What makes you brown?
Is it the tortillas you smell every time walking into Grandma’s house? Or is it the quinceria that every little girl looks forward to.
What makes you brown?
Is it the dark lipstick and feathered hair worn back in the day with hip huggers?
What makes you brown?
Listening to cambia’s, sitting in the backyard chilling with friends with aroma of fajitas on the grill.
The different sayings that are said when greeting one another such as “Que Onda!” or the times when reuniting with family and they are saying how big you grown when in reality they just saw u last week.
What makes you brown?
Having 9 of your aunts and uncles living in the same house in a small space and still fit comfortably.
What makes you brown?
Cruising in the low-riders down the boulevard with the music loud. Seeking for a pretty girl. The girls walking in a slow pace seeing whom they can check out in their rides,
Brown is not the color of your skin but the pride you have for yourself as well as your heritage. No matter the stereotypes people seem to have we will always find a way to prove them wrong.
