Kosheen - Catch
Real mc coy - Operator
Taylor Dayne - Tell it to my heart
Spanish fly - I can see
Noel - Fallen angel

Do you guys consider these songs freestyle?

spanish fly "i can see" is freestyle😉

"Cold Heart Snake" is R&B Dance. It has typical New Jack Swing chords, no syncopation.

"Tell It To My Heart" has Freestyle syncopation and typical Freestyle chords.

Rather than argue my position on whether this is Freestyle or not, let me suggest that this song be described as something in between Expose' (Freestyle Pop) and The Jets (Dance Pop), but nowhere close to Paula Abdul.

Being that I know the OLD SCHOOL sound so well, I feel that I have to agree somewhat with Jason and Arturo on the Taylor Dayne song. Remember, at the time this song was popular (1987/88), the term 'FREESTYLE' didn't even exist ! You would hear this song right along side artists like Noel, The Cover Girls, Sweet Sensation, Judy Torres, etc ... NONE of these artists were considered 'freestyle' at the time -- the songs were simply labeled 'CLUB/DANCE' songs !!

If you actually LISTEN to the song, you WILL see that it's 'make-up' has all the basic 'old school freestyle' elements to it. The remixes were excellent as well, especially for "Prove Your Love", which in my opinion, was a better song. And one thing about Taylor Dayne, that woman could SING !

Funny thing about this song is, you can STILL hear it a lot today on different AC (Adult Contemporary) stations around the country.

Being from Philly, Q102 (the current crap top 40 station, but once GREAT dance station) USED to play the HELL out of this song 'back in the day', but you'll NEVER hear it on there now. However, the AC station B101.1 plays the song regularly and this station is a SOFT ROCK STATION. For some reason, this song has been able to stick around and STILL be on radio station's 'gold libraries', just NOT on the right types of stations -- GO FIGURE !

real mccoy's "operator" i consider PROGRESSIVE FREESTYLE...it has that complete feel in the production. but the vocals are in a form of euro music! that's just how i feel!😛

Is it?

There's this new R&B artist out of the UK posing like he's living a hip-hop lifestyle and perhaps he is. His Name is Craig David...and the name of his song is called, "Fill Me In". That my friends is freestyle, live on MTV and it's a Buzzworthy Video. Tell me what you guys think when you get a wiff of that.

Early leak on TKA's single...It's between a song called, "Feel The Music", and "Better Than The Rest". See you in a few weeks.
We are scheduled to appear at a show on June 8th at the World Trade Center sponsered by Latino Mix. Look into it.

what's the name of the freestyle/electro/bass mix of "operator"?
i've only heard the original euro version

THE ONLY TRACK THAT I CAN LABEL FREESTYLE WOULD HAVE TO BE SPANISH FLY'S "I CAN SEE."

REPLY TO TY:

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH BBOY/MARLON, THAT JOINT "FILL ME IN" BY CRAIG DAVID IS HOT. BUT, ALSO I NEVER GOT THE FREESTYLE VIBE FROM IT, IT IS TOO BAD THAT POWER DROPPED IT.

Dez:

or anyone else, I was reading Dez's post and he said 87/88 the term FREESTYLE didn't exist, I've been listening to freestyle since a long A$$ time ago,...since the mid 80's, and I always remember it being just Freestyle Music,...so when did people start using the term freestyle????? and why? I mean if it was labeled dance music before why didn't it just stay like that.

I also remember anotha term some people used to use to describe freestyle='Bubble Gum Music' can someone that knows answer my question, thanx!

ps. I always considered Taylor Daynes 'tell it to my heart' freestyle, the video was great too, with all that crazy hair, she really had the 80's kinda look in it.
