The Gay Lord of Freestyle
Hiya CFers!
After much thinking about my current situation, I am unfortunately making this post to announce my retirement from the club scene.
10 years ago, I went out with friends to celebrate one of them turning 21. We went to a club called "Bumpers" (it's since closed) and they had the music pumped sooo loudly, it sounded distorted coming from the speakers.
The next morning, I awoke with permanent damage to my ears. I now have tinnitus, a non-stop ringing or buzzing sound in my ears.
Because I didn't go to clubs that often, it wasn't much of an issue. However, since joining the online freestyle community, my attendance of shows has increased, which is no good for my ears. I tried using earplugs, but it doesn't really help.
Copa on Wednesday was the last straw, as my ears are still ringing from that show. The volume is slowly decreasing in the ringing, but it is still louder than it has been before. So as much as I hate to say it, Backdrafts on Saturday will be my last show. 🙁 I will be there to give support to the new schoolers one last time, and see everyone that I can. I will have earplugs in, so if you talk to me and I don't respond, give me a chance to take them out.
If I remember right, Backdrafts has a "backroom" where there are pooltables and the music isn't sooo loud. If it gets bad, I can run back there to give my ears a break.
Anytime there is a get together like a dinner, or beach party or whatever, I'm down for that, but the clubs are out. I'm only 35, and it is way too soon to lose my hearing. Especially when I have sooo much that I want to hear in the future (my guy taking his wedding vows with me, my kids' first words).
It was great meeting all of you at the shows, and thanks for giving me the memories that I have! It's been great. And at the next show, after Backdrafts, make sure you toss one back for me! 😉
Keep supporting the shows guys!
