You have to realize that back in the late 80's and early 90's, the freestyle sound was top-of-the-line, using the latest synths and samplers. In fact a lot of it still sounds sorta fresh.

But the reason you won't see the old sound in most new recordings is because producers now have new synths, new grooveboxes, new drum machines, etc. While a producer may use some vintage equipment for classic sounds, the trend is towards more advanced synths for trance, techno, etc. If you listen to any of the modern freestyle songs/mixes (pick up Freestyle Heaven vol. 2 or 3) you will notice the blending of the progressive euro/trance sounds with freestyle beats. This makes sense because in the 80's and early 90's, freestyle had the elements of typical pop dance music in it. Why shouldn't modern freestyle have the elements of today's dancefloor music in it? That's the only way it will succeed commercially.

While I am a big fan of both the old sound AND the new, the OLD sound will never make a commercial comeback. A NEW emerging sound blending the classic freestyle melodies and rhythms with the modern dance sounds is probably the only way to go.

On a side note, as for everyone who keeps complaining about the new freestyle being produced, perhaps some people should take the initiative and learn how to do it themselves... Theres some NICE software available these days which basically knocks out the requirement of purchasing expensive equipment. All you need is a fast PC, a good sound card for sampling and a decent mic. The Freestyle world could sure use some fresh new talent!

Phillybronx - I do not support any non-Freestyle records by former Freestyle artists...

Nyasia - I understand your POV, but nobody gets into Freestyle music for the money (because there isn't any), they do it for the love of the music. I understand your desire as an artist to explore sounds other than Freestyle. Every Freestyle artist I have ever met had a day job (or 2 or 3) - Freestyle will NOT feed your family. I know the artists are in a compromising situation, but you have to do what you feel in your. Personally, I would never sell out on Freestyle (I am not calling you a sell out)...

Tarp - At home I have a Yamaha DJ-X keyboard...It is just something I use to throw ideas together with. The keyboard was designed with Dance music in mind...It has all of the current electronic sounds that are prominant in today's "Progressive Freestyle", Trance and House Music as well as Old School sounds...I refuse to believe that these producers don't have the proper equipment. I know for a fact a Freestyle compilation released back in 1997 was recorded almost entirely using a DJ-X (Razmataz - THE FREESTYLE DANCE PROGRESSION). Now all of the songs on that CD were Progressive in sound because the producer chose it to be that way, even though he had access to alot of the Old School sounds as well...I have thrown together tracks both Old School and New School/Progressive in sound using only the DJ-X. I think any producer who claims their equipment is too new and doesn't have the capability to produce the Old School sounds is making excuses for their inferior product...

as long as we got that straight.lol, I think i've been around a long time, maybe not as succesfully as some, but more than others, and it's time for something new. I respect your stand on not supporting any new genre from any freestyle artist, that your perrogative babe, and it will be expecting, and I also know not to expect your support on anything other than freestyle, that's cool too. we know where we both stand on this. But I will always be a part of cf, no matter if I choose to go else where with my music, because freestyle is where it started for me, and probably where it will end, but you never know.

How true...

Nyasia - If you venture into areas of dance music other than Freestyle, I will wish you luck, but I truly believe you still have at least one more killer, kick-ass Freestyle song left in 'ya!!!

Nyasia - You are welcome.

People have the misconception that I have some sort of master plan to destroy careers and turn things upside down...That couldn't be further from the truth...I simply state what I feel and never bite my tongue in the process. I have absolutely no reason to come at you with a harsh comment. 🙂

Anthony - You are correct - this is the first time I can ever recall everyone being in agreement with one another. Usually around here we all just agree to disagree...

Rhoq, what you said about Freestyle is 100% right and I shared the same thoughts...for most of them.

I know that you are a big Freestyle supporter. If some people don't understand what you say or can support some negative (but real) comments/opinions... it's too bad.

Francis

i agree the "old" stuff is cool, but if a freestyle artist made an album with a new kinda flava, that would be awesome too and the fans of that artist should still support them even if it isnt freestyle.

Comments and opinions is cool nothing wrong with a little critisism, but some people don't know how to honestly critisize with out having to put someone down in the process. and that is bullshit that I don't stand for, from anyone. not saying that rhoq did this here. we were

Rhoq you seem to have missed the point I was trying to make..

Simply the NEW SOUNDS sound better.. most producers use a combination of rackmount synths, modules, hardware sequencers, etc... some use high-end grooveboxes, some do all their work with VST or Reason or even Fruityloops. Regardless of what the use, it's not the inavailability of the OLD SCHOOL sounds, it's the fact that the new sounds in electronic music have taken over.

For every new freestyle song released, there is probably 100 new euro or vocal trance songs released. From my experience, people LIKE the modern freestyle sound when they hear it, its just the lack of exposure that keeps it from being as big as the other genres.

You're welcome Rhoq!😉

Naya,

I'm totally agree with you. You don't need to put somebody down to argue something. I think a public board is not the place for doin' that. If you have to rule something personal with somebody, the best manner to do so...it's to email him personally. And if you have somethin' to tell just always do it with the manner and most important politely.
But as you certainly know, too many people take things too much personal often for stupid reasons.

I just hope that you will do from time to time a Freestyle song, even if you decided to orient your career in other types of music.
Good luck Naya.:hearton

Even if I'm Old School Freestyle fan, I like to hear different kind of Freestyle or new sound in the music. But as I said many times, our music needs more real and talented producers and singers.

Peace.

Francis
