The sad trend continues....

Throb Records, located at 211 E. 14th st., has officially closed down today. Apparently the owner will not renew his lease. The landlord has raised it $450 per month, bringing the new total to $2,300. It began at $1,500 back in the day. It was at a steady $1,850 for some time, until recently. However, the online store (www.throb.com) and record label will continue. You can also contact aldo at aldo@throb.com if interested in buying in bulk at heavily discounted prices throughout November.

I suppose it will only be a matter of time before all used record stores are obsolete 🙁

ive been telling people this for a long time!!

my x dj parnter doesnt even want to open another record store because he knows records are not a big investment anymore.

i even stopped in my local DJ shop with him on Monday (music trends) and they dont have many records anymore either.

they did, however, have alot of used freestyle cds!!! i was in heavan!!!

Yeah, I heard about that this morning. It's probably a matter of a few years or so before all used record stores are obsolete.

Mad props for TOWER RECORDS for holding it down, although the prices aren't great...but BEST BUY is right behind.

DAMN!!! Throb was like a landmark for djs....I know this has got to be a real blow for people like myself who grew up in the lower east side and alphabet city.....wow🙁

Now that we're on the subject, is there anyone who knows if freestyle is still being sold at the Music Factory on Fordham?

Only some Metropolitan, Warlock/High Power, & a few other basic freestyle labels/songs (if u mean vinyl). That was about a year ago. It's a waste of time there.
