on the Chicago Freestyle scene of the early 90s. De La Mor was struggling for recognition and financial success while battling the promoters of the time who just wanted Chicago acts to show up and perform-no fee required. The girls just wanted some respect...which they eventually received, but soon broke up afterwards. During the interview, I played...

De La Mor..."Hard To Let Go"
De La Mor..."Always On My Mind"
De La Mor..."Latin Lover"

After the interview, it was off to Johnny O land with his megamix...
Bomb..."Can You Dig It" (produced by White Knight and featuring samples taken from the Warriors movie)
Brenda K. Starr..."Hold Me" and
Body & Style..."Listen To My Cries"...

By the way, I got an e-mail from C-Jay, our first communication in almost 12 years!

Thanks to Paresh, Vero, Tim, and Sexyangel329 for the calls and support!

On Friday, September 14th, 2001, a very somber edition of 'Wake Up Dancing" aired. It was just a couple of days after the Tragedy On Tuesday and I didn't know f I should carry on with a regular show, or somehow try and pay tribute to those who are suffering...I decided ti try and do both...

6am...Tony "Boom Boom" Badea returned to his Mix at Six, followed by...

Marvin Gaye..."The National Anthem" (my all time favorite version recorded at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game. Second favorite version? Wayne Messner at the NHL All-Star Game at the United Center in 1991)

After the anthem, I gave my condolences to those in mourning, and read some newspaper accounts on the latest regarding the Tragedy. Afterwards, it was time for the show theme as suggested by Paresh and reacted to by several others...THE LEGENDS OF STYLE. For the rest of the show, I was only to play Freestyle cuts by the original Legends of Style as featured on the 1995 Critical Records release "We Are The Ones". Namely: George Lamond, Joey Kid, Coro, Cynthia, Judy Torres, Brenda K. Starr and Tony Moran. Throughout th show I gave information and phone numbers for those who wanted to help with the cause. Musically, I tried to eep the spirits up and motivated with:

Legends of Style..."We Are The Ones"
Brenda K. Starr..."What You See Is What You Get" (from her 1987 album, that makes her the Senior member of the Legends)
Joey Kid..."Everything I Own"

7am: George Lamond..."Without You" (recorded live at the 1990 Pan American Festival, it's a killer cut, the crowd was nuts)
Safire and Cynthia..."Can You Stand The Rain" (ironically, it was raining in New York)
Coro..."Where Are You Tonight"
Marvin Gaye..."Anthem"

After this I spoke of the hardships that Artie Rodriguez and Alex Zuniga are going through, we're still praying...

Judy Torres..."Back Into My Arms Again"
Tony Moran..."Dance With Me"

The 8 O'Clock hour featured an interview with Rudy of Los Atrevidos, who gave a first hand account of the Tuesday happenings from an East Coast perspective. It was a powerful segment, and sometimes difficult to get through. Thanks, Rudy!

During the interview I played:
George Lamond..."Bad Of The Heart" the original Ligosa Version
Cynthia..."Thinking About You"
Joey Kid..."Broken Promises"

After the interview it was,
The Legends of Style..."We Are The Ones"
Judy Torres..."You're My Everything" (what a killer slojam)
George Lamond and Brenda K. Starr..."No Matter What"
Coro..."Falen Angel"
Toyn Moran and Safire..."Some Things Never Change"

It was a tough show, but I got a couple of calls telling me that they were happ that I was stickngto the Freestyle format and not a tribute type of format. I did talk about the tragedy and how we could help, but I also stuck to the Freestyle.

Thanks to those who helped wih the Legends of Style theme with requests...

Paresh, GatoSancho, Kenny Guido, FreestyleMom, Freestyle Diva,FreestyleKitty and orgntrl1. Also thanks to AlexisAna, fanatic Joe, Juan, Brighton Park Dave and Tina for checking in...

On Friday the 21st, I pretty much played the best of my interviews mixed with music. Iwas busy off the air catching up on my "real life" job responsibilities to concentrate too muc on my show. However, I did receive calls from Tim, who wanted to ear anything from the Freestyle 2K1 collection and Vero, who asked for Soraya's 'I Never Loved You". I tried to juggle everything and the result was...

Tony's Mix at Six
Marvin Gaye..."National Anthem"
Jennifer Lopez..."Love Don't Cost A Thing" (real long mix)
Nick Colon..."Release Me" (he was in town and e-mailed me, but we couldn't connect)
Elissa..."Back To Me"
George Lamond..."Without You" (Valentin Mix)
Lil Suzy..."Take Me In Your Arms-2000"

At 7am, I replayed a Kidbit fro the "Club Kids On The Radio" as they interviewed Chicago 3 girl group "Scandelle Us"...
"SOS For Love" and "Money Can't Buy Me, Love"

Afterwards:
Cynthia and Safire..."Can You Stand The Rain"
D'Zyre..."Games of Love" (for Vero)
Cynthia and Johnny O..."Dream People"

At 8am I played an interview with Judy Torres and at 8:30 I replayed the Ashley interview, part one. The music included:

Judy Torres..."Come Ino My Arms"
Artie Rodriguez and Judy Torres..."A Man With Dream"
Judy Torres.."For All Seasons"

After the first interview, I played Willie Valentin's 2K1 Freestyle Megamix and then it was the interview with Ashley.
