You're out of my life,
it was over long ago.
Lately though,
I can't get you out of my mind.
You hurt me so bad,
even broke my heart in two.
Yet so many nights I lied awake,
crying over how you treated me,
while continuously asking why.
Even now I'm still lying awake,
thinking of how I miss you
and the love we once shared.
How did things go wrong?
You promised me everything,
including the question you asked
while down on bended knee.
Then all of a sudden,
you got up and walked away.
What happened to telling me
you loved me and that we were meant to be?
I need to stop this self torture,
accept the fact we're through.
Only that's easier said than done.
I wonder if you think of me,
or if you even miss me.
Are you with someone new?
If so,
what does she have that I didn't?
Do you think about coming back to me,
giving us a second chance?
Then again, maybe I'm better off not knowing.
I doubt any answer will make me happy.
Besides, I think this is a phase,
made worse by this time of year.
In time these feelings and questions
will subside and escape my mind completely,
leaving me free and unburdened.
After all,
you chose to end things
and it is your loss.
There is no more us,
nor will they ever be again,
which, believe it or not,
is actually for the best.
