Good Job, well; me along with mark and Tarp is got our hands full with getting DC stations like WPGC to put dance/freestyle back in rotation. In DC Hip Hop, R&B and Modern Rock has such a strangle hold on the DC music scene.🙁

It is kind of funny how you guys mention the freestyle songs they just played on B96. It is the same songs they played back when they were into playing freestyle in rotation. They used to play, "Dream Boy/Dream Girl", Stevie B, George Lamond, "Bad OF The Heart" (only and nothing else), Cynthia "Change of Me" ( and nothing else), Lisette Melendez. When they stopped, then they started playing freestyle again, it is the same songs, over and over. They never buy a clue. You can call them all you want and they will still play the same ol freestyle songs.

Listen to energy 92.7. Rockell has hit them hard with her remake and freestyle, of Tears. You hear both. Now the type of freestyle songs I have heard on Energy, are nothing compared to B96. They are more clublike, or underground freestyle such as Body and Style, "Listen To My Cries", Johnny O, CORO, Lisette Melendez, Judy Torres, LAW and Legacy ( can you believe it? they played Legacy).

SO yes, we can be excited that B96 is again playing freestyle, but they need to buy a clue and give the new artists props and play their music. This is why freestyle goes "underground" or dies so to speak. There are plenty of quality freestyle songs like Willie Valentin, who never got air play in Chicago, only on the freestyle radio shows like Harv Roman, but not on the mainstream like B96.

Okay, Mario wrote a book, so can I! ha ha ha

I agree with you completely, if B96, ever plays freestyle,
it usually is the same songs repeatedly! If they play Cynthia,
all they play is Change on Me or Dreamboy/Dgirl, if they
play GL, they play Bad of the Heart, or Where Does that leave Love.
TKA, Scars of Love or Maria. Etc., Same story! It never changes!
These artists have more albums & better songs too!

As does, Rockell. Hell, the first time I heard Rockell was on Energy!
I saw her performance at an Energy event, then I bought her CD.
It was Energy, that was the ONLY station in Chicago that
ever played "Feel the Music" with TKA! And they brought
TKA to promote that song! Sooo, were was B96 then????

I agree, Energy gets it! They know there stuff! But, it
can't compete with the publicity that B96 has established
in so many years!! They were the Biggest Station in Chicago
for years! Until KissFm came along!!! B96 has this whole
Era of Freestyle Under their Wing, and THAT to THEM is ONE
over KissFM & even Energy! The Matter of the fact is, B96
in Mainstream in Chicago, A Major City, and Freestyle & their
Artists cannot lose this Opportunity to be mentioned &
recognized by this station! This is the biggest step B96
has taken in Years to bring back Freestyle & I think we
should take it, who knows what can come out of it?

greg, i agree as far as there is some good freestyle out there now that is new, but you have to also understand it is business as well and that b96 owns their target market and aside from energy and kissfm, they have no real competition. with the emergence of energy and now kissfm and them getting support for their formats it might have forced their hand to experiment a bit. kissfm does not play freestyle and while energy has a following and does play freestyle, they are much to small to ever give b96 a serious run for their money, so for b96 to play ANY freestyle at all is not only good, but for their purposes, not necessary for them at all to do. they have survived and strengthened all these years without freestyle and if they continued to ignore the freestyle crowd they really would not lose much here.

so heidee, i agree...to play even old skool is major...for them. they might be just guaging the general interest of the listeners and if they respond. as ive said before also...while at these chromium shows, many peeps are in their early twenties and have never been exposed to freestyle before and are seeing and hearing the likes of G.L., T.K.A and others for the very first time. so not only are we getting to give us old skoolers some great times with our favorites, we are also gaining new listeners and the younger generation of fans. i look at this as baby steps for b96. maybe they are trying it out with the SURE thing they know people will recognize before weening in anything new people might be questioning as to what they are playing. i agree with the way they are doing this, for our own sake becuz freestyle is not followed out here like it once was and audiences are very different too, maybe the new stuff out there now would not be received well and b96 would just say "told ya so" and pull it once again and then its over. the response for the flashback promotion has been tremendous, so it has worked. what their plan is from here is not yet known, but jumping right from no freestyle to putting in some new stuff most of their target audience has never heard of probably is probably deemed much to risky at this point for them. i am just grateful for any freestyle at all... 🙂

actually, Energy is a terrible station dance music-wise. b96 doesn't play new freestyle there are very few new freestyle songs with the hit potential of the "Dreamboy/Dreamgirl" "Bad of the Heart" and other songs like that. Energy can be less picky on music. B96 sticks with the old freestyle because that is proven hit music that everyone in chicago has heard. although i do believe "tears" by Rockell, given enough airplay has hit potential. so i'm not surprised to see energy playing it at all.
now about "feel the music" by TKA, B96 didn't think it had much potential (an attitude they have towards most dance music). but "feel the music" wasn't a freestyle song anyway. back to energy 92.7, their ratings stink, they STILL don't play enough freestyle, and the station will change format soon (no longer dance music).

SO MANY PEEPS out here in Chicago have been calling for Freestyle requests and ratings got sooo high now that EDDIE and JOBO playing a flashback every morinig at 8:30am. B96 is trowing a Flashback party with TKA/k7/GL on the DEC 20..so many people want to go..I'm sure this party is going to sell out..this party is going to be off the hook! YA FREESTYLE is back in Chicago by popular demand!

You said it, Freestyle Is Back BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!
Regardless of WHICH STATION plays it MORE OR LESS,
The POINT is THEY ARE PLAYING IT, and that's ALL THAT MATTERS!
That they get airplay! Period.

Well B96 may be playing the older Freestyle music but what about the new. I don't call that much support. They lost me as a listener some years back. Energy 92.7/5 has got me hooked. I wish they would play some new Freestyle though.

they just played one of tim freestyle mixes! it was pretty good, so i recorded it
