Last November dance music’s most loyal fans packed The Docks to see Benny Benassi, Lasgo and other dance acts for what would prove to be one of Canada’s best dance lineups for 2004.What the average fan did not know was that the best dance lineup of 2004 had a very big! big! big! fake act in its mix. That’s right; one of the acts was fraudulent. People were led to believe that the Biz from Benny Benassi would be performing but in actuality the two people they had come on and perform were imposters. Fans were deceived and misled to believe that who was performing was the real Biz.
On the date in question of the show The Biz was not schedule to be anywhere near Canada or in neighboring regions. The organizers of the show obviously used The Biz as a way to cash in on the groups notoriety. This was all done at the cost of the fans, yes the paying customers. When you deliver a product to customers you are expected to produce authenticity not a knock off.
This sort of unscrupulous behavior will only taint the dance music scene here in Toronto and will lead people to believe is Toronto’s show have real acts or fake. Word of the fake Biz caught the attention of Paul Sears who is in charge of Benny Benassi’s world management and he expressed his dissatisfaction upon knowledge of this. He indicated that there was never a live act in Canada.
It is very ironic how the same individuals like the organizers and MC of the show who have been die hard activist for dance music and its survival have turned their backs and committed such an illegal, unethical and immoral act. All this done in the name of greed and making money off of unsuspecting fans and capitalize on the name of a Benny Benassi, who had not given them the right to use his name or anyone to impersonate him or his live show. This will definitely leave a sour taste in the mouths of groups wanting to perform in Toronto as it will create the impression that this city is a hub for people in the dance music business who are vultures and eager to make a dollar hard working individuals. Situations with fake acts had occurred with Nicole Brand and Zwane according to an unnamed source in the local entertainment scene here in Toronto.
If people pay money to see who is being advertised to perform then fans should get just that, not some cheap gimmick
