kenny, as you said ,i tend to agree that some songs on the list seem to fall into the "house" category. but my point was, it all depends on who you ask. i have a few freestyle cds where songs like "yo, lil brother" are included. so it's obvious that the djs mixing those cds consider them freestyle, otherwise the songs wouldn't be on the cd. and once again, maybe "yo lil brother" was an initial form of freestyle before the style developed and changed over into the more well-known/common brand beat that we know today.

ps- remember the track listing on the new bad boy joe 4 freestyle megamix coming out soon. he has some of those same tracks on his cd.
so it's safe to say that joe and gene consider them songs freestyle.

regarding those early questionable songs we are debating- what we think freestyle is (or not)exactly, doesn't make it a fact! as chuck and a few others said, it may be that they are "borderline" songs that can cross over into more than 1 category. i'm open to the theory i mentioned above , about those early songs being the intial form of freestyle b4 changing as the years went by.
and oh, "nineteen" does have some electro funk beat that can be considered freestyle.
 
Wow.I don`t think this song is freestyle either.Chris did produce it ,and it does have dance elements to it.It just doesn`t sit in any real catergory so people slid it into freestyle.Great track, I think Chris Barbosa took early rap and mixed it with a great dance track.
 
ANOTHER LONG DEBATE! WHAT MAKES A SONG FREESTYLE? I HOPE NOBODY MAKES THIS A THREAD!YOU HAVE TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT JUDY TORRES IS WORKING FOR WKTU AND NOT HERSELF. SHE HAS A FORMAT TO FOLLOW THAT IS APPROVED BY A/R DIRECTORS THAT TARGET A SPECIFIC AGE GENDER BECAUSE THAT IS HOW STATIONS WORK TO PAY BILLS THROUGH ADVERTISEMENT. LIKE IT OR NOT, SHE PLAYS WHAT SHE IS ALLOWED TO PLAY AND IF SHE COULD THERE IS ALOT OF SONGS SHE WOULD NOT PLAY AND ALOT OF SONGS SHE WOULD PLAY.
THIS IS THE WHOLE REASON I GOT OUT OF THE RADIO THING. BACK IN THE LATE 80'S WHEN I WAS A RADIO DJ , THEY TOLD US WE CAN PLAY WHATEVER , THEN ONE DAY THEY SAID HERE IS A LIST OF WHAT WE WANT YOU TO PLAY.
I QUIT THAT WEEK AND HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE RADIO SINCE BECAUSE THIS IS NOT WHAT I AM ABOUT. IF YOU PAY ME TO DJ, THEN LET ME DO MY JOB!!!!!

The song really might not be freestyle but for that matter some would say that Shannon's Let The Music Play, or Give ME Tonight isn't freestyle either. But we have to admit these songs did come out and have a part to play in the Freestyle revolution.

So they should still be heard.

no disrespect to the legend BUT just because he touched it, doesnt mean it automatically has to be freestyle.

Again, look at the LATIN RASCALS track done with the BEASTIE BOYS. does that make that BEASTIE BOYS song "freestyle"? In most of your minds, it does BUT if you heard the song, its straight up RAP.

Look at all the music TONY MORAN has produced. Does that make all his music FREESTYLE? Come on guys........think about it.
 
DEFINITLY IT IS FREESTYLE TRACK EVERYONE WHO HAS TRULY LISTENED TO FREESTYLE FROM THE BEGINNING KNOWS THAT SONG WAS ONE OF THE FIRST FREESTYLE HIT ALL OVER NEW YORK CITY THE FUNHOUSE, ROXY,ONES,GOTHAMS WEST ,ROSELAND ETC GET IT ,GOT IT GOOD LOL!

AGAIN, just because it was featured on 1 or 2 freetyle comps doesnt make it FREESTYLE. Look at 2 W/O HATS songs which were featured on numorous freestyle comps when they were never FREESTYLE.
 
I just got off the phone with one of the great FREESTYLE MASTERS, ANTHONY A and he too said it was NOT FREESTYLE.

BTW....Anthony told me to tell CEESIL & FRANCIS that he is ashamed of you 2!!!lol!!!

yeah im gonna have to agree with kenny on what he said about tony not all his stuff is freestyle but!!......his own shit is tho

and as for this song "yo little brother" why isnt freestyle simply bcuz the dude did some rap in it i mean cmon hear the drum beat and the piano melodies in the song now if nolan wasnt rappin would it make any difference still? what about if he just did only singing on the song would u still consider it freestyle?
