Cynthia, George Lamond, TKA- Puertorican!!

Kenny Freestyle- Probably Mexican

Expose- All Caucasuion except one thats hispanic. dont know where in particular.

Jocelyn Enriquez, Sharyn Maceren- Filipino

I dont know the rest but freestyle music was started by mostly us Puertoricans.

i can tell you that Lil' Suzy, Cover Girls, Corina, and some of the girls from Sweet Sensation are hispanic. I dont exactly know where though.

Lil Suzy is half Italian (father's side) and half Puerto Rican (mother's side).
The Cover Girls (original lineup), Sweet Sensation, and Corina are all Puerto Rican, I believe.

The majority are Puerto Rican for sure...

I know these are Italian though:

Tonasia
Lil Suzy (half)

Expose (1 or 2 I think)
Nocera
Soave
Dino
DTU
Dulaio Twins
Pure Pleasure (1 member I think)
Joe Zangie
Annette
Gina Lanze

Bobby Delante
Adam Marano/Coolage/TPE/1 AM/

Gioia was the Italian one from Expose. It's weird but back then I thought it was a mix of hispanic and italians that did freestyle or were into it. The kids in my school used to call it "Guido music"

That's because Italians were HUGE supporters of the music. That's why I despise people who TRY and label it Puerto Rican owned 🙄
It "belongs" to the artists and fans that supported it throughout it's years. Anyhow, that's why it was , and still is, refered to as Guido music in NY, as well as Gino music up in Canada.

I thought freestyle was ALSO represented by blacks in front and behind the scenes back in day. Todd terry, Cliviles & cole, Shannon, Full force etc....

^ Someone who actually has a clue! That's right Brit'fan. If people knew their history, they'd know that MANY cultures were invloved as to the creation of freestyle. It cannot be denied that freestyle stemed out of Disco, as well as electro funk & hip hop. Blacks and whites were mainly responsible for the creation of disco, eletro funk and hip hop. Look at freestyle's earliest producers....Tony Butler...John Robie....these are the guys who deserve thanks for freestyle's birth. They begin the whole electro/freestyle thing. The proof is on the records themselves. Anyway, I wrote about this a while back here:

http://www.clubfreestyle.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17941

My point was that MANY cultures were involved in freestyle birth and continuence. No one culture owns it.

Actually, the first freestyle song to hit the r&b charts and cross over to Europe was (You Are My) All & All by Joyce Sims, who is black.

We shouldn't put any labels on freestyle. It should be music for all to enjoy. Here's the thing though:When freestyle was at is peak 87-92 those who were at forefront meaning the singers maily were Puerto Rican or Latinos so when one would turn on the TV or go to a concert they would see who was on stage and being that all Americans live by labels,it was label as Latino music.Which is partly true..there wasnt a Puerto Rican or Latino that I didn't know who listened to freestyle then or even now if they're 25-40 yrs old. However,it wasn't only Latinos listening to it but for the most part it was the case.I live in the midwest and the only people who listed to it were Latinos so thats where it was cultivated.Italians on the East Coast were big supporters but more so in the mid 90's than its early days,Chicanos on the West Coast,Cubans in South Florida. You take thew "Latin" voice from freestyle and there is not freestyle...it's something else..thats why Italians fit right in because after all they are the original Latins from the Roman Empite etc..Let's not put labels on freestyle but lets recognize its roots and influences and how it came to be what it is today.

I agree. I'd rather not put a label on it. Afetr all, it never had a label to begin with. It's only when someone tries to label it as "theirs" that I have to speak facts, as I think I have. I was born and raised in NY; I know who listened to and supported what. Every "guido" I know listened to almost nothing but freestyle back then (here on the East Coast at least). Anyway, fu** the labeling. FREESTYLE IS FOR EVERYONE AS IT ALWAYS WAS BACK IN THE DAY.

Well dont despise me. I just happen to be very proud. I was just having fun when I stated my thought. I didnt think it was to be taken seriously. I dont in anyway claim domination over this genre. And thanks for not naming any names. 🙂
