And people still ask why...Freestyle isn't taken seriously by mainstream radio and major record labels!?!

If you tuned into Johnny's mixshow last night to hear the World Premiere of the Cynthia & Sa-Fire duet you will know exactly why!!!

You have 2 Freestyle legends, Divas - if you will. They both have the potential to create some excepetional Freestyle on their own but together on a duet, this project should have been even more powerful.

As soon as they decided to remake "CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN", a song that was perfect 15 years ago when New Edition originally recorded it - the project fell apart (at least in my eyes, anyways)...

I think myself and lot of other people were looking forward to ORIGINAL new Freestyle music by 2 of Freestyle's top stars together. The decision of doing a remake, especially of a song that was perfect in it's original form has cheapened the entire experience.

The end result - "CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN" by Cynthia & Sa-Fire sounded more like a rejected track from the SO-SO DEF BASS ALL STARS series then as the "Freestyle even of the new millenium"...

Truely disappointing - to say the least!!!

freestyle isnt radio friendly.......that was kinda harsh

In order for Freestyle to become radio friendly again - they need to avoid disasters such as "CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN" by Cynthia & Sa-Fire...

I would rather sit hear and listen to New Edition's version a million times over!

Rhoq man, seriously, you've gotta learn to chill the f*** out. I mean, trashing artists and saying their remake of an old song is the reason Freestyle isn't radio friendly is straight up RUDE! Why don't you go sing something if you think you can do better. 🙄 Man, people honestly have to think before they speak nowadays, and it seems as though people on this site forget to do that often. No offense to anyone specifc.

eluder, its not rude...its how he feels...u need to understand the frustrations of some fans...he was probabley hyped up for a great song, but he got dissapointed...like he said they had the potential to make a great record but to him they screwed it up!!! so i can understand him there

It is rude, there's nothing wrong w/saying he didn't like it, but saying that it's the reason why Freestyle isn't mainstream is rude if you ask me!

rhoq didn' trash either of the two girls, and he never said that this song and only this song is the reason why freestyle isn't mainstream.

🙄

That's cool, you have your views on what he said, and I have mine. Sorry, I generally tend to try to be polite no matter how angry I am about something. To each their own.

Well..the team behind this project believe that doing a successful remake will give them a better chance of getting radio airplay.

Like i said in a previous post, its not like like they redid 'Change one me' or "Boy i've been told"..the song is NOTHING like the original....if ya wanna kill the song because you don't like their vocals, or the production...thats one thing, but by saying its 'weak' simply because its a remake of a R&B hit from 15 yrs ago is kinda weak in my opinion.

I CAN'T WAIT TO GET A TASTE OF THE TRACK B/C OF THE WAY THAT SOME PEOPLE HERE ARE DOGGING IT MAKES IT SEEM THAT THE PRODUCTION WAS NASTY GARBAGE. SORRY TO SAY, BUT I DONT THINK THAT CAN BE THE CASE HERE.

Lack of Freestyle attention in NY? That sounds strange, I mean you guys have a 3hr show every Sunday, if that's the only playtime Freestyle gets in NY then I guess that is crap. We only get a 1hr show on Sundays here, but it does get a decent amount of playtime during the week, mind you it's mainly mainstream, but still better than nothing. I just see Rhoq's post as being a little offensive, like I said, everyone has their own views...

hmph

Everyone does have their own views correct so why are we angry when 1 person disagrees with your tastes. to each his own. we like what we like everyone is not the same. if one person aint feelin the song he has a right to state it without getting chewed up!!!!!😡

Sheesh, some of you don't seem to understand what I said... ahh well, I'm not losing any sleep over it. 🙄

Eluder - I respect what you had to say in response, but please allow me to clarify myself...I was not implying that this song in particular is the reason why Freestyle doesn't receive regular airplay on mainstream radio, but it is this type of track that has contributed to the deterioration of our music. I happen to like both Cynthia & Sa-Fire and I have nothing against them. As far as calling me rude, well let's just say that I have been called a lot worse things!!!

Johnny - I never said it was weak simply because it is a remake. I did say that this remake was unecessary simply because the original version was perfect. Now-a-days people remake songs left and right, just because. I have always thought that remaking a song is done with the intent of improving the song iteself. Freestyle remakes are a dime a dozen, but a GOOD Freestyle remake is rare. I think that for all of the Freestyle remakes out there, it would be a struggle to name more 10 (if that many) that are worth listening to...As I mentioned earlier this song sounded like a reject from the SO-SO DEF BASS ALL STARS series...

Rhoqstar..

I see whatcha sayin'..and dammit, i agree about the remake after remakes..in my opinion, i am tired of hearing a song then later finding out its a remake..whether freestyle or not. dang, whatever happened to writing a song and singing it..i have yet to hear that cynthia/safire joint..but i didnt think u were criticizing them two cuties(cindy & saf)..big ups to u for being honest, bro..
laterssssssss..

No worries Rhoq, if I misunderstood you then, my bad, but I just don't like people trashing artists' songs. I understand not liking em, but trashing em is not the way to show you dissapprove. If that's not what you were doing, then fine, it's over... 😉

i agree that it is a legitimate complaint.......i mean who did they collaborate with adam marano (the king of remakes).......fans want new stuff .................it would of been better if they remade change on me................new edition..come on now...who cares

Haven't heard it yet!

I agree the original song was "perfect", so I'm anxious to see what they did differently. And Kenny, if you feel old when Johnny mentions the hits from 15 years ago, how do you think I feel lol!
