i never said freestyle WAS hip hop, i said it was one of many forms of music that came out of hip hop. freestyle is basically a combination of hip hop + disco. most of our artists are from urban areas which means urban music was definately influential to them. a lot of freestyle artists also credit a lot of disco artists as well.

nothing latin about freestyle? hmmm...about 80% of the popular artists are puerto rican, dominican, or cuban. same goes for the producers. it's not just that tho, its also in the beats. most early tracks always used a catchy latin rhythm through vocoders or synthesizers over a slightly sped up hip hop type beat. thus u have LATIN HIP-HOP.

In the "Origins of Freestyle" here is an Ironic similarity between Rap Freestyle and Freestyle music.
Back when TKA were trying to get a contract they began singing Scars of Love over Hip Hop beats at a party way before taking it to a studio
much like rappers do. Pick a fat beat and grab a mike weither your're singing or rappin it's freestyle!

I had to say this

Angel baby I know how you eel, believe me. I have been to many shows and everybody that here some say I'm a freestyle artists the first thing they ask is: "Do you Rap", by the way i'm dress hello😱 Can't you see i'm not in my rapping clothes. I think it needs a name changing in oder to get any where and getting the respect that we deserve. I love it when it used to be call Latin hiphop, Club Music, and if I let anybody know in my town that i'm a club singer they know is freestyle. I never like it the name but what can we do but follow the gene. But we need to start representing harder than ever to get notice, push the radios and get better promotion on anything new that we all put out. Fans got to give the new artists and oldschool artists new music a chance. Oldschool music is cool and I love it, respected and i've learn from it, but remenber we have pleanty of oldschool music on vinyl and CD, lets give new music a chance request Safire, Johnny O, George Lamond, TKA, Judy Torres, Noel, Cynthia's new song, and request Nick Colon, JL, Angel mena, Willie Val, Artie, mines and any new artists music...show some :hearton luv to new music and leave the past in the past

1st of all, Alex/Latin Nation, its good to see U posting again! Hope your doing a bit of alright!.....now then....

...There Is Nothing HipHop About Freestyle. Maybe In A Few Songs U Have A Dude Rappin Here And There...And Maybe Some Beats Sound HipHopish....

Not to russle up any feathers, but I do have to somewhat disagree with you there! A lot of Freestyle take samples from rap/hip-hop songs. One that comes to mind is Wllie V.'s One True Love Affair...the beats & then some are sampled from a Run DMC track (though I forgot which). There are many others I can't think of right now! But the hip hop element is VERY strong in Freestyle....granted not ALL freestyle, but some!

No Doubt I feel you Alex and Angelbaby. Requsting is a great step but if the poeple don't know what is out or the promotion is not there for the public to know of new stuff that's out, how are we going top get the radio to play it? I know alot of people who have come out with new music but can't get it played. I, like you Alex have just released an Album and my team is working ther ass off to get it to the right people to play it. Right now it's on rotation in Springfeild Mass. thanks to CPR, in the Ct area thanks to D.J Chino and D.J Porky. Maybe if The artist can come together and use the resorses that we all have, we can get more stations, more listeners to hear the newer stuff out. There is nothing wrong with old school, I live for that, but in order to move on we have to move on.

Latin Nation:

That's it! That's what we used to call it, it was "club music" or "hip-house". I think sticking with one of those would've been less confusing. But I do kind of like the name "freestyle".

Putana:

I don't know what Willie V. used but TKA's "Maria" definately used one of their tracks (can't remember which one though!). Also, "Please Don't Go" (Nayobe) sounded like a sped up variation of Run-DMC's "Sucker MC's", though I don't think it was directly sampled.

Hey

Thanx Putana I've been ok, well as for the topic Tarp your right or they will think your a rapper from PR..lol...We need to work harder thats all, The song ya talking about from Run DMC is "Peter Piper". Tka used it too, also Willie Val used for No Matter what the song "Treatem Right" by Chubb Rock, I used the style of Slick Rick "Mona Lisa" for my song Eres Mi Vida, so all use elements for everything breaks here and there. But we have to Promote better the artists, the label and get the shows where they should be, do Press Kits, and qork hard for the artists as well have the artists work hard for the fans. And maybe then we can gets some respect and get quality...just a thought 😉 :stoned well gotta run

I must say I'm pretty sure that the word "Freestyle" was used in hiphop before Freestyle even knew it was "Freestyle" if that makes any sense. You shouldn't get mad cause someone thinks that your refering to hip hop just cause you tell them you like freestyle. Freestyle has gone underground... not everybody knows what it is.

Rap music! like M&M,(i know
thats not how u spell, just thought it would be shorter)
If you wanted it to be shorter then why did you go into explaining why you shortened it? LOL LOL LOL. Anyway there is no need to stress it angelbaby. Like Kenny Guido said it was probably some little kid that said that so don't worry about it. Not everybody is going to know what freestyle music is. Personally I like the fact that not everybody knows what freestyle is. Thats what makes us different and unique.
