one word for you

come to el parque 80. so i can show you how to play baseball. and then play basbeall since 1987 like i have. and i can show you why the yankees are in serious trouble.

do you know who i played with?? i played with the memorial tigers in 89 and 90. and 91. remember those guys. they were national champs !! litte before your time?

but maybe not to much. you might remember them. or heard of them.

look susie

ive been in baseball a long long time. and ive played only with great teams. and great players.

when your chasing a champsionship. there s alot of thing that go into it. that this team dosnt have.

like by this point in the season. i knew exaclty what every other guy was gonna do before he did it?

or by this point in the season you should be able to get people on base and hit and run squeeze.

or steel if youd like?

this team cant do any of that shit. cuase they have no feel for each other. ???????

when i was playing. wether i hated the guy or liked him. I had a feel for exactly what he was gonna do. which allowed me to do what he knew i was gonna do. thats cuase i had perfect trust in him and he in me.

thats championship baseball. when you can expect that your team mate is gonna do the same thing every time.

but thse clowns they dont know what the other is gonna do next.

and untill you get there you got no shot ! llloll

The only Yankee thats having a good year is DADDY YANKEE....Presea mami preseA...!

$200 MILLION DOLLAR payroll and these f***ers can't win a championship. Come on, The MARLINS did it with a 3rd of that payroll, that goes to show you that you don't have to spend a lot of money to win a championshipn.

I've been a fan of the yankees for the longest time, Don Mattingly was my favorite player in the late 80s and early 90s. Now it's Mr. Yankee himself, Derek Jeter. It's sad to say but I'm glad that they are not doing as good as they should be so that this stupid owner(george) realizes that having the biggest payroll in the sport does not help being over 500. I wish DJ would go to another team.

the team is doing better.

but no way they win with what they got now. they need tw starting pitchers. hard throwers. one more relief. and good back up catcher. flattery sucks.

one middle infielder.

then theyre in good shape ill take them over anybody

Yeah, I agree, but with the line up that they have, they should be outscoring everybody.

Most of the starting line up is getting paid between 10 and 20million dollars EACH. Not to mention the pitchers that are getting paid rediculous amount of money. They're just not doing what they are supposed to be doing for what they are getting paid for. It just seems that they don't care wether they win or lose as long as they are getting that FAT ASS check.

George is just as dumb and stupid as the Texas Rangers owner when the Rangers decided to pay A-Rod 25million dollars a year,(250 million dollar contract) did this owner actually think that 1 man was going to win him a championship. (dumb a$$hole)
The team ended up dead last while A-Rod was there.

The yankees starting team line up can start in a ALL STAR game, and they still can make it to 1st place. They should be undefeated at this point.

whats do you want me to tell you. i mean whatever the yankees do now. is really something that affects anyone who became a fan during the 90's. they are the ones who are suffering. in my case i suffered through the 80's. and then saw my 5 world series.

and thats it. ive been vendicated. you know what it was to go through the 80's as a yankees fan.

so i saw my 5 world series. and now i got nothing left to proove. i just watch them as a curiosity really? even as im typeing this? the yankees are playing boston and i dont got the game on. cuase like i said i spent the hole 80's watching them. bypassing dances. dates. clubs.

and finally in the 90's got my return. so now its i got nothing left to proove to anyone even me.

but if Your a derek jeter yankee era? fan. you gotta be eating your pillow cuase unlike me.

you dont know what defeat is. you dont know what 5 th place is? you dont know what it is to suck. I do ! llloll.

so you must be dyeing. me no!

me im just thinking of my 5 world series. which is where my worries for the yankees ended llllolll.

cuase i never made a bad investment in my life. i thought i did with the yankees in the 80's but the 90's prooved me wrong.

basically the yankees are for a new generation of yankee fans to worry about now.

for me there just a curiosity. thats why i can go and watch the game right now where

we are getting blown out 12 to 3. and watch it with a smile on my face. cuase i got my 5 world series lllllolll.

Well said, maybe I'm not the hardcore fan that I once was because of this whole payroll situation. Because like you said, You can watch a game w/ a smile on. So can I and it really doesn't bother me that they are not doing as good as they should.

Small would have started for the Yankees on Sunday night had Leiter not been acquired on Saturday. That was just the latest false start for Small, who had been told several times this season that he may be called up to New York.

"I wasn't disappointed that they got other people, but I was looking forward to the challenge," Small said. "I was disappointed, thinking I had a chance to get back to the big leagues, not with the moves they made. I have no control over that."

Small will fill the spot in the rotation on Wednesday, but the Yankees can skip it with an off-day next Monday. Carl Pavano, on the DL with right shoulder tendinitis, could return when the spot comes around again on July 30.

"It's better to go up and down than to never go up at all," Small said. "No matter how many times it happens, it's always exciting to get called up to the big leagues. This is where you want to be."

Center of attention: Melky Cabrera's days with the Yankees may be numbered for now, as the team will be making several roster moves in the coming days.

Bernie Williams started in center on Sunday for a second straight day, prompting speculation that Cabrera may be sent back to the Minors early this week.

"The most important thing for him is to get at-bats and play," Torre said. "Over the next couple of days, we'll probably be moving some people around."

Among those moves will be the return of Felix Rodriguez from the DL, which will likely mean a return to Triple-A for Jason Anderson. Rodriguez threw a scoreless inning for Double-A Trenton on Sunday, and he will be activated for Tuesday's game.

Brown's return could spell the end of Darrell May's career, while Bubba Crosby, who is eligible to return to the Yankees on Monday, could replace Cabrera.

"He's certainly a possibility," Torre said of Crosby. "He's proven here that he can play defense very well, and though he hasn't hit, he hasn't been asked to."

If Cabrera is sent down, Williams will likely see the bulk of the playing time in center, though Womack will play a few games to give Williams a rest.

"We certainly have to keep in mind that we need to spell [Williams] once in a while," Torre said. "Womack can do that if we decide that the kid needs to be somewhere else."

Sanchez done? Sanchez, on the DL since early June with a cervical sprain and vertigo, may not return this season, according to Cashman.

"I don't know if he's going to come back," Cashman said. "He hasn't made any progress with the disc issue, and they feel he might have damaged a nerve. If that's the case, he could be down the whole season."

With only Womack on the roster as a backup infielder, the Yankees could bring up Felix Escalona from Columbus, though Cashman said that is not likely to happen during the road trip.

Happy birthday, Joe: Torre turns 65 on Monday, and as has been his custom in recent years, he will spend the day with his brother-in-law, Jimmy, whose birthday was on Sunday.

"Other people say, 'Wow! That's a big birthday!'" Torre said. "You can celebrate it for a long time, as long as they don't count any more than one year for it."

Torre said that birthdays used to bother him, but ever since he battled cancer in 1999, he has a new perspective on the issue.

"When I was 58, I was thinking about being 60, which was really traumatic for me," Torre said. "Then I had cancer, and you realize that age is very insignificant, that every year has absolutely nothing to do with getting older. You realize how important every day, week and month is.

"I feel good, and that's how I base my age," he added. "If I don't feel good one day, I blame it on age."

Slow market: Cashman said he spent a lot of time on the phone with other GMs on Sunday, but he doesn't anticipate making any trades in the near future.

According to Cashman, many teams are simply asking too much for their players in this thin market, while others haven't decided whether they will be buyers or sellers before the July 31 trade deadline.

"I was busy [Sunday], talking, but I have nothing to report," Cashman said. "I'm not close to doing anything as of today."

On deck: The Yankees open a three-game series in Texas on Monday, as Brown returns to the mound after a month on the DL. The Rangers send Ricardo Rodriguez to the mound.
