THE TRUE REASON WHY FREESTYLE MUSIC CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP WAS DUE TO THE FACT OF DECREASING RECORD SELLS.

AT ONE POINT EVERYTHING IN FREESTYLE MUSIC SOUNDED THE SAME AND DUE TO THAT MAIN FACTOR MANY OF US WEREN'T BUYING, LISTENING, SUPPPORTING, DANCING OR REQUESTING NEW FREESTYLE MUSIC.

WE STARTED TO BUY, LISTEN, SUPPORT, REQUEST AND DANCE TO OTHER TYPES OF MUSIC MAINLY HIGH ENERGY DANCE, UNDERGROUND HOUSE, OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE, ALTERNATIVE, RAP, HIP-HIP, R&B, LATIN AND INDUSTRIAL MUSIC, ETC.

THAT'S WHY MANY OF THE MAJOR LABELS AND INDEPENDENT FREESTYLE RECORD LABELS ARE NO LONGER AROUND OR IF THEY ARE THEY ARE NOT RELEASING THAT MUCH NEW FREESTYLE MUSIC TO THE PUBLIC.

WHICH OF COURSE STOPPED MANY NEW AND OLD SCHOOL RECORDING ARTISTS, SONG WRITERS, RECORD PRODUCERS, REMIXERS, EDITORS, STREET, RADIO AND CLUB DJ'S AND PROMOTERS FROM DEPENDING ON FREESTYLE MUSIC AS A SOURCE OF INCOME.

SO WE ALL HAD TO PAY RENT, MORTGAGES, CAR PAYMENTS, BILLS AND PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE, ETC.

SO WE WERE ALL FORCED TO MOVE ON TO OTHER FORMS, TYPES OR STYLES OF MUSIC.

SO IF A CERTAIN STYLE OF MUSIC IS NOT SELLING, BEING SUPPORTED, REQUESTED DANCED OR LISTENED TO AND RECORDS LABELS ARE NOT RELEASING IT THEN RADIO STATIONS HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PURSUE AND PLAY THE STYLE OF MUSIC THAT IS BEING BROUGHT, DANCED OR LISTENED TO, SUPPORTED OR REQUESTED BY AND OFFERED TO THE PUBLIC.

IT'S A SHAME BUT IN SO MANY WAYS WE ARE ALL (INCLUDING MYSELF) TO BLAME TO SOME DEGREE FOR THE DOWN FALL OF FREESTYLE MUSIC...

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU GIVE A FREESTYLE CD TO ANYONE AS A CHRISTMAS, VALENTINE'S DAY, ANNIVERSARY OR BIRTHDAY GIFT?

FREESTYLE MUSIC BUSTED OUT ON THE SCENE BECAUSE RADIO STATIONS AT ONE POINT JUST COULDN'T INGORE THE AMOUNT OF SUPPORT, RECORD SELLS AND REQUESTS IT WAS GENERATING PLUS THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE LISTENING TO IT.

BUT SADLY ENOUGH AT A CERTAIN POINT IN TIME THE RADIO STATIONS JUST COULDN'T IGNORE THE DECREASING NUMBER OF SELLS, SUPPORTERS, REQUESTS AND PEOPLE LISTENING TO IT EITHER.

AND THEN CAME THE COMMERCIAL DEATH OF FREESTYLE MUSIC.

I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS LEFT STANDING THERE WITH MY OWN FREESTYLE RECORD LABEL...

MUCH RESPECT AND LOVE TO ALL THAT HAVE ALWAYS CREATED, SUPPORTED, BELIEVED IN, BROUGHT, DANCED TO, LISTENED, REQUESTED AND TREASURED FREESTYLE MUSIC!!!

AND LIKE MY GOOD FRIEND SAM K, THE ARABIAN KNIGHT ALWAYS SAYS:

"MANNERS OPEN DOORS THAT POSITION, MONEY AND FAME CANNOT"

PEACE!!!

Damm Nelson I could not put it in any other words. What you said was deep and true!!

Much Respect
😎

Hey Nelson. Thanks for quoting me. I can't take complete credit for the quote. I heard a version of it somewhere and added to it. One other thing. Didn't you tell me a story about George Lamond and Columbia/Sony about them wanting to sign him but they couldn't? Could you fill everybody in on that and how that affected the future of freestyle at the time?

Nelson, what words. I must admit as much of a freestyle nut that I am, I have never conisdered giving freestyle cd's as gifts. Shame on me..lol

NELSON I ALWAYS LOVED FREESTYLE SINCE I FIRST HEARD IT IT BECAME SECOND NATURE TO ME AND I TRY TO SUPPORT IT AS BEST AS I CAN I GUESS I WENT WITH THE FLOW OF EVERYONE ELSE AND I GOT INTO OTHER STUFF AND IT SEEMED LIKE VERYONE ELSE STOPPED LIKING IT ALL TOGETHER BUT NOT ME I WAS ALWAYS INTO IT AND I STILL AM AND WHEN I SPEAK ABOUT IT EVERYONE SAYS YOU LISTEN TO THAT ITS SOOO OLD BUT I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS I WILL ALWAYS LOVE FREESTYLE IT HAS A MEANING TO ME THAT I HOLD DEAR TO MY HEART AND I WILL ALWAYS DEFEND FREESTYLE YESTERDAY,TODAY,TOMORROW,AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

worddddd

Nelson you got it the whole reason for freestyle's downfall locked..
Its all about the dollars the music business. Noone really cares about talent, etc..just what appeals to suburbanized youth..
Look at Disco, it never got any respect until it was no more..
It's a vicious cycle, sort of along the lines as u dont know whatcha got till its gone...but just remember..most of us witnessed Freestyle in its prime, its true shining prime, before mix shows, before websites, in sweaty clubs until wee hours of the morning as guys like glenn fricia etc ( REMEMBER EMERALD CITY..LMAO..U R GETTING OLDDDDDD IF YA DO>>WINK WINK)
took records by "unknowns" future KINGS AND QUEENS as JUDY TORESS, GEORGE LAMOND, JOHNNY O and made us dance then, just as guys devoted to the music as johnny budz, who care enough to let us relive our youth or have new jacks try and witness what we did, by bringing these same records back nearly a decade and a half or so later...as they say..AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING!
GOD BLESS THE OLD SCH00L!!

SURE SAM!!!

EXCELLENT POINT SAM,

GEORGE LAMOND WAS CONSIDERED THE LAST PIONEER FREESTYLE RECORDING ARTIST OF THE FREESTYLE MUSIC FRONTIER TO MANY RADIO STATIONS, STREET, RADIO , CLUBS DJ'S AND PROMOTERS, AS WELL AS TO MAJOR AND INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS.

THE SURVIVAL OF FREESTYLE MUSIC WAS SOLELY GOING TO COME DOWN TO THE SURVIVAL OF GEORGE LAMOND AS A MAJOR LABEL FREESTYLE RECORDING ARTIST.

I HAD MANY RECORD LABELS TELL ME THAT THEY WANTED ME TO WRITE, PRODUCE, MIX OR EDIT SOME FREESTYLE SONGS FOR THEM.

BUT THAT THEY FIRST WANTED TO SEE THE OUTCOME OF GEORGE LAMOND'S CAREER AS A MAJOR LABEL FREESTYLE RECORDING ARTIST BEFORE THEY TOTALLY COMMITTED THEMSELVES AS A RECORD LABEL TO THE FREESTYLE PROJECTS THEY WANTED ME TO WORK ON.

SO IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF IMPACT IT HAD ON THOSE PROJECTS AND THE FUTURE OF FREESTYLE MUSIC WHEN HE DIDN'T SELL THAT MANY VINYL RECORDS, CDS OR CASSETTES.

AND WHEN HE WAS RELEASED FROM HIS COLUMBIA/SONY RECORDING ARTIST CONTRACT.

THAT TRULY MARKED THE END OF FREESTYLE MUSIC TO EVERYONE BEHIND THE FREESTYLE MUSICAL SCENE AND MOVEMENT.

FROM THE MUSICAL EXECUTIVES TO ALL OTHER FREESTYLE RECORDING ARTISTS - IT WAS OVER!!!

COLUMBIA/SONY DIDN'T WANT TO LET GEORGE LAMOND GO BUT ONCE AGAIN DUE TO POOR RECORD SELLS THEY HAD NO CHOICE.

BUT GEORGE LAMOND HAS BEEN MUSICALLY BLESSED SO HE'LL ALWAYS HAVE ANOTHER RECORDING DEAL OR MUSICAL PROJECT WAITING FOR HIM AROUND THE CORNER...

I always give freestyle music to my family and friends as presents instead of other music, clothes and stuf.I suggest if you can aford it give a movie and freestyle cd as a present, give a pefume and a freestyle cd as a present, give a r&b and freestyle cd as apresent, give a latin music cd and a freestyle cd as a present,or for no reason give a freestyle cd as a present, call radio stations that play freestyle or dance music and request both new and old school freestyle records, email every radio station you listen to play freestyle, send pictures and magazines of freestyle artists to your friends, send them copies of your freestyle music videos and send them pictures ofyou and the young people at freestyle concerts, give these presents to young adults and teenagers especially Latinos, biracial people, blacks, whites and asians, give them to your girlfriends and boyfriends, give the music to Christians, give the music to guys, give the music to girls, and to your family and best friends,it might take you years to do this but it works it converts people to freestyle fans,it has worked for me because all my family and friends love freestyle! If you can't afford to buy new music wich i recommend to do this,do some of this instead give used and old freestyle music to those you love or pass it on to your friends, they will apreciate it just as much but if you get a chance on a special occasion buy them a new cd or casette it will make them feel special.Make them free mix compact discs, burn them some mix cd's you made and dedicate songs to them, dedicate freestyle songs to hem and try to show them cool looking and good looking freestyle artists like CYNTHIA,TKA,GEORGE LAMOND,CORO,LATIN RASCALS,CLEAR TOUCH,LIL SUZY.DIAMANTE,NYASIA AND LATIN NATION etc.Show them that freestyle has Latinos, whites, blacks and cool young talented artists, talk about the music to your friends, dedicate it to them on the radio,or make them a mix casette of the music and dedicate it to them, record the ktu show with Judy Torres and send it to them, and talk about freestyle to them, don't be ashamed, promote Latino music culture or your own culture, make freestyle a italian thing, make freestyle a black thing, make freestyle a filipino thing, make freestyle a latino thing just make it hip,let them know that freestyle is positive and make it a Christian thing wich it is to christians, most of you just buy yourself a copy, request the music, email chat about it and definetly always listen to but for those that can do more please help!LET'S TAKE BACK THE MUSIC! YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!PUT FREESTYLE BACK ON THE CHARTS!GOD Bless,Omar 🙂

NELSON

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE SAID ABOUT THE DOWNFALL. BUT IS IT RIGHT TO SAY THAT IT ALL CAME DOWN TO AN INDIVIDUAL (GEORGE)? IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE TO MAKE A SUCCESFUL CAREER. LABELS, PRODUCERS, MANAGERS, ETC...

I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU'RE WRONG B/C GEORGE WAS AND WILL PROBABLY ALWAYS BE THE PIONEER FS ARTIST.

AS A HUGE FAN ALWAYS ON THE FS SCENE, IT HURT ME DEEPLY, AS IT DID FOR OTHERS, WHEN THE FS SCENE FELL OFF COMMERCIALLY. BUT, IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO HEAR HOW MUCH OF THE FAULT BELONG TO THE ARTIST'S MANAGERS AND PRODUCERS. NOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM THE LACK OF THE LABELS AND RADIO SUPPORT. I DONT WANT TO THROW OUT NAMES, BUT ALL TRUE FANS SHOULD KNOW HOW THE MANAGERS AND PRODUCERS AND LABELS WERE GETTING GREEDY W/ THE MONEY AND STARDOM THAT THEY FELT THEY COULD REPLACE THE TRUE TALENTED ARTIST WITH WEAK VOICES AND POOR PRODUCTIONS.

I'VE HEARD ABOUT HOW MANAGERS AND PRODUCERS WERE OUT THERE TRYING TO BLOW UP THEIR NAMES INSTEAD OF THE TRUE FS VOCALISTS/ARTISTS,ETC... TODAY, IN THE HIP HOP SCENE, YOU DONT HERE ABOUT HOW THE PRODUCER, INSTEAD YOU HEAR ABOUT THE RAPPER/ARTIST AND THEN YOU HEAR ABOUT THE PRODUCER(S) ON THE PROJECT.

EXCELLENT POINT ER THE FS CHILD!!!

AS YOU SO EXCELLENTLY QUOTED AND POINTED OUT IT'S A SHAME THAT SO MANY PEOPLE SHORT CHANGED FREESTYLE MUSIC TO MAKE THEMSELVES SOME MONEY...

THAT WAS ALSO SUCH A MAJOR POINT IN THE DOWN FALL OF FREESTYLE MUSIC...

AS FOR RAP MUSIC MANY OF THE RAPPERS COME UP WITH THE CONCEPTS AND THE PRODUCERS PUT IT TOGETHER FOR THEM...

SO THE RAPPER HAS MORE INVOLVEMENT IN AND CONTROL OF THE MUSICAL PROJECTS THAN FREESTYLE RECORDING ARTISTS HAD...

AND DEFINITELY GEORGE LAMOND WAS THE LAST HOPE FOR FREESTYLE MUSIC...

WHEN RADIO STATIONS, THE MAJOR AND INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS DIDN'T SEE THE EXPECTED RECORD SELLS ON THE GEORGE LAMOND FREESTYLE MUSICAL PROJECT THEY JUST TOTALLY TURNED THEIR BACKS AND SHUT ALL DOORS ON ALL OTHER FREESTYLE EXECUTIVES, SONGWRITERS, PRODUCERS, REMIXERS, EDITORS, RECORDING ARTISTS, DJ'S AND PROMOTERS...

SO THE FREESTYLE EXCUTIVES, SONGWRITERS, PRODUCERS, REMIXERS, EDITORS, RECORDING ARTISTS, DJ'S AND PROMOTERS HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO MOVE ON TO OTHER FORMATS, TYPES OR STYLES OF MUSIC...

well, the last time I gave a freestyle CD as a gift was actually this past christmas 😉

But, thats off topic

*muah* for Nelson

This Is For Nelsonffwd And Every1 Who Read The Post!!!

This Is A Reply...But I Decided 2 Make A New Thread Because Alot Of People Replied To The Other...so I Wanted 2 Make Sure This Gets Read.
Anyways, Its Like This.
NELSON...What U Said Is What Everyone Knows And Thinks What Killed Freestyle.
Freestyle Died Yes Because Of Its Sales. And WHY? People Never Stopped Listening To Freestyle. You Know How Many Pissed Off People there Were When HOT 97 *NYC* Turned To Hip-Hop?
The Reason Why Freestyle Died Is Because Of $$$ Not Being Given 2 The Artists. They Were Poorly Promoted And Never branched Out...Except For few Like SWEET SENSATION * SPRITE COMMERCIAL * George Lamond * COCA COLA Commercial * And So Forth.
Back Then Producers And Label Exec's Didn't Have The Technology Nor Cared 2 Keep Record Of Who Should Get Paied What And So On. Label Exec's Were All Greddy People Who Just Wanted 2 Make Thier Money And Bounce. Im Not Speaking Towards U Or Anyone Im Speaking in General And I Do Not Intend On Offending Anyone But This Is the Truth. I Can't Speak For U Nelson Cuz I Dont Know U Personally. But Im Sure You Know The Deal With MICMAC....METROPOLITAN....And So On.
NELSON...Im Sure U Remember The MOVIE that Was STRIPPED From VIDEO STORES That U Cannot Find Now. Which Was Called EAST SIDE STORY * Not 2 Be An Error With WEST SIDE Story *
You Remember That Nelson? Ever Hear Of An Operation Called " BLUE THUNDER "? With The Feds?
Freestyle Was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ed And Doomed As Soon As It Got Its Audience. People Did Sh*t On The DL And So Forth. Why Was it Huge In NYC And The Artists Only Performing In Clubs???
Nelson...I Respect What U Say...Hopefully You Can Understand What Im Speaking.
And I Don't Want You Thinking Im just Some person Who Heard Stuff Through The Grapevine...Ive Seen Sh*t With the Music I Couldn't Believe And Heard Things That If These People On The Board Knew? They Would Bugg The Fu** Out...
But Bottom Line:
Freestyle Died Because It Wasn't Kept Well. It Had So Much Potential, Think About That People...
Im Out
And Mark My Words...I Will Bring it Back...Enough With the Shit Talkin
Peace...
