If the Philly area people are serious about and truly want a Freestyle night - then start getting your money together.
A few weeks ago, RummyG, Fate and myself were talking about something similar. We came to the conclusion that although it's feasible, nothing can happen without financial resources. The thing about our city is that so many people claim that they love Freestyle, but when the time comes to put up or shut up - well, Freestyle receives little or no support.
Our goal for the Summer of 2003 is to get a DJ gig in one of the local bars around B & Allegheny. DJ Fate will be main the DJ, while I will be there to back him up during breaks. If this is successful and we can draw large crowds each week for our Freestyle sets then we would consider renting a club for a Freestyle night. DJ Fate and I will DJ the event, Joe - if you are feeling up to it, you are more than welcome to join us. This is not something that will happen over night, and we are still at least a year away from doing this.
Although, it took us almost a year - we have successfully brought Freestyle to "Knock-Outs Sports Bar" at D & Allegheny every Thursday Night for Karaoke. It may have taken us the better part of a year, but we now have a modest Freestyle following that seems to grow little by little each week.
If you really want this, I am open to hearing your suggestions and comments.
