Radio Personality : WCEV 1450 AM Chicago
As I write this Freestyle radio recap, I'm anxiously awaiting this Friday's edition of "Wake Up Dancing"! Why? B-Cuz this Friday-on a live celebrity hotline conversation...Safire!
"Wake Up Dancing" is a Freestyle and Latin dance music and interview program which airs Friday mornings from 6am to 9am Central on Chicago's WLUW (88.7 FM). The program is also webcast on www.wluw.org and www.shoutcast.com. The Safire interview is expected to be conducted at 8am Central, 9am East Coast and 6am on the West Coast.
Now, on with the recap...
As always, on Friday the 17th, I started the show off with a Freestyle megamix courtesy of Tony "Boom Boom" Badea, who may have retired from live mixing and music production, but his tapes live on...after the mix I played:
Tamar Braxton..."I Don't Wanna"
Loraine McKane..."Let The Night Take The Blame"
Georgie Porgie..."Love Story" (Georgie has been off performing in Italy)!
Charlie Rock..."True Love" (from the compilation "Freestyle's Elite" released in 1996.
At this point, I received a call (long distance) from MakeYaDance in Texas! He didn't even call collect! Thanks for checking in!
At 7am it was:
InEffect featuring Eric G. and Armante..."Here I Go Again"
A Cutting Freestyle Medley featuring:
Safire..."Let Me Be The One"
Coro..."Can't Let You Go" and
Corina..."Temptation"
Hey, I had very little sleep Thursday night and I thought that I could get away with playing "long songs", but noooooooooo listener's had other ideas...
Expose..."Point Of No Return" (the remix off of their greatest hits CD)
Sweet Sensation..."Take It While It's Hot" (by request for Juan)
Body and Style...''Listen To My Cries" (by request for Vero)
Corina..."Summertime" (by request for Paresh)
Angel Clivilles..."Show Me" (by request for Tim)
Check it out, four requests in a row...take that!
I then introduced a new three girl group from Chicago called "Scandelle Us" and played a cut off of their yet to be released CD. They recently performed at my block party and I expect them to do well!
Scandellle Us..."SOS For Love"
Elissa..."Back To Me" (my favorite cut off of Willie Valentin's 2k1, CD1)
Exo..."Why Did You Do It" (by request for angel329)
At 8am, it was time for "Words and Music". This week I played part two of my interview with Conneticutt Freestyle Bombshell Ashley. This segment looked at the real life Ashley-married with kids and a job. She also spoke of meetng Safire...without realizing it! During the interview, I played:
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games"
Ashley..."The Only One"
Nathan..."I Need You"
After the interview...
Cynthia..."save Your Love For Me"
Brenda K. Starr..."Hold Me" (Vero likes this song)!
Gigi D'Agostino..."I'll Fly Away" (By request for Tim)
It was a good show and I'd like to thank the following for checking in via clubfreestyle.com, harvroman@hotmail.com or (312) 591-8870:

Lil Suzy..."Take Me In Your Arms-2000"
And More..."You'll Never Find Another Love"
At 7am, I announced that I would use the rest of the show to review the new Safire full length CD. I found mine at the Coconuts located at 1520 North Damen in Chicago-they only ordered two copies-now they only have one left!
Georgie Porgie..."In My Life" (from the Music Plant and Terry Hunter collection-House Sessions)
Safire..."Don't Break My Heart-2002" (the Freestyle Mix)
Safire..."Thinking of You" (the salsa mix...I think this is gonna be my favorite)!

Papo Sanchez y Fuerza y Alma..."Mirame" (an excellent salsa tune on the Music Plant label, they performed at my block party-Thanks!)
Safire and Cynthia..."Can You Stand The Rain" (vero called to say that she really didn't like this track, not freestyle enough...I agreed that it could be more energetic and not so laid back...musically. Vocally, I like the work that Safire and Cynthia put together)...Did you know that Safire was responsible for Cynthia's audition back in the Mic Mac days? It's true!
Nick Colon..."Release Me" (Nick e-mailed me!)
Scandellle Us..."Money Can't Buy Me, Love"
Denine..."I Remember" (by request for the reawakened FreestyleKitty)
Safire..."Eyes Of A Stranger" (as recommended by frestygal Randi)
At 8am, it was off to another edition of "Words and Music" I chose to play an interview with K7. Kinda like a Happy Birthday/Welcome back to Chicago thing. K7 talked about meeting Cab Calloway, his move away from Freestyle music and the fact that TKA went on performing without him during his K7 solo days-he wasn't real happy. I played:
K7..."Move it Like This"
TKA..."Maria"
K7..."Come Baby Come"
K7..."Hi De Ho"
After the interview "Wake Up Dancing" continued with:
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games" (she logged on to say hello)
Safire and Tony Moran..."Some Things Never Change" (a great duet)
Beyond Ordinary..."Regressa Amor" (by request for Paresh)
Johnny O Medley... (the collection escapes me, but I only paid 6.99 at Virgin for it)
Rockell..."What U Did 2 Me" (she's also at the Energy Blast-I heard that she did well, but her outfit left things...out).
Anyhow, I'll try it again this Friday the 31st...with special guest Safire!
