i flipped on the radio today, and as i went to B96 I heard Temptation by Corina!at like 2 in the afternoon. could they actually be going back to more variety??!!!I HOPE SO!!:spin
Hey girl...isn't kool to finally here that again?
Yesterday I heard "French Kiss" w/Lil Louie,
"If You Leave Me Now" w/Jaya, the other day,
"Love Me Forever" w/Trilogy...and B96 is giving
away a "Flashback CD" w/all the faves!!!🙂
Among many others, Last Night at 7:45pm, they played
"Bad of the Heart"! How SWEET THAT WAS!!! 😉
They are promoting the "Flashbacks" this weekend cuz
they have a Special (2CD) Giveaways full of "Flashbacks"!
So this was probably the best Weekend in Chicago Radio!!
Also as Mario5starr mentioned on another post, their most
Popular DJ/and ON AIR Personality, who brought Freestyle
in the open back in da day, Tim "spinnin" Schoemer
is now the one of the Main DJ RESIDENTS at Chromium Nite Club,
the ONLY CLUB that has brought us Freestyle Acts this year,
such as Cynthia, Safire, GL, TKA, LisaLisa, JohnnyO, etc.
This could definately be a big Comeback for Freestyle in
Chicago, so JACK.... WE'RE ON IT!! The calls havc BEGUN!!
It also pays to rub shoulders with the Right People...
My job requires me to meet alot of Concert/Club promotors...
and I'm always making suggestions...with FREESTYLE BACK ON
THE AIR...This May Be Easier!!! 😉
right on heidee....good job girl, keep whispering freestyle sweet nothings into their ears!! 😉
although this sudden rush of freestyle trax on b96 has more to do with their promotion for the flashback giveaway than their re-commitment to freestyle, it is very kool indeed to hear freestyle on prime hours once again at b96. it is another step in the right direction however. think about it...first, no freestyle except for the mix shows here and there, then they start playing a flashback track (which almost always is a freestyle track) daily at 8:30 a.m. on their top-rated morning show...the response is so good they decide to make flashback cd's and give them away...that response is so overwhelming that they decide to do another flashback cd giveaway and encorporate that with a flashback weekend to promote the cd giveaway.
to me, thats major progress...from nothing to major airtime, even though it may only be temporary in terms of the amount they have played this weekend...still, its awesome to see that happen.
i must give major props to b96, todd cavenaugh and tim schommer, but ultimately it is the people who turn on the radio's that force changes...i also must mention and give love to energy radio 92.7&5 cuz i feel their station and format have forced b96 to take notice. forever b96 had the teen and early 20's crowd in the bag..that was their strength. that was also becuz of their format at that time which consisted of a major commitment to freestyle. since they pulled freestyle from their format long ago and turned more urban/hip-hop, the teens and young adults who liked the dance music turned their ears to energy radio, who came out with a format very similar to that of b96 in the late 80's and early to mid-90's...that being dance/club music with freestyle. since energy radio started getting some of the b96 listeners who wanted that flava, b96 finally had a little competition, which it did not really have since the old z95.
with competition comes change and here we are...these changes, while maybe not permanent now...do show that they see and hear what the listeners want and where they go. it also shows that they are actively gauging the general interest of their own listeners to see if this is what they want to hear...so be heard people...call or email into them and let them know that you love what they are doing. while they might not actually say "tell us if this is what you want", these moves only mean one thing..
THEY ARE LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE!! if someone else was not playing dance music down the dial and getting support, they would have no reason to even do what they have done thus far...our voices do count!!
Long time no post and then you post a book! hehehe Good to see you and Congrats to all the Chicago listeners who got to enjoy the freestyle on B96 again! :yeey
WELL SAID MARIO! DON'T YA WORRY! I DO MY PART, YOU DO
YOURS!! LOL! IT NEVER HURTS TO GIVE YOUR OPINION AND
SUGGESTIONS TO THOSE WHO CAN ACTUALLY MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
EVERYONE NEEDS TO PUT THEIR TWO CENTS IN...THE MORE
THE MERRIER!!! IT'S THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE ULTIMATE
PULL ON THIS! THERE WILL ALWAYS BE RADIO STATIONS
BEING COMPETITIVE, BUT ONE, CAN ACTUALLY GO DOWN
IN HISTORY FOR PLAYING FREESTYLE. IF THEY WANT TO
WIN THEIR LISTENERS OVER THE OTHER STATIONS THEN
THEY'LL DARE TO BE DIFFERENT AND GIVE THE PEOPLE
WHAT THEY WANT! BUT WE GOTTA DO OUR PART, AND LET
IT BE KNOWN TO THEM! MARIO, YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT
ENERGY...I APPLAUD THEIR EFFORTS, AS WELL. EXCEPT
THAT NOT THE WHOLE CITY CAN GET THE SIGNAL...SO
THEY LISTEN TO B96, AND B96 GET'S MORE PUBLICITY!
BUT REGARDLESS, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!
SO LIKE MARIO SAID...VOICE YOUR VOTE! 😉
A Few words? *Goin back to count* Ummmmm thats more then a few Mario! LOL!!! Very informative though! Thank you for sharing!
I'm good though! Thank you for asking! How's about you? And the studio work...how's that going?
Here's a story about calling the radio stations...I called the one here that would be the most likely to play freestyle...the guy I spoke to was the so called program director...he was very rude to me on the phone...he had the nerve to ask me if I was smoking some funny stuff! GRRRRRRRRRR Needless to say they didn't play my request and ummm he's no longer there! 😱 Guess the station manager didn't appreciate that comment being made to one of the listeners! :heee
