by 88 & 89, the popular singers (safire, sweet sensation, george lamond, cover girls) were already established in the club scene & were already signed on to major labels & thats when they really crossed over. during those 2 years these artist really hit hard with their hit music, videos,etc...
they had major support from their record labels, radio stations, promotion & they touring with major acts.
Ill say 1986, when the cover girs and groups like that first broke out
and 1988 when all hell brke loose....92 is a runner up cause well just because lol😉
i'd say 87 & 88
i remember in 87 all you heard on the radio(power 96) was freestyle, i mean every single song was a freestyle song weather is was miami or ny style, freestyle was very much alive and kicking in miami. and 88 was even a stronger year, sooo many shows,so many great jamz, and the clubs were jumpin' with freestyle. that was my favorite year!
in 1989 freestyle was still huge with some of the big artist signed to major labels but i noticed people and a lot of my friends were getting over it a little and moving to another form of dance....
so to me 87 & 88 were the years!

well for freestyle, it'd have to be "89" and "90". it was the shining years for george lamond, tka's- louder than love/ you are the one, lissette melendez- together forever, noel- the question, nyasia, linear- sending all my love, coro- where are you tonight, tiana- first true love, tony moran- dance with me etc.....
Definitely the years from 1987 to 1989. No questions about it. Freestyle ruled the airwaves and dance music charts back then when it came to dance music.
