I think that if it wasn't madonna singing the song and someone who isn't established as a "POP STAR" it would definitly be considered freestyle. I think the song is great don't hate

i tell ya what...if it was a diff singer w/ a diff set of lyrics....then MAYBE, i'de consider it freestyel...but even if so....most on this site wouldnt like it cuz they are hooked on old school....IT'S A GREAT POPTRONIC song..but would be to edgy for freestylers on here..although it is 100% my type of evolution for freestyle.

i think there is some disagreement here partly because the east coast hasn't been exposed to much progressive freestyle so you have a hard time deciphering what is and isn't freestyle. if you heard more often the new progressive freestyle from artists like angelina (her first 2 albums), jossette, joceyln enriquez, damia, stephanie fastro, rosalinda and others, you would easily be able to tell how progressive freestyle differs from the madonna song. it would be much easier to tell them apart. ok the madonna song is close to freestyle but if you know your freestyle you would be able to easily tell it is not freestyle.

Lot's of freestyle songs never really used Analog Modular synths--most were done on keyboards that had sampled tones such as the Korg M1 and Roland sampled synths such as the XP50, 80's etc has. Some of the newer freestyle songs used the TB303 or Acid base line, but was still not true analog sound for many; as most Roland sampled sythns had it stocked in the sampled memory. Freestyle music started during the time when sampled synths were becoming more affordable and mainstream--i.e. the famous Roland M1.

I wouldn't call William Orbits music freestyle which he produced "Ray Of Light" cd, and some of the tracks on "Music" cd--I think someone named Mirwais produced the song "Music".

The latter and "Die Another Day" song has the same sound as Mirwais music in "Music".

I think the producer for "Die Another Day" his name is David Arnold.

These songs sound as if they are using real Analog Modular synths Nord Leads, Nova's, JP8000, etc., that not to many freestyle artists ever used in there music because it started to stray away from traditional freestyle--some started to call this new style, "Progressive Freestyle"--it's a good name for it.

Freestyle always had that popy, violin timber, planet beat, love/heartbreak lyrics. Roland, Korg sounds etc.

My view is, when music changes it's sound and feel it no longer stays what it's always been called--It births or rides a new/old genre name. If music kept evolving with the same name, you could never tell what's what--then you get debates such as this one. If all music that evolved from Disco was called, Disco, Progressive Disco, Techno Disco, Classic Disco, etc..then the genre is saturated with confusion--thus, the birth of new genre names 🙂

When you know the music, you know it--there is no debate. Do you know the difference between Funk and Disco? Can you tell when you hear it?

I personaly wouldn't call it freestyle, I would call it very good Dance music with an Acid Feel/Base line.

Ever play with the program Acid Pro? 🙂
