I noticed in every canadian message board this topic always comes up, but I have yet to see it on an american board. It's usually one of the first things a person asks when you're just getting to know them (in Toronto at least). Is it the whole tossed salad vs. the mixed pot discussion?
 
I guess you can interpret it like that(sorry for the spelling) For me anyways i was born in Toronto, but my family is Greek and their family's were Greek and living in Canada allows us to still stay Greek (do i make sense)? Maybe it's me but I have family in the US and to me they are still family, still Greek and proud but they arn't as we are here in Canada. I mean alot (not all) but alot of my friends are Greek, i go to places where alot of Greeks go etc.

so to answer your question carlita, and i can't speak for everyone but, i guess it's something that makes us curious as to where you are from what other cultures everyone is cause we see people In canada as that "mixed salad" as you said it where all cultures are seprate but one instead of the melting pot where all cultures are one.

Do i make sense?
 
thereo you make total sense to me.......coz i for 1 am Croatian and have hung around or been introduced to american Croatians and yes they are Croatian but not like a canadian Croatian........its as if they are more americanized than anything else and the canadians are more of there background being Croatian than canadian........do i make sense there LOL
 
maybe it's just me and you making sense to each other cause it's midnight and we don't really know what we are saying to begin with.

But yah we hold our roots more then the our neighbors do, we keep our heritage not to say the US doesn't it's just Canadians are proud to say they are Greek-Canadian or Italian-Canadian there is always that dash something.

that was my whole point, Canadians are more defined by where their parents/ancestors came from, while americans are 'American' before anything else. I just find it interesting that we're more concerned about it than they are.
 
ur definately right Carlita... American is American 1st, then anything he/she wants to be... meanwhile Canadian tries to keep his/her originalheritage before Canadian.
That's what makes Canada such a unique country... I like that. Having Little Italy, having Greek Town, China Town, Ukrainian Place... it's awsome, those places are like taken from europe/asia and put here. Very very nice.

Yeah and I think we're more curious than concerned. But I find nothing wrong with that. 🙂 I like knowing where my peeps are from, u know :stoned
 
well, I meant concerned as in 'to be interested', not worried, there are other connotations
