In NYC handling my biz!!!!
There aren't many threads about different old freestyle artists. People create polls and threads about the same freestyle artists where in fact there are sooooo many other artists that were from the era of the 80's and 90's.

So eliminating the repititious artists (whom I love dearly) like: Cynthia, Coro, TKA, George Lamond, Safire, Judy Torres, Johnny O, Stevie B., Lissette Melendez, Nayobe, Cover Girls and Lil' Suzy, (who are great artists without a doubt), can you think of those other artists that also made a difference in those days and had great songs but are sadly "forgotten"?

There are plenty of other great artists that you hardly see perform anymore because perhaps they're difficult to contact, do not sing anymore, etc....But I think that if promoters TRIED just a little more hard enough to get these artists for shows, maybe they could be successful. It may take a little more effort but I think it would be worthwhile.

I am a true fan of Lydia Lee Love..........I don't see anybody booking her for shows. Maybe she's a difficult one to get in contact with because I understand she lives in Las Vegas or somewhere like that. But SOMEONE has to have a way to contact her. Perhaps many of you view Lydia Lee Love as a "One hit wonder" but whether she is or not, I see a female with an awesome voice! A great talent that was just pushed to the side. She made a difference in the 80's and 90's also.

Why is it so difficult for ONE promoter to make a difference? Why do all promoters want the same artists to perform and yet there's never any money in this business? Never a budget? Maybe trying to put a little more effort into those "forgotten" YET "great" freestyle artists can make a difference. Maybe they can bring a crowd to an event with the maximum promotions and advertising of these artists, like never seen before.

I know I would be shocked if I saw a show that consists of: Lydia Lee Love, Joey Kidd, "& MORE", Body & Style, Baby & Keys, Yolanda Milla, Monet, Solid, Jadie, Yvonne, Peter Fontaine, Reynaldo, etc...... There are more I can't think of. Now that's a show that is different and I would go to. Why? Because I would be curious. I would want to see how they look, how they sound, and they too would bring back even more great memories of those times from back in the days. These artists were somebody too.

Look lets face it, ALL artists want to get paid for shows they perform for promoters. That's what this business is all about. IF I were an artist, I would want to also. I wouldn't want to go on stage and get nothing out of it while in the meantime, other artists and promoters gohome with something in theirs. Fans go to see Artists. Therefore, they should be compensated. 😉

Just something I wanted to express my opinion on. 🙂

Something I just want to understand.

Hey Boop, nice thread!!!! Hey, I booked Joey KIDD!!! The reason why we are seeing the same artists, is that those are the ones that have always been out there performing and have "Name Recognition", people hear the name of the artist and they know what they sing. Most people that are not hardcore freestyle fans, couldn't name Solid or Jadie songs...George is a great example, he keeps working because he has kept himself out there. Between his TKA involvement, his Latin projects, he has kept his name visible, plus, he's a damn good performer...I do agree with most of what you said...You brought up real good points!

Okay Jadie and Solid may not come to mind right away to some people or perhaps never come to mind but what's the excuse with "& MORE", Lydia Lee Love, Peter Fontaine and Denise Lopez? People know their songs. People know "You'll Never Find Another Love", "Don't Take Your Love Away", etc.... They are popular songs.

$ $ $

The sad reality is money. There is a high risk in booking unknown artists.I don't think that any promoters really care what the people want but how much they can make from it.It's a business.Being a hardcore old schooler there are so many artists I would like to see perform.Arlene,Tina B,Tolga,NV,Reinaldo and so on. Especially those from Metropolitan which those who know can tell you put out hit after hit as well.Thankfully I have met a few of them but have only seen Cheree' perform.I play the lotto weekly so if I win, so will the fans!!!

Hope you win that lotto Jack! :heee This way we will see a different show!

And yes it's all about the money. I too, would do something different if I had the money. Just to see. Just out of curiousity.

This biz, is a "follow the leader" where all promoters book the same artists.

By all means, book a show advertising George Lamond, and then book all the other "forgotten" artists in the same show with George. Once the crowd hears the songs these artists sing, they will say to themselves, "oh sh*t, I know that song. That's who sings it? That song was the sh*t!" Believe me you get reactions like that. I'm a fan! I know!

Now let's take "& MORE" as an example, people know his song. I see it over and over when he sings, the fans singing every single word to "You'll Never Find Another Love" and "Materialistic Girl". He's done plenty of "promo" shows because he's soooooo "HUMBLE" and soooo "NICE". Those are the exact words used by so many promoters. OKay, he is, but after you see he put on such a great performance, got the crowd hyped up, he wasn't compensated for it. There are no excuses.

Lydia Lee Love is another one.........Everybody knows "Don't Take Your Love Away".........She performed with "& MORE" in Club DNA and she was known!

I need to promote! I need to have the money to make a difference. I wouldn't be afraid to try it.

I'm not being a b*tch peeps......just REALLY trying to make sense of the whole thing and get some understanding. 😉

Betty Boop- I have posted enough on this topic in the past that I can only emphasize on it so much.

I feel the same way you do. We focus, and continue to focus on the same 10 ten artists' as if there were't any other artists' before or after them.

I think a lot of it has to do with favoritism within the industry itself. Many artist's that we heard from a lot in the past have completely vanished from sight and sound. Why? Possibly neglect. Neglect from fans and industry personnel. However, this is solely my perception on the situation.

Like I said, I've posted numerous times on this situation and someday someone will take notice. But until then, we will continue to have the same line-ups for every concert, the same over-exaggerated "King" and "Queen" polls, etc.

It's come to the point that I hardly attend any more Freestyle events because I've already seen the artist's 15 times before. But I've attended the ones with Lydia Lee Love, Rios Sisters, Safire, Noel, Lil' Suzy, Fascination, etc. (I think you get my point).

Just think, in a span of almost 20 years worth of artists, why do we still focus on the same 10? What's wrong with this picture?

And Betty, by the way, excellent post. I always felt like I was the only one putting it out there.
