do u know how they judge ratings????

i know how they do it for tv....like one out of 1 million people have a nielson box on thier tv...and what they watch gets monitored...a few average american families...whatever that means...LOL

but how does radio do it...i mean when i was going to a regular college last year i saw a rating on the radio stations in our area posted in the department that has to do with that stuff...and i saw ktu was like number 4...i didnt really take it seriously cause i doubt it...but do u know how it is rated...like are there some radios with that box on it or what????? or isit by requests...let me know
 
same here vic...but ralphie and paco didnt stay to long after that...i was into rap for liek a second...but thats it...i was always the only one with the freestyle...especially for my age group...plus i was always the only white girl so i use to hear a lot of crap about taht...but i am still with my music...i didnt care how many fights i got into in highschool...i remember gettin into a huge fight because i said the sample from alliahahs i wonder if take u home was from a freestyle group...it was like i insulted that girls religon or soemthing...i even made her listen to the damn cd and she didnt believe me...oh well...lol...but u know what with all the drama going on there...i still look at it as good times...i remember when ktu first came out...there wasnt even djs...just music being played for a few weeks...wheni heard the classics being played on the radio...something that i hadnt heard in years i was so happy, u cant even believe...there was so much freestyle going on back when ktu first came out...i remember i recorded all thier mixes...then i noticed that a lot of the mixes were the same, LOL...it use to crack me up...they would be like mixing live such and such...and i would be thinking LIARS
 
yea, i noticed that too toni. it was like every four hours they'd replay the same sets. lolll. remember how many times they played "I'll be loving you"???? ughhhhhh........ loll 😛
 
Hey Johnny I have to agree with the majority, I have only listened to your show about 5 times in the past year. 11pm is kinda rough when you have to be up by 6am the next morning. I guess the only way to find out is if the mix show is featured at an earlier time and see if the poor ratings correspond to the new music being played. I refuse to believe that people don’t want to hear new music. I believe people are requesting new music but it gets depressing after a while when you don’t hear it, so you settle for the next best thing, commercially released old school freestyle because they know KTU will play it. Johnny there are thousands of old school songs like “In your Eyes” LOL!! ,“Remember the days” Full Afekt etc. How old school can you get? Yet you never hear songs like these in Judy’s show. If people would be given the opportunity to listen to these songs would they really consider them new music, old school freestyle or would they really care? A good song is a good song regardless weather is old school or new. Maybe Judy should conduct a poll on the air and ask the listeners weather they would like to hear new music or not. The bottom line is that people are not going to request it if you don’t play it. ahhh! past my bed time!
 
great post sammy...another thing is it has to be a good song...i mean put a slamin good new freestyle song and i dont think people will turn it down...now where u get them from...i have no clue...but hey its a possibility!!!!!
 
just be happy that ktu plays freestyle . atleast you get to hear it where im from which is philly they dont play freestyle on the radio so i would love to have a ktu here in philly but it will never happen i just get to hear freestyle on the net
 
thats cool i know what you are sayin but i wish the radio hear played freestyle . when i call and ask for it they say we will try and next thing you know i hear them play nelly lol philly radio is a joke
 
I have to agree with the majority of people about the cause of the dropoff in ratings being the time and not the necessarily the music. Also, how many people want to listen to 3 hours straight of freestyle? We are the die hard fans so we'll listen to it all day and all night long but most KTU listeners probably want something different after a couple of hours. Also Johhny mixes in old school and new school freestyle in his mixes so I don't think it can be attributed it to the new school freestyle. There is 1 way to prove that it is the time and not the music. Switch places - put Johnny's mix on from 9-10 and the rest from 10-12 and if you still see the drop off at 11pm, then you know it's not the new school music. I have a question - from Monday thru Thursdays (the other days that most people need to goto bed early for work), what happens to KTU's ratings on those days after 11pm. Do they also drop off after 11pm? I don't necessarily think this is a fair comparison because the freestyle show is on a weekend day but I'm still curious what happens to the ratings.
 
i doubt they will do that though...even though its a good idea...they are like we are losing ratings at 11...we dont want to lose them at 9 also...

its a good bussiness mentality but not if u are a freestyle fan or a budz fan
 
hey johnny an important question for you. who are the people that you get ratings from the people who know freestyle that remember the classic tracks or are they just people who dont know freestyle that are just tuning in for the music?
 
Johnny how can you say the ratings are worse because of the new school freestyle in your mix. the majority of your mix is old school with the exception of maybe 4 songs that are new. I know sometimes you devote half of your mix to the new school but its never an entire new school mix. so how can the ratings be blamed on the new school. Everyone I know who does listen to your mix is looking out for the new stuff. I liked toni's idea of concentrating on a few new school songs every week and see if the fans catch on. Johnny dont think I am attacking you cause I know you look out for me and my company all the time. and I am very greatful. But I dont agree that the ratings are dropping because of the new school and I also dont think we are making excuses about it being late on a sunday night. I usually record the mixes myself. Dont give up on us Johnny, You're all we have in new york keeping us new schoolers alive...... We love ya Johnny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Think Thats the Freestyle Sundays shouldn't be set by time, or hours. I Think That KTU show have New Music all throught out the night, a new song in here, and there in between the classic stuff.

Thats why You get both Crows Listening at the same time. Bring it in & out of New Skool & Old skool all through the Night!! One or two Tracks Per Hour!, or maybe more.

Oh Yay, This Year, People need to work more, The Ratings for people also came in, & the number of people working TWO Jobs has also JUMP UP with in the year!!

i find myself skippin stations in the morning from HOWARD STERN to old my boss CURTIS SLIWA on the am dial. I do listen to KTU in the morning, but not more than 60 seconds unless JUDY TORRES is doing the talking.
 
Well...if I'm not playing newer freestyle, i'm playing lesser known, rare freestyle. I admit myself, i play way too much 'unfamiliar' music from 11-midnight. I'm surprised ktu lets me ! They do mention it occasionally ..they'll say "I listened from 11-11:20 and didn't recognize 1 song"...lol. Remember, radio is about playing the "HITS"..familiar songs. Sometimes i get to caught up reading this website and thinking everyone wants to hear what the hardcore fan wants. Unfortunately, thats only about 15% of the listeners.

I also do believe it does have something to do with the time. But like someone else mentioned, they won't move me down too see if it was the time. Its not like i'm some superstar that they're trying to push. Plus 9-11 is doing so well, they're not gonna touch it..and i don't blame them.

Sam is also correct. Not too many people are gonna listen to freestyle for 3 hours straight. Out of the 2.5 millions listeners, how many are true enough freestyle fans to listen all 3 hrs ?? lol

I look at my sister in law as the "average fan"....she just gave me a list of songs to put on a tape for her..wanna know what songs they were ? Shaggy, "Stranger in my house', "Better off alone"...etc. lol. Oh...and she asked for a freestyle tape..."Johnny, put Spring love, dreamboy dreamgirl, where are you tonight on the tape, not that stuff you play that i never heard before"....THATS the average fan.

Well, Victor, not everybody lives on Davidson Avenue in the Bronx...lol U make it sound like every single person in the Bronx wants to hear brand new freestyle on KTU 3 times an hour...lol. If freestyle was at such a demand, we wouldn't be having these debates..believe me.For as many people that almost vomit when 'Stranger in my house" comes on..there's that many people that turn it up and start singing it.


And just to clarify..its my sis IN LAW....not true sister. If she was a true sister and a true BUDZ she wouldnt' be asking for songs so dated..believe me....LOL 😀

Oh ya...i just took another look at that list she gave me...she also asked for 'Above the clouds" by Amber and "Feels so good" by Sonique.............lol

🙂 Well I can actually make it to stay awake from 11-12 mid.! I think you do a GREAT JOB Johnny Budz on the mixes! I love my old school, but I'm always willing to listen to new stuff. Do alittle bit of both is a good idea.

I also wonder... How do they know if the ratings for your show have dropped off? HOW can they tell if we're listening? Strictly by call-ins? Or is my comp bugged lol? If you have a fan listening from a PC, how can they include that in the ratings????
 
Johnny, I record you every sunday night and even when you do the midday-at work classic mixes. I have to say that you are my # 1 best DJ! Especially from 11-12. Its cool that you play the new freestyle. Given us a taste of something new is good. Sometimes, im just not in that kind of mood to hear a classic. When you play a song im not familiar with, I like to say to myself that this is actually a good song and it should be played more often...ya know? Love you man!
