This poem was given to me by a very nice guy!!!
Best pattern of true friends, beware;
you’ll pay to dearly for your care..
you think your tenderness secures?
my life, It must endanger yours...
For such a fool was never found
perhaps you had me on the ground..
only to have your ruins made
materials for this house of pain.
Yet when I find your passion rise
and anger sparkling in your eyes...
I think, those spirits should be spent,
for other folks that you lament.
Woman, for once you reasoned wrong;
for should my anger last to long.
By time subsiding, you may find
nothing but heartache left behind...
So when a friend in kindness tries
to show you where your errors lies...
conviction does but more incense;
perverness in your whole defense.
Truth, Judgement, Wit, give place to spite..
regardless both of wrong and right.
And what is worse, your passion bends
It’s forced against your nearest friends.
What manners, decency and pride...
have taught you from my world to hide?..
In vain; I see my friend has brought
to public light your only fault..
So woman, when you copy next
will you keep strictly to the text?..
And if these lines, your anger fires..
I will then pray the flames expire
But if they burn, and burn it must..
they’ll prove my accusation just..
From passion you may then be freed
exalt the spirits, let me be.
