Hey everyone I want to find out everyones input on Hip Hop calling there music freestyle when in fact the real freestyle music is not being recognized because when freestyle is mention they automatically think Hip Hop. Express yourself in this thread.

Wait Crazy... don't slam the door until I get in there with you. :mad

Are you kidding me???? Hip Hop being referred to as Freestyle music. Are you f*cking kidding me. I'm still trying to accept the comparison that hip hop is considered music at all.

Sorry, hate to affend hip hop lovers... I hate the thug/hard hip hop and that's what I'm referring too. sorry.

Hip Hop music is not referred to as "Freestyle". Don't get confused here. The term "Freestyle" in Hip Hop/Rap solely refers to "rhyming" without thinking of what your actually saying, but with the proper skills, half the shit you rhyme about makes sense. Think, the "Funkmaster Flex Mix Show" cd's. Lil' Kim, Foxy, etc., all freestyle over a beat, how much of it is actually "freestyle" we don't know. But I don't see a conflict here with the term what-so-ever.

LMAO I see the conflict clearly, I don't think anyone really needed a lesson on the text of which Hip hop uses the word.. What I assume where all talking about is the fact that if you put the word freestyle on any search engine you'll get mostly Rap sites and or rap forums. Secondly when you walk into most record stores and mention freestyle.. it's like huh.. unless you tell them you mean Freestyle Dance.. ugh I hate that. At least I know that's been my experience unless I hit Tower records.

I would think & hope that Freestyle as we
know it Inspired them to Take It to the
Next Level..but they should then give some
background on the real Freestyle to give
props to this style. Then of course Free-style
of music means No Style..just Free sound..beats..

Aiight, so I did some research on the term, Freestyle. Freestyle is used in many ways, whethter it be biking, swimming, or rhyming. Judge for yourselves:

freestyle
(v) Freestyling is when an MC flows with lyrics right of the top of his or her head. It is inpromptu and spontaneous and only the most creative rhymers can do it well. It is also a kind of competition between MC's because you have to be good to bust a good freestyle. It helps to keep MCs on their toes too, because its is like practice. "We gonna do a little freestyle for y'all, and it go like this" -- Schoolly D. (Cuttin' and scratchin' [??]).

We all know that Hip Hop was born way before Freestyle as we know it today. Of course there is going to be a conflict on KaZaa, Morpheus, etc. However, I'm referring to El Boricua's post. There is no major conflict with Hip Hop & Freestyle. The only "conflict" lies here, in Club Freestyle. Ask any African-American about Freestyle and they'll probably respond with, "Yo!" "You heard that new 50 Cent shit?" "It's hot, right?!" I don't expect any person of African-American background to know who the hell Cynyhia or Judy Torres is. It's a cultural thing. As for Tower Records, Virgin Records, etc., that's just ignorance on their part.

THE REASON WHY I SLAMMED THE DOOR IS BECAUSE I AGREE W/CARLITO AND DIDN'T WANT TO START ANY DRAMA....I WOULD'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT WHAT WE CALL FREESTYLE MUSIC IS A FORM OF DANCE MUSIC AND IT SHOULD'VE REMAINED THAT WAY....SOMEONE GAVE IT THE LABEL AND HENCE THERE IT IS....I LOVE THE MUSIC JUST THE SAME NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE CONSIDER TO CALL IT. BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION SO DON'T CRUCIFY ME FOR IT.

This is a touchy subject being mostly because freestyle as cf knows it has struggled with recognition or credit in the music industry.i understand boricua's point of veiw half the battle a genre has is defining itself and seperating itself from the competetion but at the same time in many FREESTYLE songs there has been freeflow or (rapping) on the record so yes we should make it clear in any way we can FREESTYLE is as it was formely called latin hip hop,and freestyln is free flow of words,we shouldnt hate on diffrent styles of music because of a misconception.I love music and dont want to have to choose. I :hpound MUSIC!ALSO if it helps any on this site we can consider rapping with no scripted words as FREE FLOW i dont know if it helps but it might catch on !

TOO LATE....THE TERM HAS BEEN AROUND FOR FAR TOO MANY YEARS FOR ANYONE TO TRY TO CHANGE IT NOW.

That is true but CF can refer to it differently. If only to soothe the drama.I love music no matter what its called as well.

i know what you're trying to say..but it's better off left alone and with that said i will now exit stage left forever! ciao!

I highly agree with you MZCRAZYBTCH. The problem should've been fixed YEARS ago. It's not even worth talking about it now. To continue with this would be a waste of time. I wish I had the authority to delete this thread. In the end, Rap is Rap, Hip Hop is Hip Hop and Freestyle is Freestyle. Next......

Let's confuse the situation even more by remembering that before it was called "freestyle", early freestyle records were called "Latin Hip-Hop".

Betty Lebron from Sweet Sensation talks on the Sweet Sensation Video and to the group as a Latin Hip Hop group.

In this world one thing can practically have so many names 😛

With that said...I call it "Co-Co Hot Monkey Sweaty Jungle Love Music" :stoned

That's true !!!

Freeez-IOU, Tina B-Honey to a bee and others in the early 80's were considered hip hop and not frestyle.

The "freestyle" term was born in the late 80"s.

So people since this discussion got deep. What's a good way to promote freestyle music without getting it confused with RAP???????
