What about reducing warp on CD's?

I have a few that were either inadvertantly scratched or were purchased (from e-bay no less) in a fair to poor condition..

Are they salvageable? Or is time to chuck em?

Not sure about CDs...But if you need tips on restoring vinyl here you go...


First and foremost try cleaning them...The old fashioned velvet brush and record cleaning solvents work perfectly. They can remove a lot the dust and dirt that has built-up of the years in the grooves. Some of the pops that you may think is a scratch can just be some dirt. If you do not have a brush and cleaning solvent, backcuing can help. Place the needle at the end of record or song and backcue (spin the record backwards) all the way to the beginning. Make sure that your needles are in good shape as worn needles can damage your vinyl, especially when backcuing. You may have to repeat this once or twice depending on the severity of the dust/dirt build-up.

As far as scratches are concerned. Most surface scratches do not affect the sound quality. If they do it is very minimal. The scratches that you should be worried about are the deep scratches that cut accross the grooves. There is only one method I have heard of, that can help with a deep srcratch. I have not personally tried this so I do not know for certain if it actually works. From what I have been told, you can repair the scratch by running a #2 pencil around the grooves that the scratch is affecting. In theory, the graphite in the pencil's lead is supposed to fill the scratch and make it playable.

Yeah once a CD is cracked I don't think there is much that can be done. 🙁

No there isnt or even if its a really deep scratch there isno hope. Take care of them when u buy them new and if u buy used be careful. Cds are very easy to scratch. But with scrath cds usually only a few songs are affected so its not a total right off...
