There aren't many threads about different old freestyle artists. People create polls and threads about the same freestyle artists where in fact there are sooooo many other artists that were from the era of the 80's and 90's.
So eliminating the repititious artists (whom I love dearly) like: Cynthia, Coro, TKA, George Lamond, Safire, Judy Torres, Johnny O, Stevie B., Lissette Melendez, Nayobe, Cover Girls and Lil' Suzy, (who are great artists without a doubt), can you think of those other artists that also made a difference in those days and had great songs but are sadly "forgotten"?
There are plenty of other great artists that you hardly see perform anymore because perhaps they're difficult to contact, do not sing anymore, etc....But I think that if promoters TRIED just a little more hard enough to get these artists for shows, maybe they could be successful. It may take a little more effort but I think it would be worthwhile.
I am a true fan of Lydia Lee Love..........I don't see anybody booking her for shows. Maybe she's a difficult one to get in contact with because I understand she lives in Las Vegas or somewhere like that. But SOMEONE has to have a way to contact her. Perhaps many of you view Lydia Lee Love as a "One hit wonder" but whether she is or not, I see a female with an awesome voice! A great talent that was just pushed to the side. She made a difference in the 80's and 90's also.
Why is it so difficult for ONE promoter to make a difference? Why do all promoters want the same artists to perform and yet there's never any money in this business? Never a budget? Maybe trying to put a little more effort into those "forgotten" YET "great" freestyle artists can make a difference. Maybe they can bring a crowd to an event with the maximum promotions and advertising of these artists, like never seen before.
I know I would be shocked if I saw a show that consists of: Lydia Lee Love, Joey Kidd, "& MORE", Body & Style, Baby & Keys, Yolanda Milla, Monet, Solid, Jadie, Yvonne, Peter Fontaine, Reynaldo, etc...... There are more I can't think of. Now that's a show that is different and I would go to. Why? Because I would be curious. I would want to see how they look, how they sound, and they too would bring back even more great memories of those times from back in the days. These artists were somebody too.
Look lets face it, ALL artists want to get paid for shows they perform for promoters. That's what this business is all about. IF I were an artist, I would want to also. I wouldn't want to go on stage and get nothing out of it while in the meantime, other artists and promoters gohome with something in theirs. Fans go to see Artists. Therefore, they should be compensated. 😉
Just something I wanted to express my opinion on. 🙂
Something I just want to understand.
