In my on-going efforts to prove everyone that says that I do not support new Freestyle wrong, I bought not one but TWO new releases today.
The first CD is REMINISCE by Malyssa (© 2002 Rhythm Drive Records). The album’s title, of course, comes from the song that failed to live up to all of it’s hype. I WANT MY MONEY BACK! This album is a total waste of 57 minutes worth of time. The only good song on this CD out of a total 11 songs and 3 remixes (14 tracks total) is “FOREVER MORE”(complete with “Planet Rock” loop). It’s not even that the song is that good, it’s just that this album is so bad that it makes the song stand out.
Now as Freestyle Crap-Fest 2002 continues: it truly pains my soul to give Judy Torres the thumbs down…
The only reason why I bought Judy Torres’ GREATEST HITS (© 2002 Empire Music/BMG) is because she is the undisputed queen of Freestyle. I already knew the unfortunate truth about this CD – none of Judy’s classics are the original versions. Instead, all of the classic songs have been rerecorded and produced by “Collage” himself, Adam Marano. Some of these re-recorded songs are extremely painful to listen to. The first verse of the song “LOVE STORY”is out of sync with the music and sounds awful. After listening to this song I felt like I was making a meat order at the butcher shop.
While the album has many faults, Adam Marano tried hard to re-create the magic of the original songs, unfortunately it just didn’t work out quite right. A perfect example would be the new version of “MY SOUL”. The intricate keyboards from the original song are GONE, replaced by a half-assed wannabe keyboard pattern that doesn’t come close to the original song.
If anyone is considering buying either or both of these CDs, please learn from my mistake and keep your money in your pocket. These CDs aren’t good enough to even burn yourself a copy from a friend.
