Welllll.......I'm sure that you all know that I am more directed to the newschool\progressive style of freestyle. I do love to hear some of the oldschool songs now and then, but I just think that I like all of the new sounds and patterns and creativity that can be shown through progressive. Granted not every progressive track is great, just like not every track that was released in 1987 is great. There were good ones and there were bad ones just like we have these days. Anyway, I love the oldschool for what it was.....but I love the newschool for what it could become! 😉 Peace.

I'd have to agree. i have the freestyle freshkids also and the vocals on it weren't that good. On the Noland song you can hear him crack all through the song, it was amazing and on Love on the Run alot of straining and cracking. I'm sure alot of them people on that record weren't singers. i heard nobody got paid a cent on that freshkids cd. Also i heard that Nina and a couple of others sued the Santana Twins. But i like the Jazmine song and the Tomi song.

Yep.. Noland can't sing, he sounds too funny on that song "Angel Eyes"..But the one that really made me laugh was Rosario - "Runaway" I didn't really know if it was a joke or somethin..sounded like he was making fun of Freestyle.
Luis, you said that you are doing the New Old School, all I have to say is... Good Singers, Background Vocals, Lots of Harmonies and melodies, Hard Hittin Beats, and EDITS!! that's how I like my Freestyle..

Well I am from Canada and I voted for old school! I like some of the new stuff, but if I had to choose it would be old skool hands down. There's nothing like the original and classic freestyle. It's called OLD skool because not only is it old, if anyone was smart enough to listen it also SKOOL's you on what freestyle is and should sound like!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE STEVIE B!!!!

I agree

I agree that fsfk could have been better. But we had a time constraint and we were trying to get it done. It was also our first effort in a new studio. We did not have our own studio back then. Even when we did susan santiago's album we had to use someone else's studio. Some of the singers were not great singers but they were not bad singers. I dont recall noland cracking on the song. Cracking is a term used when the singer acutally cracks. Maybe he was flat on some parts but I dont recall putting a cd out with cracking vocals. I will revisit the cd to listen for cracking vocals as the above posts have mentioned. We worked with the artist from the buffalo area because there were no other producers working with them. We do not charge our artist anything upfront for production and we did not make any money on the cd. We put a hell of alot of time into the cd and we did not break even. As far the sueing comment, no one sued us or the label. In fact we continue to work with some of the singers and everyone was happy with getting the opportunity to work on a cd that came out. It was good for the community. We felt good about making the cd.
I do however feel that it was a good first cd. Compared to what was coming out at the time it was good. Since then we have made some significant improvements. We have our own studio and our engineering abilities have exceled. We have done numerous projects in the hip hop arena on the engineering tip. Just to let a few of you know we did most of our engineering stuff after the fsfk cd, so we learned alot. We go under a different name in hip hop, but we have worked with some top artist (masta ace, inspecta deck, core mega, ill hill billies, onyx, kool g rap, jay o felony, q tip, large professor, tragedy, fam lee, and we were jam master jays engineers for a studio he had in queens where we worked exclusively for about 2 years. And these are just a few of the people we worked with )
Our recent freestyle cd's, Myrna li " Still I cry" and Jazmine "Justify" were better and we continue to improve. We also had multiple edits on both. We have recieved good feedback on both and jazmine was even on jon b's best songs of 2000. We hope to continue to improve and work on our mixing skills. We are planning on releasing the fsfk vol 2 within the next couple of months and it is sounding good. We just finished 6 songs on a Nick Colon album and they all sound tight. Our website will be up and running soon and we will have sound clips for everyone to listen to. We plan on making this a good year for us, unlike the past several where we have had to count on others to do things for us. So look out for our songs and we welcome the crits. Thank you.......luis

Progressive

I am becoming more and more of a Progressive fan. I agree with Linus in that the Progressive style of New School has a greater potential for success, because by nature, it's newer, fresher, more experimental, and therefore, more outrageous. Granted there have been many wonderfully-produced Old School music, times and technology have changed. Other forms of dance music use an arsenal of new synthesizers and drum kits, while some New School Freestyle is just trying to copy an old style with outdated instruments.

What would've happened to Freestyle if Carlos Berrios didn't come up with that "New School" sound with the funky beats on "Together Forever" or "Temptation". I think Freestyle would have lost a lot more ground. Those beats kept Freestyle alive a little longer, as other producers started using Hip Hop and Breakbeat samples in their music. That was one evoluationary change. Tony Garcia introduced another with the (now overused) Planet Rock / Funky Melody beats. And then the Progressive style became the next evolutionary step after that. Progressive is the current style until we move on to the next one. As far as the Classic style, I don't think it has the potential of hitting Dance or Pop charts that the Progressive style does.

Thank you alot for the reply Luis, I'm looking forward to hear the next Freestyle Fresh Kids CD, I hope you include some edits and those banging original beats.
About the Progressive Freestyle.. I'm not feeling it...at all.
Would NEVER buy it or listen to it..
Oh I forgot, there's one "progressive" Freestyle song I like, Paradigm feat Stephanie Bennet - Back For My Love.. That one is ok.
