Radio Personality : WCEV 1450 AM Chicago
Hi, everyone! My WebTV is alive and kicking-for awhile things were not so good, but I'm a happy guy now so here's what you may have missed if you happen to sleep between 6am and 9am CST on Friday mornings!
On July 20th, things went rather well as FreestyleKitty, Fred Nice, law2k1, Jim, Paresh, Tim, Nelson Maldonado, Christina, Archie and Tybless all found a way to contribute to the show. Thanks for motivating me to an excellent Friday morning!
At 6am, as usual, Tony "Boom Boom" Badea's "Mix at Six"...followed by...
Marshall Jefferson..."Move Your Body"
Troy Guy..."Inside Your Love"
Marano and Phillips..."How Could You..."
Laissez Faire..."In Paradise"
I then slowed things down a bit with Johnny O and "Kiss and Say Goodbye". It turned out to be a wise decision as Tim called on a payphone to thank me for playing the song. He thought that it was a nice change of pace.
At 7am...Eileen Flores..."Touch Me With Your Heart"
John Tapia..."My One and Only" (for la2k1)!
Legit and Artie Rodriguez..."I Had It All"
Doctor's Cat..."Feel The Drive" (for Jim-wanting to hear that old school, pre-Freestyle Flava)
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games" (an old school fan called to say that he liked the new Ashley-and then he requested Tina B)
Tina B..."Honey To A Bee"
George Lamond..."Love's Contagious-the 7:47 Freestyle mix" (by request for Tim)
Issac..."In My Heart" (for Veronica)
Shana..."Falling Slowly"
At 8am, it was time for "Words and Music", the half-hour music and interview segment. This week I featured two members of the "Truth Team", the anti-tobacco TV people. I didn't play Freestyle during the interview, so let's jump to 8:30am-after the interview...
Madonna..."Holiday"
Willie Valentin..."How I Love Thee"
Donna Williams w/George Lamond and Joey Kid..."True Love Never Dies" (by request)
Eileen Flores..."Can You Find a Way?" (another ballad, by request)
Fred Nice..."More Than Anything"
It was a nice show with plenty of callers and e-mails. It was also cool to play some new cuts from the Flipside compilation and from Willie Valentin's CD...thanks to Alfredo Cardona, Ashley and Wille Valentin for the new stuff. Thanks Tybless for offering me the new TKA material...hopefully I'll get it soon!
Now fastforward a week to July 27th, 2001...this show added listener Juan to the regular cast of characters which included Tim, Brenda, Pedro, Jim, Tim, law2k1, Gino as in Caporale, Latif, JackG, Ashley, Paresh and Joel. thanks for listening and participating.
Meanwhile, musically at 6am...Tony's Mix...
Expose..."Megamix" (it's on the "B" side of the 12 inch vinyl "Season's Change")
Mikaila..."So In Love With Two" (she's 14-what's the deal with 2 boyfriends)
Gillette..."Short Short Man"
Georgie Porgie..."Baby Come Back to Me" (his first cut was freestyle!)
At 7am...Judy Torres..."Back In My Arms Again"
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games" (we're gonna make this a hit)
Klien and MBO..."Dirty Talk" (old school request by Tim or was it Jim?)
I then went into a set of "2K1" remixes...
Johnny O..."Highway Of Love" (disappointing)
Safire..."Don't Break My Heart" (the Freestyle mix as recommened by Sandman-I might have played Tony Moran's anthem, but it's over 11 minutes)
Cynthia...Change On Me (nice but the original rules)
After that...Johnny O..."Don't Give Up On Love"
Exo..."Silent Kiss" (from Willie's CD)
Son By Four..."Puro Dolor" (I played this to hype the fact that Luis Damon is now the main man in Son By Four!)
At 8am, "Words and Music" featured Luis Damon. We talked about his Freestyle and Salsa careers, his Chicago connections, and his future plans...who would have known? This interview was taped in 1998, and included his songs...
"Should've Never Let You Go" (Cynthia on backing vocals)
"Me Niego Estar Solo"
"Para Estar Contigo" (with Olga Tanon)
"Time and Time Again" (from "Freestyle Lives" on Fever Records)
After the interview, it's Safire with "Love Is On Her Mind" (don't forget it's on her new CD single)
Dino Caporale..."Destiny" (thanks for the e-mail)
TKA..."Maria" (by request for Juan)
Jocelyn..."Come To Me" (nice cut on the new Flipside compilation, I've got to do a review)!
I ended the show with a snippet of the interview that I conducted with actor John Leguizamo he's in Chicago until August 2nd, but is people say that he's too busy to schedule an interview with me. It's a shame, because we hooked up in 1992, and again in 1996 or so, but nooooooooo not n 2001. I know it's not his fault!
I lifted the interview segment from an interview compilation that I created for lilitalina as a trivia prize! Trust me, soon!
